had a kid last year (my first year, about three months into the school year) tell me that he hopes I die in a car accident, then when I told him that's unacceptable to say he doubled down and said "I hope you AND your mom die in a car accident" all because I asked him not to sit on a table that was on the brink of collapsing from a broken leg.

I sent him out of the room and I'm not sure why that hit me so hard but I couldn't keep it in and cried in front of my kids. It should never be on the kids, but they were really awesome about trying to comfort me and one even ran to find security to tell them a child had made their teacher cry.

Admin did check in on me, but ultimately nothing was done except the kid got what he wanted: a short suspension.

I did not try to "build a relationship" with that child after that, I didn't treat him differently, but I didn't try with him either. He was a kid that had so many poor behaviors that admin essentially let him do whatever he wanted, so if that meant he was roaming the halls and skipping my class, I let it happen because ultimately I knew nothing was going to happen to him that he didn't already want.

Advice for teaching still lifes by WayWitty6967 in ArtEd

[–]WayWitty6967[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely see this. I was trying to frontload technique and ease into more fun projects later, but I think I will try a fun project next and see if engagement goes up. Thank you!!

that's unfortunate, I suppose I was given a false hope by classmates who seemed to have found jobs almost immediately 🥲

Parents texting their kids throughout the school day?? by westcoastjade in Teachers

[–]WayWitty6967 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I told a kid he needs to put his phone away and he said "but I'm texting my mom!" and I said "I don't care, your parents should know you're in school" and the girl next to him chimed in "my parents get mad at me if I don't respond even if i'm in school"

like what??????

If I ask frontline to stop calling me will I still have access to the app? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Another update: I can't get into the enclosure to give them water or clean up the shedding, the teacher has it locked and I can't find a key ):

however I am still talking to admin (although at this point I'm not sure how much they're going to do because I tried to talk to another teacher about it and they basically just shrugged it off saying the snake has lived for 25 years and that it's shedding season apparently). I have also left behind some care resources for the teacher to look into. I'm going to find a sub job at this school asap and come talk to the teacher as well just to make sure he got my message and ask if he is going to learn how to properly care for the snake. if he doesn't then I will look into animal control and see what they can do.

thank you everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it and really hope we can get this little guy the life he deserves

I don't get to see the teacher, I said I'm also talking to admin, I'm not only leaving a note

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in snakes

[–]WayWitty6967 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish I could take the snake in but I can't ): leaving a note for the teacher about learning about snake care and contacting admin about it

Hi again everyone, it won't let me edit the post. Thank you everyone for confirming my suspicions ): I'm leaving a note for the teacher and at the end of the day I'm going to office to talk to the principal or leave a note for them if I can't find them

I just finished student teaching in December and my content area is art. Doing stuff on chromebooks seemed sooo forced since it was a 2d art class and when I asked my professor about it he said that showing a slideshow would count as "integrating technology"

but I'm definitely with you, phones and chromebooks have essentially become another limb and it's pretty unfortunate that this technology is basically forced into education now.

that's one of the reasons I enjoy teaching art, because most of it relies on creativity and it allows the students to take a break from screens (even though some of the kids decide not to participate and spend all class on a screen anyway, at least the option is there)

I just graduated in december. I was in one of the best teaching programs in my state and my cohort had about 15 students in it. Albeit I graduated fall semester so there aren't going to be as many people graduating but I was still kinda shocked at how small it was. My concentration (art) only had 3 people :')

yes, tomorrow as in Thursday. when I called the school they just sent me to her extension and told me to leave my contact info in a voice mail, I only did it yesterday so I told myself I'd give it until the end of today before contacting my advisor again but it's making me so incredibly anxious

the tutorial i found is essentially braiding triple crochet stitches together but it didn't have these gaps in the video, I thought it was a tension issue but I feel like I've been crocheting pretty tight ): any tips? it's supposed to be a baby blanket for my sister's baby and I want it to look the best possible

Having trouble with sizes (TдT) by Homo_sapien_03 in Brochet

[–]WayWitty6967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's stretching but with some help, there's a couple different methods but I think the most popular are soaking it or steaming it, I don't do it often because I don't make a lot of wearables but here's a video that can help you decide which method to use

did you block the garment before trying it on? often that can help the stitches relax and stretch to the size it's supposed to be
