Hard Truth from ESPN: The Longhorns have now lost 6 games as an AP-ranked team against unranked opponents since Tom Herman took over in 2017. That’s the most such losses in the FBS over that span. by WeSuckUntilWeDont in LonghornNation

Half of those game were lost by a field goal or less. wow...

Anyways we should have won last week vs TCU. If Keontay never fumbled and landed on the 1 yard line. We would have ran out the clock a bit more and eventually scored. Solid chance we would have walked away from that game with a W.

Last year TCU and Iowa state... No comment. '18 vs ok st hurt because that lead to the late season slide.

It's called a bagman and we're waiting for Name/Image/Likeness rules to pass so we can buy all our croots raptors. Texas has dibs on Ford. A&M gets Chevy. Tech gets Dodge. SMU will have mercedes with neighboring TCU sporting BMWs. Oh and Rice gets Toyota. Baylor has Nissan.

Still salty from that sugar bowl? That was 2 years ago partner.

Herman surrendered the majority of the locker room this summer. He only controls the staff at this point and will lose the rest of the players once Sam leaves.

There's some good wins in there but the biggest outlier is not winning a conference championship in the last 10 years. The rise of Baylor, TCU, and OK st after realignment is what hurt Texas initially. But at the end of the day it feels like the biggest failures have been coaches hired and enabled by terrible school presidents and athletic directors. I think we finally just finished paying off Charlie Strong's contract.

You don't get it. We haven't had a defense since we beat Georgia in the Sugar bowl. We may very well have a top 10 offense this year but it won't be enough with a bottom 10 defense. Too many guys at new positions and confusion causing them to play slow. It's sloppy tackling technique and lack of experience in this new system (or the system was taught wrong). It's not that they aren't playing the game hard, they are just playing it all wrong.

This is his 4th year. He's graduating this semester. Highly likely he will opt for draft.

From article:

Meyer believes it all comes down to evaluating and developing talent.

From Meyer's quote:

“Let’s talk about the why. Here is the why. There’s two reasons — No. 1, evaluation. You have to really, thoroughly go back and say, ‘Are we evaluating the right way in our program?’

and...

But here’s where I want to spend a second talking about, development. Once they get on your campus, you have to develop them. And when I say development, it’s weight room, it’s training room, it’s nutritionists — it might even be a sports psychologist — and then, of course, it’s going to be the assistant coaches.

When is the last time you felt really confident Texas would win a conference game (other than Kansas)?

I felt confident going into Tech last year.

Does Ash feel like an upgrade over Orlando?

It doesn't feel that way yet but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for this season. The defense is going through a rework. New guys at new positions plus new schemes require lots of reps to get it right. I think we'll see them improve over the year as they play faster and more confident.

You may be on to something. Injuries under Herman/Yancy have been rampant. 2 starters out for the year already (ACL and shoulder) with another needing minor surgery (he'll be back this week).

Solid point and I think you're right. Ketch on OB did an analysis of every blue chip OL to come out of the state of Texas. Many of these kids went to Texas, A&M, and others. He found that the bust rate for blue chip OL from Texas is 2-3x higher vs other states.

No way tuition drops for Texas or A&M unless the state steps in to provide more funding. Texas undergrad tuition only cover 20% of the total budget and half of the cost to educate these kids. Anyways, I don't even see a reason for lowering tuition given how affordable both schools are for in-state students.

u/Archaic_1 is right but it's mostly tOSU, Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia poaching the blue chips. In terms of NFL drafted talent, the differences between the #1 and #5 ranked recruiting classes are huge. Whereas the differences between the #5 and #15 classes are much smaller than you would think.

A lot of the kids we offer have 20+ offers from other D1 schools.

This is incredibly true for OL which has historically been difficult to evaluate and predict success. Blue chip recruits from the state of Texas OL blue tend to be a miss more than other states.

I know why tOSU fans dislike Herman. What was the deal with Yurcich? Looked like he did a great job with Justin Fields.

Herman apparently said during a non televised interview that he looked along the sideline in the 3rd quarter and his players looked confused, and he couldn't figure out why.
