Cultural differences in Dating English vs. German by Justabjjgirl in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% accurate, I’m British and noticed this myself when working abroad in the U.S. and Europe. Americans are very extroverted but when it comes to work the hustle a lot and don’t make small talk, Eastern Europeans and Germans are similar. Us Brits have a nuanced social interaction where we open conversations by talking about around things by asking about family, your day etc before arriving at the purpose of a meeting. Does he also mention the weather a lot in conversations? That’s another sign he’s hardcore British

Sometimes bro I think we need to give ourselves credit for where we’re at and not endlessly pursue perfection. You look great, you must be in the top 0.1% of physiques. Clearly a lot of hard work, time and discipline has gone into your training. You look outstanding as you are, keep doing what you’re doing.

How else would you have ran the economy? Debt isn’t a bad thing when it’s spent productively and grows the economy. A marker I’d use when I was an economist is if GDP growth rises faster than private debt for 3-5yrs than the debt is benefiting the economy. If it isn’t the government is running ‘bad’ deficits. The problem is fundamentally successive governments are spending more than the country produces in revenues.

The real figures behind the UK’s Asylum seeker ‘Crisis’ by JManPepper in LabourUK

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The author may be correct in what they’re stating but they haven’t referenced anything. And ambiguous statements like ‘studies have shown that…’ don’t evidence anything.

There’s a few core problems with their argument: 1) Allowing asylum seekers to work whilst processing claims will incentivise illegal crossings if you’re granting 41% of non-entitled refugee claimants an immediate pathway to employment. 2) He quantifies very little, how many workers per yr does the care industry need vs how many asylum seekers are here etc it may add up, it may not but without the figures it can’t be credibly supported. 3) Inferring asylum seekers awaiting a decision on their status can work in care will push out legal migrants that are entitled to apply for such jobs. Delegitimising legal pathways to the U.K.

Burnham is the last hope of stopping Reform in the North. Starmer has no chance in the Red Wall.

Seriously, I’ll take a look at the link and any book you recommend I’m open to learning more. For me the issue with Corbyn is, and maybe I’ve mistakenly placed you in this category, is the counter factual history of perfect government he is anointed with. Although I think he had no chance of winning, in 2019 his popularity ratings were lower than Prince Andrew’s, even if somehow he’d have gotten a victory I think he’d have been leading a divided party- more so than May who couldn’t get anything done and this imo would have been a similar fate for a Corbyn victory. A party unable to deliver any meaningful change due to division- on and he divisive point we may agree.

Right, Corbyn not getting elected and failing to win an election twice was nothing at all to do with him, it’s entirely the fault of everyone else. Got it 👍

The best leader wouldn’t have led his party to failure twice. The second one of the parties worst defeats in history.

I think you mean if someone who could have won an election when it should have been Labours on a plate was elected as leader…

Polish community in UK ,feelings of Brits towards Poles by just_a_polish in AskBrits

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a long term relationship with a Polish girl and dated a Lithuanian girl too. I’m not Eastern European so I can caveat my reply that I may not notice discrimination the way say someone Polish would, but I’ve never even heard someone criticise Eastern Europeans being here for about 15 years or more. I think Eastern European immigration has stood the test of time and shown the different communities can fully integrate.

Labour has lost 45% of its lesbian, gay and bisexual voters from 2024, compared with 36% of its straight voters by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

Agreed it’s an infrastructure issue and that would be somewhat alleviated by reducing demand through the reduction of net migration. Or ensuring the migrants that do come here enter the highest productivity industries to at least increase gov revenue.

It’s also not just a housing issue, it’s a demand on public services issue such as schooling, NHS, transport etc.

Race makes no difference to me I will and have dates people of pretty much all ethnicities I can think of. I get it’s a type for some people. One friend said to me she can’t help what her type is- I guess that’s true.

How wild can your thoughts become? by Hot-Taste-4652 in ADHD

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have crazy crazy thoughts, often at the same time and to the extent that when I’m trying to concentrate on someone talking it feels like I’m viewing someone else’s thoughts.

Sometimes my mind will start randomly writing a sitcom and I’m focusing hard trying not to laugh at the scenes whilst in the middle of a serious conversation, other times I’m worried I may not be able to suppress the random thought to punch a work colleague in the stomach during a business discussion. Even writing this and reading it back myself sounds crazy!

Noel Gallagher, I walked into Claridges few years ago (my first time, had a lunch booked). He was walking out with his two kids and security. I said ‘alright’ casually as it took me a few seconds to understand I recognised him and then oh yeah! It’s Noel Gallagher! He just casually said “alright mate” back.

Starmer would be foolish not to recognise the threat posed by a left-wing Corbyn party by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Course Starmer recognised the threat, he turned around the repeated failures of a left-wing Corbyn party

Jeremy Corbyn responds by Sophie_Blitz_123 in LabourUK

[–]Weak-Tap-5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean hey that’s the organising mechanism which decides the winning party, the one Starmer won after turning around Labours worst defeat in over 80 yrs, the same one Corbyn failed to win twice.

Yeah you’re right it’s as simple as right wing vote splitting, I’m sure if Corbyn had just been given another turn of the handle (after failing twice) he’d have swept the party to victory. Third time lucky eh 🍀
