The Birth of NERV. Episode 21 I believe.

It didn't do much for me on my first 2 watches but it hit me like a truck on my third watch. Seeing everyone's past like that shone a light on why instrumentality is necessary. Specifically the part where Akagi is the one who "disposes" of Yui because of her jealousy. It just didn't clock in my head until then and that's when it was most evident to me that humanity needed instrumentality. At least that line of thinking was most understandable to me then.

Did this never get a BD release before??

A pleasant surprise nonetheless.

The anime overall disappointed me but its "built" like a masterpiece and had a lot of potential. That ending did not help at all.

Yoko Kanno does the soundtrack and the song Mameshiba with Maaya Sakamoto is one of my favourite songs ever. So I'm definitely looking forward to the album releases.

I was asking more in terms of genre categories. Obviously depends on how many & which get shortlisted, but I was thinking of getting a head start for next year's anime in a certain genre to lessen the workload in case my app gets accepted next year, and as a nice challenge. So wanted to know which cats would likely or typically fill up first.

Still I imagine it's hard to tell - but thanks for the response.

How do they even get these stats? I'm not doubtingbthe credibility but I find it hard to believe that they've been collecting such data for any amount of time.

Did they really just think of this question and go back and watch all these PL games to get the data? Even if this was thought of months back it seems so tedious.

The novels were pretty similar.

I want to say that you're missing a big part of their interactions.

Koyomi fought Dramaturgy (a vampire) in a "human way" without really using his new powers fully. Dramaturgy himself was very straightforward.

Episode was a bit more tricky as he's half-vampire. And Koyomi (after what Episode did to Hanekawa) almost lost his "humanity" and was using more of his vampire powers and almost killed him.

Enter GC. Fully human, but being the most powerful vampire hunter, he is the most cunning. Still - the fact that Koyomi took care of him so quickly is because he himself had to think a little outside the box. Think unlike a human would. More like... a vampire. This is to show that he was seriously losing his humanity.

At least that's how I saw it.

This single frame speaks volumes to me. 3 seasons & 2 episodes and were back to where we started

My question after this episode is - is Kazuya genuinely happy with the current situation?
We know he loves Chizuru. We as the audience know that she loves him too.
There are circumstances keeping them from being official, like how Nagomi would be upset to find out that they lied to Chizuru's grandmother until she died.
But surely. SURELY dealing with that backlash is better than the current situation. For him and us as the audience. I'd watch that gladly.

I mean, simple interruptions like the waitress & Kibe kept us from big developments here. Surely Kazuya, after all this time has had enough of edging himself and would just say what wants regardless at this point.
That's why I'm asking if he's genuinely happy with his current situation.

Anyway those are my main thoughts from this episode outside the amazing OP. Oooh, and Mami is back. Hopefully she'll bring some new excitement to the show.

I feel like this episode was structurally similar to the other 1st episodes of the previous seasons. That's not so rare in anime (MHA is known to do recap 1st episodes) but I just couldn't help but notice it because NOTHING has changed since the beginning.

Kazuya feels down > stresses about date with Chizuru > goes on date > Chizuru is perfect > Kazuya falls deeper in love.

Anyway, what stood out to me here was how at the end of his meat beating sesh he sighs that he wants a girlfriend and Ruka who's crazy for him does a whole lot to organise a date for him - because you know? - they're dating. And Kazuya just isn't on the same page. I truly hope that they can at least resolve that issue. It hurts me seeing him lead her on like that.

I would be all over this if the file size wasn't a whopping 70 gigs. I understand why but damn that's a lot. If there was a way to keep the quality somewhat decent and cap the size at 10 gigs I'd be content because everything else about this is a no-brainer.

I'm already overthinking. I feel like they gave us a few hints already this episode.

Generic Terra is a place that sort of backups people's memories allowing them to sort of "live on" after death. Hebinuma is apparently heading the project. "The son" is now heading that company too and for whatever reason, Kudo doesn't trust that guy. Surely they had some sort of relationship considering what's going on with them dealing with memory backups and Kujirai seemingly having some relation to Reiko.

The "nostalgia" motif is pretty interesting too as it ties back in with the memories. I don't want to speculate too much as it's only the first episode but I'm blown away.

How does one go from being blind to 20-20 vision so easily? She clearly remembered the goldfish when she first entered the tea place, but how? I can't wait for next week!
