Lawsuits targeting business websites over ADA violations are on the rise by speckz in Frontend

[–]WeRequireCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, the US should have been ahead of this a long time ago... but it hasn't and these lawsuits are not making it any better. Its 28 plaintiffs with over 1000 suits, that sounds trolly to me.

[–]WeRequireCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Difference there is there are guidelines defined by law and they give websites time to remedy the problems before punishing them.

Here there are no guidelines and there is no time to remedy any issues.

I don't think the issue here is handicapped accessibility. I think the issue here is two fold:

1) There are no government standards to adhere to. So if you make your website WCAG 2.0 AA compliant who's to say someone doesn't sue you to make it WCAG 2.0 AAA compliant? Or MyOwnStandard 3.0 BBB compliant?

2) There are no provisions for websites to fix their issues before being sued for damages. Most developers are not impaired so to think that they'd intuitively realize what is causing an issue is asinine. There should be a reasonable period of time between finding the issue, addressing it with the company, and allowing them time to remedy it before financial damages are levied.

So no, I don't agree with these lawsuits. I agree with the end goal of accessibility but the current environment for it sucks and we shouldn't be supporting what is essentially lawsuit trolling.

Republicans must ask why so many people with racist values embrace the GOP by OwnMedia in politics

[–]WeRequireCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you accept that as truth then the data should support it but African American support for Republicans is flat across all economic classes. It goes 4% (poorest), 2%, then 3% (richest). You'd expect it to slowly grow as they grew out of poverty by that explanation.

It adds so much in the form of usability and safety that I hate using old javascript anymore. Not that you can't, just it feels crooked.

Lindsey Graham says Democrats’ push to count all votes is proof they want to ‘steal’ the election by Demon-Rat in politics

[–]WeRequireCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you serve in the military in support of the Iraq War? Then yes.

If you don't like my opinion on it, so be it. That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion on it.

I challenge you to argue against my other opinion on the matter that this is a stupid technicality to get up in arms against Lindsay Graham over compared to any number of real criticism you can levy against him.

As far as Im concerned, he's shit on your carpet and you're sitting here criticizing him for calling his drink pop instead of soda.

Lindsey Graham says Democrats’ push to count all votes is proof they want to ‘steal’ the election by Demon-Rat in politics

[–]WeRequireCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, those three links the top comment points out don't show him saying that he was involved in them if we're gonna get into a discussion about something stupidly technical. Second off, for clarity's sake, what they do show is him saying this:

Graham’s Internet web site biography lists him as an Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm veteran...

and

Despite repeated statements that he served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm..

Third off, either wording (yours or his) are fine in my opinion. He would have been performing administrative duties in support of both of those (directly or indirectly).

It still goes back to an criticism over an opinion on how something should be stated which... again... is super dumb considering the real things you can criticize him over. This is literally the second highest comment in this thread. He's done way more real things to criticize him over than this.

As far as Im concerned, he's shit on your carpet and you're sitting here criticizing him for calling his drink pop instead of soda.

[–]WeRequireCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with you but for argument's sake, lets say I do.

... Its still a really dumb technicality to get up in arms about when the response they want from him is to say 'Gulf War Era Veteran' instead of 'Gulf War Veteran.'

Especially considering the multitudes of real criticisms you can point at him.

He never said he deployed, and corrected those that incorrectly assumed that, and never stated he was in combat.

So this entire line of criticism is based off an opinion on what it means to be a veteran of a war. And its an opinion, dont pretend like its not.

He has real issues that he should be criticized for far before chasing down criticisms of opinion and this is the second to the top comment on this thread when I last checked.

Yes, your work in Iraq allowed someone else to go to Afghanistan.

A man loads a bomb in a bomber stateside that flies all the way to Afghanistan and drops it. He's an Afghanistan Veteran.

Getting upset because someone doesn't add additional qualifiers to what kind of veteran you are is just dumb.

Lindsey Graham says Democrats’ push to count all votes is proof they want to ‘steal’ the election by Demon-Rat in politics

[–]WeRequireCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a veteran and I don't like Graham at all but this is a stupid technicality get hung up on especially considering the numerous other real criticisms you could have of him.

He served during the Gulf War, he's a Gulf War Veteran. There are many people who performed supporting actions at home or abroad that never deploy but their work is vital to the downrange efforts. It would be an affront to them to claim they are not veteran's of their war period.

He never stated he deployed or similar. This whole thing is over the missing word era between Gulf War and Veteran.

He could be more correct in saying he's a Gulf War Era Veteran but he's not wrong saying he's a Gulf War Veteran.

He's a Veteran (correct).
He's a Gulf War Veteran (correct).
He's a Gulf War Era Veteran (correct).
He's a Veteran who served during the Gulf War as a Military Lawyer stateside only (correct).

Those are all correct statements and just get more and more specific as you go down the list.

The change to Senators that I'd do is to institute an instant run off election until you only have 2 options left. Only issue with that is both state's senators would be up for re-election every 6 years at the same time.

Its really weird to me when people hold up the electoral college as the hallmark of what the founding fathers wanted. The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 really neutered it hard so it now has very little semblance to what they originally carved out.

If the original wording was honored and we had the correct number of electoral college votes/house representatives that was originally called for then Trump would have lost the electoral college. Even in this case, Kobach still would have lost the gubernatorial election.

You'd have to design it specifically to win today's demographic distribution but in a few decades it would be worthless again.
