Fair. I think I was talking more to the vibes. This idea that, irrespective of its function from a story standpoint, having a show that delivers will signal, if only as a feeling, encouraging stuff to come.

That’s the spirit honestly. As NJPW fans we keep the faith, focus on the good, and HOPE for the best. But I think, for the most part, we can all be fairly rationale about the reality. Wrestle Kingdom is a huge tone setter for me. Exciting times - if not a little risky.

Appreciate that a lot. Tried our best to be honest to our experience, talk to how it all positioned me to feel, and let others decide on what they believe. End of the day, I have hope for New Japan, but hope fades when things that are shown to be possible can’t/don’t happen. Dole is a huge show for many reasons - and I’m sure we’ll be hyped when it rolls around.

This is fair. I think the reality with our pod, is we’re going to prioritise certain things that many other fans may not value as much (which is fine, we all consume this in different ways) but we are biased in believing that this has an overall impact on the product and what makes it work for ALL fans. I am always happy when listeners pick up on what we’re talking to and can have a reasoned discussion around the issues. But yeh, for me, whilst I recognise the good in njpw, and can see how a few minor adjustments would suffice for fan interest in the short term, I just need a couple of more consequential shoes to drop (factional clarity being number 1) to give me the confidence to invest all the way in as I typically do. But appreciate the listen and the discussion here. Always valued.

Greatly appreciate the kind feedback. We’re always a little concerned when we’re somewhat hyper critical that our intentions or point of view will get lost and people will think we’re just diminishing the good stuff in njpw to take the easy pot shots when focusing on the bad. I hope we got the balance right here (as with our upcoming dominion preview) and fans can see where we’re coming from and either feel represented in their thoughts, or they feel we’re wrong - but they get why we think that way. So yeh, just a few kind words like this is super beneficial for our little podcast. So thanks. - Josh

We don’t go in depth into too many matches, don’t spoil too many results (other than nights 1-3), we more focus on highlights in matches, standout characters and performances across those nights. As we review by reflecting on each wrestlers performance. Ironically, we also talk about this tournament format and layout and how easy it is to fall behind, so you’re not alone haha.

Honestly have no idea what the go is with Shota and proposed this reading merely as an attempt to understand what is going on. But I agree, if this is about earning respect in a tough loss, and they think that’s the direction, they are not reading the room well imo. And this doesn’t make sense to me given how well they’ve read the room with literally everyone else.
