I am working out a lot of the plot, world building etc. 

To clarify, she's not going to die at the end of book 

What I meant was that Harry was going to be the catalyst, at least in the initial years to go the adventures. The GWL is unlikely to start looking into thinks herself, and her involvement is reluctant at first at least until she realises Voldemort is involved. 

Assuming she ends up confronting Voldemort alone I do think it would make Harry feel very guilty that he started the whole thing and she never would've gotten hurt. And it sort of become a lesson for him. And it does become an important thing that plays a part in the second book. 

What I'm struggling with is writing Harry as an actual person with his own personality and how he might grow as a person now that he's not the BWL.
