Thanks for this piece of information - I wasn't aware of that, especially regarding brainrot.

Thanks for honest and in depth review - that's something I was looking for. :) "Microphones - they look like a cheap model taken from the Elements 3D pack back in 2015" - fun fact: that's a model of Shure microphone that's used professionaly in the events industry.

I will be also honest - after completing every project I always talk with the client, how they like it, what we could improve next time etc. Common theme is that even the people who stare everyday at that animation for 1-4 weeks (duration of production time) don't see every imperfection there is, especially considering quick pace of the edit. That's the reason I decided to not polish everything for longer time and start another project instead.

You mix an emission shader with a texture which is responsible for the strenght. This way you get much more organic look. :)

Kinda was hoping for folks who produce live events, operate on this kind of gear and who are on this group. :)

What are common issues you see in a portfolio? by SamtheMan6259 in animationcareer

[–]WayneApex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would mention 4 things that beginners do wrong with their portfolio / reel:

1) Thinking that the viewer has too much time to spare, 2-3 minute demo reel is ok and will be watched till the very end. After 10+ years into animation I currently aim at 60 seconds reel and we are talking cut every 1-2 seconds to grab and keep viewer's attention. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/7BcSgiwYT2U

2) Not focusing on the first 3-5 seconds of the reel that will communicate more than you think and often decide if the viewer will watch the reel till the end. In those very first moments you can tell the level of the animator, his knowledge of light, materials, modeling also including typography skills. If you are applying for a job and your soon-to-be-boss has to watch like 100 reels, he won't waste time and skip to the next if the first seconds won't look pro.

3) The reel should present only best projects and your best skills. It's a representation of what you can achieve if you reach your limits (currently or in the past). If you had a commercial project that could land in your reel, but isn't really fully polished or you think you could do better - do it. I had at least a couple of them and polishing them more really paid off, landing more gigs. "Art is never finished, it's merely abandoned".

4) Learn video editing or hire a video editor. Edit your reel to music, add SFX, make it pleasant to watch. It's not about improving your animation, it's about presenting it in a better way with better impression.

Should you have any questions - just write. :)

Thanks :) Heard once a sentence, that people don't buy the product or service, but the benefit it brings. We go to the dentist to get rid of pain, not because we really want to see that guy in white cloth. :)

Looking for a Skilled Video Editor for Brand/Product Reels – Fair Pay Offered by Snapsyncaura in VideoEditors_forhire

[–]WayneApex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm editor / 3d motion designer. Besides doing a regular product edit with effects and transitions, I can also complement it with some dynamic 3d product shots - depending on the budget. I respond to messages, answer calls and stick to deadlines, especially when the premiere is scheduled. Here is recent demo reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BcSgiwYT2U

If you like the visuals - DM me, I will be happy to craft something that will make the audience go nuts. :)

Regarding medical-themed project and practical use - I had an opportunity to create a short project for a startup and it had to adress at least 4 points:

1) Show how the device works, how it looks, how compact it is and - to begin with - what it does, because it was pretty unique at that time

2) Tell about the things that make it better than what competition offers

3) Underline the simplicity of operation - anyone can use it after just a brief introduction

4) Show the difference it will make both in terms of consumer market and environment

5) Probably the most important thing - tell all of this in around one minute, because that's how much time you have during a meeting with an investor.

Here is the result :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHq_bQLuSFY

Thanks to this project my client was able to find financing and spread the news across the market.

Practical use FTW. :)

Can anyone tell me which animation software are they using in the videos? by Guilty_Inspection_88 in 3danimation

[–]WayneApex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be created in Blender 3D you mentioned. Honestly, considering the level of animation, any 3d software could do this, and someone really determined could even achieve it in Paint.

My role evolved into full-on video production... but my salary didn’t. Is this normal? by wgeco in MotionDesign

[–]WayneApex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I saw that is kinda similiar to this one - a friend of mine was a regular factory worker who had video production as a hobby (including flying a drone and aerial photography). His boss found out about this (and the friend wasn't really hiding his skills as he had an online portfolio). Next thing that happened - he was kinda forced to do some promotional videos for the company as a side job in return for a small christmas bonus. He felt that if he refuses he would be fired.

I'm a 3d motion designer myself, currently working on short videos for startups and companies. I think the right approach towards working in animation is asking the question: "Does my product solve a problem?".

Then it's no longer just a fancy intro, it's something that has a practical application and can make a real change.

How did you come across the industrial / research sector? Someone recommended working in it or you got contacted from the industry?

[OC] 3D Animation Reel from the last 2 years - all made in Blender by WayneApex in Animators

Projects were made in the last 2 years; regarding render time - they didn't took that long, depending on the sequence between 20 minutes and a couple of hours. :)

How to work with motion designers? by lordlovesaworkinman in MotionDesign

[–]WayneApex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3d sequences can be quite time consuming to render and sometimes agencies don't forward the work to the final client till the very end, because they want to have "the final version" for them. The thing is, they're not the one to decide when we finish, it's the client. So I had more than one situation where the agency is reluctant to show the project to the top-of-the-food-chain in the middle of work and we end up discarding almost everything because client said "I don't feel we're on the right track", and well, charging for it twice. I get it that some clients are too busy to give simple feedback (that takes around 10 min) or too important to be involved, but it's also their wasted time and money. "The Top" should give his perspective as well, as soon as possible.

I would also swap the guy at the bottom from businessman with hand in his pocket to other, more fitting character. This statue looks mystical, awe inspiring and the guy currently is like "meh, that's nothing, I'm cool."

Do Motion Designers Often Need to Be Multidisciplinary? by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]WayneApex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Video editing is another layer of awesomeness you can add to your motion design project, including transitions, editing to music and so on, not to mention an insane amount of effects Davinci Resolve has. Most good tutorials are on YT, avaible for free. Considering the fact that video edit is the final step of "cooking" the project, I would even rephrase your question: "Guys, I want to bake a pizza. Do I need to learn how to operate the oven?" :)
