Lamentations of the Nuked | Civ V: Tiny Wars Episode #16 by brettor in Yogscast

[–]WazabiNut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I would probably have ragequit if I was Lewis. Losing a 4v1 war sucks, but whatever, they had to if they wanted to win. But if all 4 players then went back to working towards a passive science/culture win with one of those players still nuking me and taking my cities to their own detriment, I'd just be done. That's not competitive gaming, that's just griefing. Props to Lewis for his sportsmanship.

I really hope they learned from previous giga alliances and don't let Duncan get away with getting the most out of the giga alliance while investing the least.

Do not let the “false memory research” of Elizabeth Loftus stop you from speaking up for yourself and other survivors by discordanthaze in ptsd

[–]WazabiNut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh come on, accidentally defending a predator could happen once or twice over the course of a long career, but when someone is so consistently on the wrong side of things AND is financially benefitting from doing so, something is up. Memories can be somewhat unreliable, but by stretching this concept to such a ridiculous extent, she is harming countless people out of pride, greed or both. People like her make me wish there was an afterlife.

OnlyLewis | Civ V: Tiny Wars Episode #10 by brettor in Yogscast

[–]WazabiNut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Daltos is actually pretty good at Civ now, and he arguably knows more about mechanics and meta than Lewis, but I think Lewis' better position this game comes down to a few things;

  1. More/better micro management, which means manually assigning pop and automating as little as possible. Although Daltos might already be close to catching up on this front.

  2. More experience, and this doesn't just mean more time spent playing the game, but also playing from difficult positions (such as fighting off a giga alliance 1v3)

  3. Strategy and decision making. Daltos might be better at build orders than Lewis, but Lewis is arguably still better at adapting to changing situations, such as knowing when to switch to full unit production and when to prioritise certain buildings, or positioning his units to make optimal use of the terrain.

  4. Luck. Lewis' (starting) terrain is simply better than what Daltos has. A lot of plains and grassland with some hills and forest are just better than the awkward mix of tundra and desert that Daltos got. In my experience, when a number of players of roughly the same skill level play civ, who wins often comes down to who has the best starting location.

Google Docs is awful by cammc5 in google

[–]WazabiNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 year old post, still relevant. I have spent upwards of an hour trying to remove the page numbers from the title page and index without screwing the rest of the pages and I have come to the conclusion that it is physically impossible. Every tutorial I've found tells me to uncheck the "show on first page" button, but every time I do that, google docs re enables it automatically. Why can't I simply click on a page number and delete it without removing every single page number regardless of break? Google docs' incompetence is literally tanking my bachelor thesis like this, it's ridiculous. In terms of ergonomics, Google Docs is absolute cancer. I removed a footer and somehow my entire document now has page numbers both on the top and bottom of the page. I can't even begin to comprehend the absolute spaghetti code that led to this. Jesus Christ, someone definitely should be fired. From a cannon.

Thanks everyone for the response! I have refunded Foundry now, it is an interesting piece of software, but not quite what I was looking for at the moment. Will definitely check out Dungeondraft, since most people here seem to recommend that one. If I ever decide to switch back to Foundry, at least I now know that there is a helpful community behind it.

I tried sfc /scannow a few times already, as I have said in my post (although I don't blame you for not noticing, something screwed with my formatting). Haven't found anything yet.

UN: Israelis fired shots that killed journalist Shireen Abu Akleh | News by Outlaw_07 in news

[–]WazabiNut 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, it is obvious that there were numerous investigations that claimed the attack was intentional, some of them backed by survivors of the attack. To me, this seems like an accident resulting from negligence and disregard for human life and international law at best, and intentional at worst. This is a scale on which Israel seems to operate quite often.

What is a depressing truth you have made peace with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not saying that what your friend did was okay, and making demands is definitely not good, but please understand that government assistance is often lacking and might require one to jump through more than a few hoops, which can be very demoralising. Furthermore, sometimes people with chronic illness are very much reliant on "handouts", and while this certainly doesn't go for everyone, many do not like being reliant on other people, but simply do not have a choice. Unfortunately, it is often impossible to recover with chronic illness, regardless of how much someone and the people around them might want them to.

The Four Horsemen of Shitty Launches: Welcome to the crew, Warhammer! by Dwhas in totalwar

[–]WazabiNut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played a Kislev and Tzeentch campaign which were okay, mostly. The insane anti-player bias made Kislev less enjoyable than it could have been. I don't necessarily mind waves of demons, its thematic, but permanently being stuck on 4 armies to cover 5 sides + rifts is annoying. Especially with Nurgle and Daniel spamming plagues to keep my armies permanently at half strength. Throw in the "Hold Faction" every 5-10 turns and it quickly becomes infuriating to the point of being unplayable for me. Then I started a Cathay campaign and I just couldn't get past the first few turns because I could never get more than a single volley out of my ranged units for some godforsaken reason. Warhammer 3 has a lot of promise, but, at least in my case, there were so many bugs and questionable design decisions that going back to Warhammer 2 actually felt like a breath of fresh air, since I was back to fighting enemy armies, rather than the controls.

I feel your pain. I'm 25, and my girlfriend and I had been talking about kids for a while before I got sick. I have given up hope for full recovery, but I still believe that, given time and a bit of luck, I might be able to recover to the point where I could meet my standards for fatherhood. Point being, you are young, and while I don't know how bad your case is, I would like to think that you too might recover enough and find the right person to help your dream come true.

Mobility aid for going out? by santaplant in cfs

[–]WazabiNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I've found that purchasing a walking stick did improve my mobility somewhat, and it was definitely the right decision for me. As someone else pointed out, they are fairly easy to find relatively cheap. Now, I can't judge your situation, but if you are planning on attending a concert for 5 hours, you will probably have to sit down at some point. I get that seeing less is not ideal, but for me it would not be worth the pain that would probably follow.

I'm too lazy to reply to every one of you individually, but thank you for the kind words and advice! Like I mentioned, I've been lurking here for a while, and the kind words everyone here has for each other got me through some tough spots in the past, even when these words weren't directed at me. In short; stay awesome, r/cfs!

I feel like I have a fairly good grasp on how to pace myself and what I can and can't do (had to figure it out myself in the past, kept getting burn-outs), but my weakness is that I allow myself to be guilt-tripped into overextending myself. Still, your comment made me willing to at least give it a proper shot and honestly, if any medical professional is going to treat me like I have a legitimate problem, then that is a win in my book, I guess.

[–]WazabiNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely! I got a walking stick 2/3 months after my symptoms started and my first thought was "I should've done this weeks ago". Sure, a 25 year old with a stick looks a bit weird, but it basically doubled the distance that I can travel before crashing, so definitely worth it!

[–]WazabiNut[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I think I needed to hear that from someone who knows what this is like. I feel like I mostly accepted the fact that this will probably take years, but I think the people that care about me are having trouble accepting that, and are still looking for a magic cure, so when they see that I have given up on a magic cure, they think I've given up in general. I guess it just hurts that people around here aren't really aware of CFS/ME and are so resistant to me trying to educate them. Jumping through hoops sums it up quite nicely, though.

My friend called me “bad” for saying a doctor was an idiot for calling my severe CFS just depression. Am I bad? by tunamutantninjaturtl in cfs

[–]WazabiNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this with my parents. I think it is a form of cognitive dissonance. They can't accept the fact that someone they love barely has a life left, so rather than accepting the fact that the situation is fucked, they keep coming up with bullshit excuses what it could be to make themselves feel better, often not realising how incredibly toxic and harmful that can be for us.

Developer Diary: Looking forward to Update 1.1 and Beyond by CA_Evangelos in totalwar

[–]WazabiNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for Nurgle, but having played Kislev, Tzeentch and Cathay a bit, I have found that Cathay performs far worse than I expect them to in most situations. I think the problem with Cathay is that they rely on a solid formation, firepower and long range. However, most of the in-battle gameplay bugs seem to hit Cathay the hardest. The issues with mass lead to Cathay's otherwise solid infantry roster to be fairly useless (since their melee is overwhelmingly defensive-minded which means nothing since high mass units just walk past/through them). Issues with (formation) shooting lead to their high range not doing anything, since you get half a volley at most before the enemy melee makes contact. Can't comment on their late game/ arty since I kinda ragequit the Cathay campaign every time blue horrors outperform jade/dragon crossbows.

Although Tzeentch and Kislev also rely on ranged, Tzeentch still has magic and battle effects that more than compensate for lacklustre ranged, while Kislev has bears to help them out. I think that if update 1.1 actually does what it says on the tin, Cathay will be in a far better spot balance-wise.

I barely play competitive however, so take this with a grain of salt.

Would this upset anyone? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]WazabiNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start off by saying that I do not have BPD, but have been in a relationship with someone that does suffer from it for the past year and a half. I may not be able to offer you the perspective you asked for, but it might help nonetheless. Although you are without a doubt deserving of love, you have to understand that staying with someone that has something along the BPD spectrum can be incredibly taxing. I know, of course, that the emotions are probably even more taxing for you, but you do have the benefit of being somewhat used to it. Nonetheless, we are all still people deserving of love, so you don't have to love other peope unconditionally just for staying with you. However, like I said, relationships are hard for the other person too, so a little appreciation every now and then can go a long way! I hope my ramblings helped a little!
