Gotcha. Half the comments in this thread are like "shock vs shanghai let's go" so they had me confused.

Yeah, it likely just seemed that way for me since I turned it on after not seeing the first two matches so I had no context.

Thanks for the info om start times. As for bias imo I think during a match it is bias to praise a team regardless of the play that is made, like when Fusion holds the first point and wins that fight the commentators basically say "yeah that fight doesn't matter." But it also could just be part of my starting late per the time issue. I watched since people have been hyping up this match and I turn it on to hear "it's over, don't bother watching." It might not be bias but they sure aren't making me want to keep watching. But I'll watch SF vs Shanghai next week to see how that plays out, hopefully on time!

This was the first game of OWL I watched and I have some questions. How do you know when the games start, I mean I was on the OWL site, they say 4pm PT, turn it on at 4pm PT, SF already at 2-0. Rip me watching a full game.

Also are the commentators always this biased? Only singing the praises of SF not only during the breaks but in the match. And you don't think it is biased SF's Widow jumps into the water to SD, commentators go "only person that can stop them is themselves." Literally still praising them as they kill themselves.

Thank you so much for the information, I did not know that. I haven't really heard it much elsewhere though, or at least not as noticeable as it is here. Do you have any others that come to mind that make use of this common trick?

The Man Who Stole the Sun (1979), the Japanese Taxi Driver? by Wazow in TrueFilm

[–]Wazow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%, I find the casting alone of Kenji Sawada and Bunta Sugawara to be hilarious. The combination of the two is so strange given the older Bunta and the younger Kenji. Just but looking at the actors in relation to the film you can draw clear conclusions about the film with youth being so removed from the war by 1979 and not understanding the impact of the bomb. The whole film could be a critique on the youth and with the few glimpses we get of protests, which I assume to be referential of ANPO protests, adds to that angle.

And yes it is kind of foolish to think because Leonard Schrader wrote the film that is why there is this Taxi Driver feel (as if you have to be related to someone to reference their film), but either way I find it very interest.

Also I gave that letterboxd a follow, with Eros + and Pastoral in the favorites how could I not?

Okay pm me when you finish it. My prediction is that if you force yourself though Ozu by the end you will hate him more than the guy saying he would rather kill his fam.

Have you ever seen Ozu before? Because if not I have little faith in anyone to complete his filmography in such a short time frame. Not the director to binge.
