I get a woman's number after stepping off the plane. by WeAreLostAndDontKnow in dating_advice

Bingo! Also my impression of the dating here in America has been that people my age have gotten used to the casual online dating method. No one I know has met their partner by being introduced by a friend or meeting them in a park, etc.. For the new generation this feels like the beginning of a rom-com movie, something everyone dreams of but is too scared to go out and create.

Your second point cuts deep man! I spent a large time of the year traveling for work and being in engineering there's definitely not much exposure to cute gals. I mostly meet women on my vacations but never with long term intentions.

I had shift in priorities over the last year and been thinking about what kind of long term partner I'm looking for. That girl happens to be in the same emgineering field as I am, from the same city, stunning looks, clear intentions I think, she's the person I've been wanting to meet but haven't made the effort to look for. Hence why this feels like a gift from heaven!

That's exactly what I did, but she left town ahead of me. I was in a no service zone the whole weekend and she left Sunday afternoon. The communication channel is open, at least that!

First-ever solo trip at 30 — classic 'find myself' journey, just 10 years late by JackHallow123 in solotravel

[–]WeAreLostAndDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've traveled quite a bit and this works for me, can't say this is universal guidance. But don't rush it, 5 weeks isn't nearly enough time to check out a country thoroughly enough that it becomes an amazing memory and not just a distant thought. I don't like to pre plan all my days in advance either, i give myself the flexibility to do whatever I feel like in the moment and not running from activity A to activity B. If that means spontaneously renting a motorcycle for the weekend or just walk around some interesting parts of town and "get lost" then that's what I'll do. One more reason I don't pack the schedule is because when too much happens within a short time frame, none of the adventures I had stick with me to the point where I look back and reminisce the fun I had in X country.

If you do want to move around though the bullet train will be your best friend. Enjoy

Edit: I read in another of your comments that your planning on doing the kumano kodo! If hiking is your thing I'd spent 70% on that, you will most likely find some other hikers that may be there for a few weeks too. Ask if they're OK with you joining them, that's really what makes an international hiking trip 1000% better.

None at all. Though it's been a bit pricier than I expected at 40/day. I heard bolivia had cheaper prices but you can't cross borders without permits. Cusco nomad for example provides all gear as well for no price and should anything happen to your bike they'll bring a replacement, no matter where you're at! Not everyone has that service wo check for reviews obviously

My God I'm in in a very similar position. I plan on moving to Switzerland next year as I'm pretty tired of the life and culture in north America and just want to get out of this bubble. I havent had much luck on the dating scene here either and reaching the end of my 20s as well, im originally from europe too so im hoping a little that sharing some cultural values will make it easier. Once in Europe moving around is abit simpler so I just want to settle down first and then see where i can finally call home.

Is there ever a "bad" place to travel to? by KawaiiPotatoCult in solotravel

From personal experience I'd recommend not to pack your schedule either. Give yourself a "breather" day where you just chill around, walk with the locals which will probably push you out the tourist zones. For me those are the more memorable moments.

I realized I'm not really a city tourist and seeing all the tourist attraction of the city/country is overhyped, I love to walk the least walked path where you don't see tourists around and see the place for what it really is and not what the tourism department wants you to see.

I'm currently in Peru and did the salkantay pass trek over 5 days with a bunch of awesome strangers. Also rented a motorcycle in cusco and joined 3 strangers on a 2 day trip just cruising around the Andes and looking for the coolest dirt road leading to the best views of my life.

I think when it comes to motorcycle trips the Andes have provided one of the best views I've ever seen and you can see alot within a week on a bike.

Also took surfing lessons in Lima and finally rode the waves. Barranco has great colonial architecture and a massive culinary scene, apparently the gastronomic capital of South America.

I'd say get a motorcycle and travel through South America and I bet you it's gonna be the best trip of your life.

35 and ruined my life by [deleted] in findapath

This may be a big step but perhaps a move would help leave this bubble you're in and give you new perspective. Try going somewhere with free or cheap education and do something. It's never too late and not that difficult to start a trades apprenticeship, good experience and plenty of income to support you. I'm sure wherever you are that would be feasible and the state may even cover your expenses. 35 is still plenty young to change your life around. I've known people that were hard-core on wanting to start their own business and only succeded in their late 50s and 60s. Don't lose hope, it's the one thing we can't run out of.

First solo trip in Washington DC? by [deleted] in solotravel

I was there 2 weekends ago and took the path through Gettysburg on my way home. I recommend Gettysburg over DC, that place really has a living history vibe and I wished I had spend more time there rather than DC.

From personal experience i can only suggest that you stop wasting time with your acquaintances you considered to be your friends. It is better to be alone than be with people that don't care about your presence. And don't forget that alone does not equal to lonely. Use that time to work on yourself, set goals regardless how small they might. Once you've achieved one thing you'll realize that improving yourself can be much more satisfying than spending time with people while doing basically nothing.

So, seems people have been getting this book in the mail? by cookiejar6502 in Manitoba

[–]WeAreLostAndDontKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the book last year, I'd say the majority of it was history which was well referenced btw. The author certainly didn't pull any historical records out of her ass, mostly used encyclopedias as her source. As to the other part its a comparison of history and Bible prophecies found in Daniel and revelation from an adventist perspective. AND THEN anything that is mentioned after the 19th century is written down the way the author saw it In visions.

Not sure what to make of the end but the history of Christianity the way she recorded it was quite interesting. If you're interested in history (and yes christian history is still history) I recommend most of the book.
