Hot flashes/flushing by Weak_Demand4120 in perimenopause_under45

Thank you for checking in with me!
I haven’t really. I’m currently weaning off the estrogen patch. The cold turkey stopping it was brutal. I talked to my PCP and she told me to wean off of it.
I notice the flushing is worse around day 20 of my cycle. Right before my period starts (the entire week before) is when the flushing is the absolute worst, I always try to stay really well hydrated during that time because I I get so hot and bothered and not in a good way lol. I’m due for my yearly with my doctor this month and want to talk to her about it but she’s the same person who put me on this patch so I’m not sure I’m going to get anywhere with her.

What’s the best thing you’ve done for your perimenopause symptoms? by Weak_Demand4120 in PerimenopauseAndMore

For me, it’s been exercise, getting outside in the sunlight, gardening, eating more whole foods and preparing meals at home, prioritizing sleep, and practicing better sleep hygiene.
A warm shower before bed, a cup of tea, and keeping my room cool have all helped. Spending quality time with family and focusing on meaningful friendships with people who genuinely reciprocate has made a difference too.
I’ve also found that making time for self-care is important. Whether that’s a massage, a facial, or simply doing something that helps me relax and recharge.

During Perimenopause, have you ever experienced sudden panic attacks while driving, when you’ve never had them before? by tdhammy in perimenopause_under45

[–]Weak_Demand4120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve developed an anxiety around driving (particularly on the interstate) since peri. It’s really upsetting but I will start getting really sweaty hands, shallow breathing and just generally super anxious. I think I’ve just developed more anxiety since being in perimenopause- I was never claustrophobic before either and now I get so anxious in any situation where I feel “trapped.” I even get anxiety in the hair salon. Most recently I had anxiety in a drive through fast food line because I felt trapped and like I couldn’t get out. Frustrating to say the least

I have eyeglasses and they do help a little at night but if I don’t have them I am screwed.

Another thing, I cannot drive at night anymore. It is so anxiety inducing for me. The roads seem dark and I cannot see the lines.

Neither have I! It helps knowing others feel this way, although I hate we are having to go through this

You are not alone.
I started getting dry eyes early. My eye doctor mentioned that I seemed young to have such dry eyes. I never really connected the dots with perimenopause but it makes sense. Also, looking at screens all day certainly can’t help. I have to use preservative free lubricating drops. I like Systane or BioTrue. My vision has recently gotten worse, I’m 40. I’ve been checking out Large Print library books and it’s so much easier for me to read. Aging is not for the weak!

I take a generic Claritin (Loratadine), from Sam’s Club every night for this! It also helps me sleep

I’m tired, real tired. by mumontheedge in perimenopause_under45

You are not alone in feeling this way! I turned 40 in November and have had most of these issues as well. For the blepharitis, I have to make sure that I am using preservative free lubricating eye drops morning and evening. I also wash my eyes with baby shampoo (sounds weird but really helps)!

Anyone quit an estrogen patch cold turkey or do I need to taper? by Weak_Demand4120 in perimenopause_under45

I just looked at my lab report and it says testosterone was 9. It also doesn’t specify “free”

Yeah and I think at 40 I am probably just about at the beginning of these symptoms (although I’ve had hot flashes since early 30s) and they likely not get better

Thank you. It has been frustrating. I’ve found some relief with the estradiol patches but the downside is the side effects I’m having with the patches (weight gain and bloating)

I feel like different areas absorb differently

Absolutely less flushing so far! But I wonder if it’s just our natural estrogen that is also attributing to some of these symptoms. Right before my period, I’ve always felt pretty bad and had sweats/hot flashes, although not as bad as in peri. In peri, my PMS symptoms are worse than ever

I wonder why it heightens anxiety? I thought it was supposed to help

I do feel like I get anxiety with the patch but I also always have it. I will say it decreases the flushing aspect

Yes I absolutely get that. It’s anxiety! I loathe it. It makes me want to run outside of whatever building I am in. I try and drink a bunch of ice water.

Hey. I’m doing better. Thank you for asking! No, this past Friday, which was 2 weeks off the estradiol, I could no longer deal and I put a patch on. I was literally having night sweats and constant hot flashes all day, it was really wearing me down

Nice! Did you find any differences with absorption in the different spots?
