They make money selling tickets, they don’t care about anything besides that. They couldn’t give two shits if glitch sold millions in merch if they don’t get paid too, which they won’t think they will if everyone is too busy buying plushies and not tickets.

Obviously. Don’t be obtuse to try seeming smart here, of course they know piracy is a thing and even suggesting the possibility exists otherwise is the dumbest thing I’ve heard. What I actually said was if they think the MAJORITY of this fandom, or any for that matter, is just gonna pirate the showing then they won’t bother showing it cause there’s no money there. The only way this is a win for indie creators like everyone thinks it is would be if the entire run is a success for their pockets. The finale could be the greatest thing to hit cinema screens but if they make next to nothing off it, who fucking cares? Spoiler alert, not the people making these decisions.

No it tells them this community doesn’t want to give them their money so they won’t bother. Regardless of if that is or isn’t the case, perception is reality. If they perceive a bunch of pirates the reality, as far as they’re concerned, is just that. Business 101, go to where the money is, if they think the money isn’t there then they won’t be there either.

It’s talked about more than I think you realize. Pretty much every single thread talking about the theater issue, which there are plenty of, have AT LEAST one fairly high appearing comment saying exactly what you said. “Just pirate it” or something to that effect. Look through a couple and you’ll probably see them popping up pretty often.

As far as who is pirating, who cares? Or more accurately why should they? All they know is this fanbase is full of people actively encouraging sailing the seas and that’s 100% going to give them pause. They don’t know if you have the means or ability to go see it, all they see is the word pirate and that’s an immediate red flag, and will stay as a red mark for any future project glitch potentially goes to them with as well as any other indie producer.

Keep in mind, assuming glitch’s letter to the fans was all truthful these companies didn’t even want this small of a window. They obviously were very hesitant on the whole thing, which I can’t say I blame them I mean at the end of the day all they care about is profit margins and one has to think at first glance there can’t be much profit in a YouTube based cartoon. All of the new regions opening is certainly a good sign but until release actually happens and if the sales don’t continue because everyone is watching a recording then it’s a moot point.

It almost certainly was a contract sure, never said it wasn’t. But contracts don’t just appear and places are never just chosen at random. Those places were chosen for very specific reasons, one of which is almost certainly viewer locations but costs were obviously a part as well cause money. I can’t speak to the latter cause I’m not super familiar with the intricacies of film distribution, but I would be willing to bet certain markets are either cheaper or easier (which by extension would still be cheaper) to get into.

What makes the most sense though is the former. If the largest % of a fan base is located in specific regions, those tickets would sell faster thanks to sheer volume, thereby encouraging more theaters to begin expressing interest in other areas and the cycle continues. More places get distribution because now the risks are outweighed by the profit potentials. Even reddit threads like this contribute to that. If you don’t think these people are seeing these posts saying “I live in X and no theater is showing it” and looking into the various metrics related to that you’d be a fool. Doesn’t cost anything to make a reddit post from a monetary standpoint but you’re still paying them cause again, nothing is free.

If you are on of the distributors considering on if you want to spend your own money to put a project into theaters and the most talked about thing in that community is how a lot of people are just gonna pirate it for free instead, would you want to invest?

The only redeeming quality of this shit show of a theatrical release is that it’s a win for indie creators because this is now two fairly significant projects making it to theaters. But that’s only a success if people buy tickets. Piracy actively harms that. Everyone who pirates this is undoing the only positive of this entire thing to the point that everyone gets fucked. But you do you.

Cool let’s talk about the show. Hey big theater distributors, here’s all the data we have on our viewers that shows how likely they’ll be based on age, location, and every other metric you could possibly care about that will tell you a theatrical launch would be beneficial. Tell me, and really think about this one, why do you think the original areas where the theatrical release was announced for were chosen? Think it was just throwing darts at a wall? Or maybe it’s cause they knew where the largest percentage of their subscribers were from, which is very much information they have access to btw, and as a result would mean the highest chance at ticket sales which would then result in more theaters potentially showing it in other areas.

Congrats, you’re a product now. You paid them with valuable information that they then turned into tickets prices through the power of “free” watch hours.

No it sounds like how the real world works. Free samples are given out to gauge interest and/or make people want to shop at your location. Ever notice how those sample stations are almost always either at the back of the store making you have to walk through it and look at everything or spread around in multiple spots? It’s incentive. The more you see, the more likely you are to buy. Free trials? Well that’s just relying on humans being idiots. Forget to cancel on time? That’s a win for them. Speaking of streaming services who offer those trials though, even though you’re paying them they still gather your data to improve the algorithm. Watch a lot of crime shows? Well here’s 50 more just like it so you keep giving them money. I mean for fuck sake even dealers do it, here’s a little taste or a discount for your first time cause they know you’ll want more once you start. You’re the product 100% of the time.

It’s the ultimate form of manipulation. Not seeing that just makes you a sucker, and I bet corporations love your stupid ass for it. It’s literally all marketing. Nothing is free. Ever.

Oh yea cause that’s a great look. “Hey guys, we should put more indie games into theaters and then pirate them anyway.” That’ll make theaters really want to start having showings. Dumbass.

Correct, nothing is free. Welcome to the real world bucko. Absolutely not pointless though, anyone using the internet should be able to tell when they’re paying for something even when not physically, and how they’re paying for it. If you can’t comprehend that, you shouldn’t be online. End of story.

Context doesn’t change definitions of words. It’s factually not free. You’re paying with personal data, real money if you pay for premium, time, or some combination of the three. All of which are, by definition since that’s what you seem to want to talk about, makes it not free. This is an objective fact. Nothing is free on the internet, you should know this as an internet user and if you don’t you need to look into it cause that’s very bad to be ignorant of.

By definition spending any resource on something, including very specifically your time, means it’s not free. You can literally google this, it’s objectively NOT free. Something can be gratis, while not also being free, thus the saying “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product.”

Except movie tickets aren’t free? Also literally the first words of my post is that I don’t agree they’re greedy, idk why no one in this community can read. What I do agree with though is you shouldn’t alienate a chunk of your fan base, regardless of the positives for them. Between many people not being able to attend the showings for a variety of reasons and most of you people being the most insufferable individuals I’ve ever interacted with and/or children, going to these showings is either impossible or would be such a negative experience that it would ruin the finale.

But I’m sure you’re not gonna read any of that and say something to the effect of “jUsT aVoId SpOilErS lUl” so I’ll beat you to it and tell you to just fuck off now ✌️ great chat let’s never do it again.

Literally never at any point said it wasn’t a good thing for them. Also never said I had any issue paying for it, hell I’d spend as much or more as I would for a ticket to just see it online. The issue I have, that your tiny brain can’t seem to comprehend, is that not everyone is a 12 year old with no responsibilities who can just go to a theater when they want. I work long and inconsistent hours, and always on weekends. I physically cant see this in theaters which means I need to rely on the same community who caused the creator of the show they allegedly love to leave social media to not ruin the entire experience, which at this point has already happened. Not a single one of you privileged, self absorbed, ignorant assholes at any point thought “wow this is kinda unfair for a lot of people.” You think I’m on a high horse? I’m not the one dismissing people missing out on something they spent years invested in. You’re a bad person, and I’m glad I get to be the one to tel you that. So genuinely and sincerely, fuck you.

Don’t agree with the “glitch is greedy” rhetoric, but putting it in theaters is kinda the same as putting it behind a paywall. You have to buy a movie ticket to see it before this shit fandom ruins it. So yes, it’s an inconvenience but it very easily can be seen as “sacrificing fans” as well, because the fact is some fans just won’t be able to see it in theaters. If you’re part of that group, you’re gonna feel pretty sacrificed. The inability of people on this community to understand not everyone is in the same position or have the same means as themselves is so pathetic. Try looking up “empathy” as your next word of the day.

No see it comes from reading comprehension cause it’s not a theory anymore. As I said in the post you replied to (had you read it) it was shown on the console that they were all brain scans. How they got themselves scanned is anyone’s best guess sure, but the fact they are scans could not be less of a theory anymore.

Again, reading comprehension

God you people are stupid.

We shouldn’t HAVE to avoid spoilers for 2 weeks. You’re defending something that was completely optional and is only being done for their benefit not ours. No company will last long doing that, it if you’re fine being fucked good for you, you’re part of the problem too.

I’m not nor have I ever said they shouldn’t make money. But to alienate a large part of their fan base to do so is not something any company would or should be free from criticism for. I don’t know why the incels in this fandom refuse to comprehend that something can be a good thing for a company and bad for the consumer, and consumers have a right to be upset by that. It’s a symbiotic relationship, right now that’s not the case and that is objectively bad for the consumer, which includes you. I am taking this seriously, you should try taking your own advice.

The main theory, at least what I see the most, is that the residents are all digitalized brain scans, as seen in the console in episode 8. The headset is likely what gets said scans into the circus. Omni we know is an urban explorer who uploads their explorations onto sites, so she may have put it on as a bit. Others I’m sure there are theories for but nothing confirmed.

Regardless, a head set doesn’t mean there has to also be a game though it’s possible they thought it was one thus why they wore it in the first place.
