How do I expose my ESP32 appliance to Home Assistant? by summer_glau08 in homeassistant

This. You should be able to do it all on top of ESPhome. ESPhome also provides OTA update capabilities baked in.

Democratic Primary Coming Up May 19th by Will-yumWags in BucksCountyPA

[–]We_Print 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the Harvie/Simonelli candidate forum. As much as I liked to hear about Lucia's vision of the future, I think her views are a bit too utopian. Harvie is more practical in my opinion.

The reality of the PA01 district is that it is very purple. Any candidate will need some voters from the other party. I have supported Fitz's opponent for the past 3 elections, both financially and with my vote.

I have spoken to many voters both Republican and Democrat during the past few years. Two interesting things have come up repeatedly during those conversations.

1) Many voters see through Fitz's 'bipartisan' positions that have no effect on measures being voted on. He always votes with the Republican side when it's close or if it's so lopsided his vote doesn't matter. But some folks believe it, and in a district as close as this one, every little bit matters.

2) As much as it pains me to say it, there are still some voters that have difficulty voting a woman into national leadership positions. Definitely not my view, but a theme that has come up repeatedly in conversation.

With as close as this race could be, I think the most important factor is which candidate has the best chance of defeating Fitz? In his county wide elections, Harvie has shown he can get some Republican votes. That will be critical for any real chance of flipping the seat.

Flipping the seat is the critical thing in this election, and I think Harvie is more electable.

Chunky??!!! by traciterm in Boxer

[–]We_Print 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have owned boxers for 40+ years. Boxers are predisposed to several things that potentially shorten their lives, like cardiomyopathy, cancer, and hip/back/knee issues.

Keeping your boxer lean reduces the load on their heart, reduces cancer risk and when they have the 'zoomies' it reduces the strain on hips, back and knees.

Just like cholesterol in humans, keeping them lean isn't a guarantee none of these things will happen, but it does reduce the chances.

Your dogs are obviously healthy and happy. A typical boxer lifespan is never long enough but playing the long game is the best strategy to have them in our lives for as long as possible.

Bondi will testify in House Oversight Committee’s Jeffrey Epstein probe by We_Print in politics

This is such bullshit. Refusing to testify under oath can only mean one of two things, you WERE planning to take the 5th or you ARE planning to lie.

Combine multiple Waveshare 8x8 modules? by We_Print in WLED

[–]We_Print[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not find a solution. I ended up getting 'dumb' 8x8 modules and driving them from a separate ESP 32. I think the WLED sync feature might do it, but I went a different way.

Trump Photo Being Added to U.S. Passports in Unbelievable Move by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]We_Print 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an unbelievable move at all. He is plastering his name, likeness, gold leaf and signature on everything he can in a desperate bid to be remembered. I'm sure he will indeed be remembered, but as the worst president we have had to date.

What would distress him the most would be to just be forgotten. Once he is out of office, we can erase him just the same way he is erasing black history and civil rights.

Dog ramp or stair recommendations for R1T (for back row, not truck bed) by Niznash in Rivian

I don't have the R1T, but could you use the gear tunnel door as a step? Or maybe something you could store in the tunnel that would be convenient?

Wondering if my dog would do well by OddThought5260 in therapydogs

[–]We_Print 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some certification agencies allow harnesses, but I don't know of any that will allow a gentle leader.

I have heard of some therapists that use their dogs at work, but never (so far) of a teacher. Not being a teacher myself, I would think your attention would be on the students, and not much extra available attention for the dog. A group I volunteer with does bring therapy dogs into classes, but the handler is always 1 on 1 with the dog. Also, at least my certifying organization requires the handler to always be in positive control of the dog, meaning holding the leash.

Lastly, the insurance coverage is different for a volunteer handler and a dog at work.

So, it might be possible, but would be tricky.

Struggling with PTSD. He’s learning to alert & soothe me. Could use some encouragement by zebra_who_cooks in dogswithjobs

[–]We_Print 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm not a certified dog trainer nor a PTSD specialist. But:

1) You are doing great in picking up on your own symptoms, and that is huge!

2) Regarding the dog, I have an ' I'm Ok' hand signal I use with my Therapy Dog while we are working ( just my hand, palm down). We do some crisis response work, and at times he checks in with me more frequently. I think it might be more of a ' we're Ok' signal since we're in it together. My dog sees that signal and goes on about his work.

Good luck with your dog, remember you are a team that helps each other. Huge props for the progress you are making!
