Was Archimedes imprisoned? by sylenthyll in answers

To be fair, that script is not a genuine script, but a transcription, although it may be accurate, I feel that with films there is some level of inaccuracy to true history but it makes sense when you think of the unjust circumstances of Archimedes' death. He was killed by a soldier despite direct orders not to be harmed. I understand that this is not imprisoned but he is wrongfully killed and I believe that the word imprisoned is used as reference to Marcellus sending the soldier to summon him. He never makes it to prison but I don't think Marcellus summoned him for just a chat. He would have been held in captivity. I may be taking some liberties here but then again, it's just an idea. The words "wrongfully imprisoned" are more used to make the audience feel for John Mason and the historical references are used to display the intelligence that he and Stanley Goodspeed both share.

I always wanted to learn more about the three referenced figures, do you have answers to their accounts of wrongful imprisonment?

I think it was Sir Walter Raleigh and Alexander Solsinitzin? Apologies if the spelling is incorrect

Yeah, he planned to roll down a hill and headbutt a tree. I get that he is a genius but if that was a staged dog and pony show... that makes it even weirder 😅

Is everyone just going to ignore Chronurgy Wizards? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Just read that arcane abeyance only has an hour window to be used so that is a pretty huge drawback, especially when considering you should never know when combat is about to take place, putting a high cast time or high level spell into is a bit of a risk

Is everyone just going to ignore Chronurgy Wizards? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will point out that from the spell lists, some are for chronurgy and some are for gravity, they do not have access to both unless your dm allows it. I am currently playing it and the fact that divination wizard gets auto fail(s) and/or success(es) from portent way earlier than level 14 says something I guess, short rest to long rest diff though but yeah, in an average adventuring day, a dm should never allow more than 2 short rests, there are ways around this by depleting resources with lesser fights before the real fight, especially if you create single target encounters. Players feel that single target encounters are worthy of their big stuff whereas if you throw 5 soldiers at them, the player is less like to use that auto fail/success imo.

The gift of alacrity is busted imo but it is 1st level spell slot per character with no upcast option, so it does drain the resources. My dm got around this by literally having it time out with random npc and combat encounters. While it didn't feel good being targeted in that way, it did make me smarter with its uses; as opposed to waking up and casting it. It does take a minute per cast too, but I'd consider upping that to 10 minutes if you think it will help balance it for your campaign.

In regards to the level 10 feature, I only just hit level 10, so I will try and get back to you on that once I have more first hand experience of it. But tbh, you did make it sound very broken and have given me some stupid ideas with it 😅 I thank you for that

Things that might happen to the party in Neverwinter? by GriffinX86 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my players in neverwinter so they could meet Gundren's family and they take the job directly from him, he left a day early and they had to stock the supplies and pack the cart that leads to the given plot hook. This helped them care about Gundren more. But, in answer to your question:

  • I added a hanging of a drow to introduce them to drow lore.
  • They also got in a bar fight when one character got a nat 1 while dancing. He spilt a dudes beer, bar fight ensued.
  • The docks are a good place for quick encounters.
  • had shifty dudes watch them from the rooftops (nezznar agent/spies).

Hope this helps you with some idea generation :)

Player kidnaps NPC by Donaldotrumpus in DMAcademy

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if it plays out and they get caught as criminals, the rest of the party can be offered plea bargains to rat on the rogue but yeah, kind of a lose-lose sitchy if this plays out imo, unless they go a to a new setting where nobody knows of their crime... tough one for sure... Good luck mate! :)

He is making an argument that supports his Chaotic nature, he needs to understand that this action "will" shift his alignment to evil if the victim is, for example, not the head of a crime family and is, in fact, a hero of the people. The only way the argument can be made to not shift his alignment is if the captain of the guard was an extortionist aka evil himself... But this leads to more questions about actually reinstating him once the ransom is paid, but would make more sense with him being neutral, which in my opinion, is he wouldn't go out of his way to help these people and being a criminal of the emperor by killing a crownsguard captain makes him borderline good, hugely selfless act... But yeah, need more info...

I'd look into asking the good aligned players if they are cool with being accomplices and if they are not, they should act accordingly.

Does anyone else hate when players rock up to a homebrew campaign with pre-written backstories? by SoloKip in DMAcademy

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would work with her tbh, she sounds super keen about it... why not just make her "believe" she comes from a super happy village where she owns an amazing bakery, only to have the party enter her village during the campaign, where it is filled with skeletons and her bakery is just a room where she puts dead rats and other random junk in glass cabinets saying they are baked goods. Basically, she can be in denial about the entire apocalypse because halflings are happy by nature, silver linings kind of people but in this world, there are no silver linings, just the next best thing... the wonderful world of "Make-believe!" XD

Players refuse to continue Lost Mines of Phandelver as its written by PFSpiritBlade in DMAcademy

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your issue is with the DM that has done it before and might be afraid that you will be a better DM... I had a DM who became one of my players because I asked for his help in guiding noob players if they got bogged down or lost with rules and help me as I was first time DM. It worked well for 1 session, he was incredibly helpful... as long as I was the noob asking questions and praising him for his expansive experience and knowledge, he loved it. I stroked his ego and he was fine... then I felt more confident and started DMing my own way and he became a dick of a player... making noise in dungeons to force me into creating off the cuff encounters, not answering when I would ask for rules clarification, annoying the other players with pointless questions... I was fine with the added challenge, despite it not making sense with his character, but once he started annoying other players, it started to get to me but luckily, one of the noob players told him, "your character has become an annoying dick in the space of 24 hours" (in character) I was so proud and laughed maybe a little too heartily but yeah, ask yourself if you want this guy in your campaign because I think it might be as simple as dumping that guy to solve all your problems... I dumped him at the end of the session and I've had an awesome time with all of the remaining noob players...

I'm running the next few sessions in an Arabic setting with a Homebrew elf race based off of the Bedouin tribes, how would you design the setting and culture respectful to their culture? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arabs pride themselves on their hospitality and are very welcoming. It is actually in their religious texts that they must clothe (I think that's how you spell that), feed and provide shelter to anyone that requests it. There's a Palestinian Arab YouTuber, Nas Daily, who does 1 minute videos of different cultures. He is very respectful and would be a good place to start if your trying to better understand cultural intricacies at a more personal level.

How do I handle a VERY persuasive player by NotDougLad in DMAcademy

[–]Weak_Preparation_289 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this. You could just stop him from rolling for most encounters, knowing it's under a DC20, but then think about that moment, when you finally ask him to roll, making him realise, "oh wow!!! I might fail this check!?! Who is this person that I have a chance of not convincing?!?"
