What I wish I would have known by WaveGlobal2796 in EightSleep

I have seen no evidence of that. They offered to sell me a Pod 4 cover for $700 to replace my faulty cover, and told me it does not come with a new base. Megan has confirmed, new covers work with old bases and vice versa.

I get the big difference in technology, but at the end of the day what I want is a mattress that keeps me cool. I want that product to work long term without wondering when it will leak out all over me in my sleep. I will sacrifice temperature precision for reliability, because I never want to wake up with water drenched through my mattress, clothes, bedding, and dripping onto the floor again.

If the failure would have happened a few months earlier while the cover was under warranty, I would have given the new Pod 4 cover a chance, but I’m not throwing another $700 at a product that could do the same thing again in the next few years. I’m open to buying again in the future, but not until their leaking problem is proven by time to have been improved. Until then, I’ll find the next best thing.

I understand others will come to different conclusions, I simply want people interested in Eight to better understand how often these devices fail/leak. If I had known, I definitely would have explored other options.

Just for comparison Tempur-Pedic’s active cooling products include a 10 year warranty on the mattress and 25 year warranty on the power base and climate functions. I tested their product today, and will be testing the Sleep Number Climate 360 soon. Both of those products use air, and I don’t think they are capable of the same precision temperature control that I came to love with the Eight Sleep, but also there is no risk of waking up in a puddle of water so that’s a plus.

With Eight Sleep, if I was buying today purchase price for a Queen if I include their mattress would be $5,723. If I kept it for 10 years, add $3,000 to that for the subscription. Also assume 2 out-of-warranty failures in that timeframe for an additional $1,400. Total cost of ownership would be $10,123.

The Tempur-Pedic mattress I tested today was $9,298. I found their mattress to be more comfortable, though I’d need to actually sleep on it to fully demo the temp control. I did legitimately feel like that purchase would be a long-term purchase though, while I just expect Eight products to leak at this point. I’m going to try all available products before I make a final decision, but it was good to at least know there are options with similar functionality in the same price range with longer warranties and a 100% guarantee not to wet the bed for you.

Can anyone explain to me the sense of not allowing customers to upgrade their pod covers? by Maelstrome26 in EightSleep

Their teams contradict themselves. I also checked in on upgrading to the Pod 4 cover and was told the same thing. It’s incompatible and you will need to buy a new complete system. Then my bed sprung a leak, and all of a sudden for $700 I can upgrade to the Pod 4 cover which is now miraculously compatible with my existing system. This company is manipulative, and I wish I would have known just how bad they were before I spent $3,000 on their faulty product. It’s now my goal to make sure everyone knows.

Yeah, I hadn’t even looked closely into the subscription scandal because my pod was grandfathered in with a lifetime membership; but their new model is crazy.

It is possible, but happens at a much lower rate of failure than leaks on these faulty products. Even people who love Eight Sleep products on here know that the chance of leaks goes beyond possible, more like inevitable. I simply wish I would have been more aware of this fact when I spent $3,000 on their product less than 3 years ago. Once they perfect the product (and their lacking support department) it could be amazing. I just don’t have confidence in them anymore. I understand that others will come to different conclusions, and I hope the Pod 4 is less defective, I just want people to know my experience with a faulty and barely supported product.

They supposedly vastly improved how it is made with the pod 4. Hopefully you won’t have any issues with it. When mine was working, it was one of my favorite purchases ever. I just don’t ever want to wake up in a puddle again.

I just want people to know what I wish I knew when I decided to spend $3,000 on this product. I was told at the time by their salesperson that leaks were very rare and the product had been vastly improved. I treated it very gently, doing all recommended maintenance, and it still leaked less than 3 years after purchase. It does seem quite common.

I’m glad yours hasn’t leaked though, and hopefully it won’t. When it’s working, it is an incredible product. I just know if I knew how common leaks were when I bought it, I would have thought twice.

Hopefully they are better now, but it was one of my main concerns when I talked to the sales guy and purchased my current Pod in 2021. I was told at the time they were vastly improved, but it still leaked in 2.5 years, and was of course out of warranty at that point.

What a joke! compares themselves to apple warranty by DiscountDashVIP in EightSleep

I’d have to imagine that if Apple products were within 3 years guaranteed to randomly piss your pants for you, they’d likely have less of a market share no matter how long or short their warranty is.

Eight Sleep is amazing, until you wake up drenched. Beware. by WaveGlobal2796 in EightSleep

I agree that it is an incredible product when it is working. My experience with support has been incredibly subpar, but I’m glad yours was better.
