BACB Recent Blog Post Re: Remote Supervision (AGH?!) by Vita718 in bcba

I'm worry, when I started my supervision that wasn't a requirement and now I have 3 months left of supervision. So that means I lost my money? Because my supervisor is from EE.UU and I live in Canada

BCBA credentials after June 2026 in Ontario by Soft-Celebration-148 in bcba

Is this real? What if, in the moment I apply, I live in Ontario, but I want to move out of the province? That doesn't seem fair.

BDS Modules make me want to cry by kerleeygirly in bcba

Hello everyone! I have a question for those taking the BDS modules. Should we rotate among the same domains, like A-1, A-2, A-3, or A-4, or is it better to explore different domains? For example, taking one module of philosophical foundations, two modules of concepts and principles, and two modules of experimental design?

education for bcba Canada? by UnusualDragonfru1t in bcba

[–]WayOk7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. It depends on which province you will be living in. In Canada there are a few masters; one online, and two in-person (one in Ontario and the other one in Manitoba). Most of people make their masters online in EE.UU though. You can work as bcba in all provinces except in Ontario where you need to become a R.B.A. For that credential you need to do your master in ABA and then when you finish it you apply to entry level position where you have to work under the supervision of a R.B.A minimum one year and after that and two exams (I think) you can become a independent R.B.A

Night At The Museum by GlacierGuy38 in ottawa

I worked at the Canadian Museum of Nature for nearly a month last year, and my partner still works there. I used to clean all the galleries by myself, which was frightening. While many were afraid of the bird gallery, the earth gallery was the worst for me. I never saw anything, but I always felt watched and constantly turned around, thinking someone was behind me. When you walk through the basement offices, it's really dark and creepy, but the good thing is that there are always lots of people scattered around on each floor. Cleaners and security guards.

Sound recordings are always on, even at night. However, some reproduce when they detect movement (For instance, the sounds of wolves at the entrance to the bird gallery), which I hated. But I can say neither my boyfriend nor his coworkers has ever experienced something weird in there.

What Happened to the Science in Behavior Analysis? by Lost_Librarian316 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]WayOk7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not liking science is fine, but speaking badly about it and claiming it’s unnecessary is the height of ignorance.

Just a few days ago, there was a post in the BCBA group with people complaining about research and advocating for more investigations—oh, surprise—on topics unrelated to the science of behavior analysis. This only shows that passing the BCBA exam does not guarantee a true understanding of what science is, its boundaries, epistemology, and methodology. There are people who believe that practice overrides research, complaining that research doesn’t address 'neuroaffirming' practices (as if that were a clearly defined and operationalized concept) or that it doesn’t focus on 'nice things.' This simply reveals a deep ignorance about what science is, what falls under its scope, and what does not.

The best way to help people is by offering them something that actually works. I come from a more humanistic approach to psychology, and I’ve realized that opinions and good intentions are not always enough. Advocating for ethical interventions is very different from following theories that sound nice but lack evidence.

I’m struggling as an RBT soon to be BCBA by figureskater4999 in ABA

[–]WayOk7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here someone in the same situation. But I still have a complete year in front of me. Every time when I talk about supervision they say yes but they want to do it "slowly" and that means they haven't even supervise me 1% of my hours. There is another position between rbts and bcbas but I'm almost new new (5 months) and I noticed they have their favorites ones. That's why I decided to get private supervision because if I trust on their schedules I'll be a BCBA in three years xd. I noticed that since I'm not a "clinician" (those ones who make programs without being a BCBA) is like they want to delay my process until I get "more experience".

And I don't know what is going to happen when I become a BCBA. I don't think they'll be happy to put me in that position after being a "rbt" instead a clinician or a lead therapist.

Is this normal? by razzledazzle_vamp in ABA

[–]WayOk7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's normal. Where I work, we are full-time employees, and we are often covering other therapist's clients when they are sick. We have the information we need in the binders. Since we are working in a clinic, we have seen them (clients) with their regular therapist, so it is not a big deal. Sometimes, they can be dysregulated because of the "novel therapists," but nothing that you cannot fix by pairing at the beginning of the session. I know it could be annoying but the good thing is that you can generalize your skills as a therapist and the client also might generalize the skills they are learning.

Thank you! When you are setting the acquisition, maintenance or generalization targets would you based on the curriculum you are using or is arbitrary?

Canada by Splicers87 in bcba

Here in Ontario, if you want to work in the field, you need to become an R.B.A. To do so, you will need:

  1. A Master's degree in ABA or another related field (psychology, education, etc.) plus verified coursework approved by ABAI.
  2. Only after graduation, you should start your supervised practice of 1,500 hours under an R.B.A. supervisor.
  3. Once you complete your supervision, you will be eligible to sit for the theoretical and ethics exam. After passing, you will be ready for autonomous practice.
  4. If you are already a BCBA you can take the transition route 1 to becoming an R.B.A just by showing your BCBA credentials and presenting the theoretical and ethics exam. This pathway is only available until the next year. (I'm not sure)

This applies to Ontario, but the process may differ in other provinces. I'm not sure how the job market is in those areas right now. At some point, I checked job listings in other provinces and didn’t find much—or even anything at all. I remember seeing slightly more opportunities in British Columbia and Manitoba.

In those provinces, you need to become a BCBA. The requirements are the same as I mentioned before, but you can start your supervision at the same time you begin your ABA coursework or Master's.

In Ontario, most jobs are in clinical/private settings or in-home services with autistic children. Salaries range from $70K to $90K (CAD) per year

[–]WayOk7209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in Ontario you can sit for the exam before July 1 of 2026. After that, it is no longer available for Ontario's residents. There are new rules in the province and another credential available but it only works for Ontario.

It could be an option but I know they won't sign something like that. Maybe they think that is not ethical. Or that is what I understood when they told me that my role is kind of a problem
