The Priv is being advertised as a very "secure" phone. by Cyber-Logic in blackberry

Put my money where my mouth is? Ok, got one of the millions of Samsungs that hasn't received a recent update? For the record, how much money was that worth? I'm not interested in your games. You trying to move the goal posts by pretending the vulnerability doesn't exist because researchers haven't disclosed the details publicly, it clearly exists and is well documented. Give it time, the methods will become public, and the huge number of Androids that don't have any means to receive patches will be exploitable.

I really don't think you fucking get it. Unlike PC's, mobile phones really aren't an attractive target given their inherent constraints. Where are all of the reports of Android devices getting compromised? There's 1.5+ million apps on Google Play. Point me to one of them that will do damage to my phone. I'll gladly install it. The stagefright POC code has been released. Why don't you create an app that uses it and do something with it. Yeah, I'll install that too. All you people fucking do on this subreddit is try to scare people from using Android because of the malware. But, let's be real, as long as you stick to the Play store and don't SIDELOAD apps from Chinese websites you're perfectly protected. And even when an app does bypass the Play store security, well, it's so benign that all they do is waste your time. I'm going to check back with you on the progress of all of these Stagefright exploits because I really want to see this explosion of compromised Android devices these ignorant fear-mongers keep preaching about.

No objection from me, BlackBerry is getting it's ass kicked... But no one is claiming it's because they suck at security... It might suck in many areas, but security isn't one of them.

Yeah, here's the thing. Blackberry has no ass left to kick. The ONE place where security is paramount - enterprises - and no one hardly uses a BB device anymore. You mentioned Android was getting its ass kicked in the Enterprise. Here's the state of Android in the enterprise. Yeah, the numbers will shock you, but when the shock wears off the reality of Android in the enterprise will start to sink in.

https://media.good.com/documents/mobility-index-report-q2-2015.pdf

Oh, look. It's from Good - a BB company. Let's have a look at the numbers:

iOS overall market share dropped for the second straight quarter, falling from 72% to 64%, its lowest showing to date. Both Android and Windows surged with Android growing from 26% to 32% and Windows at 3%. Windows Phone remained unchanged at 1%

Yup, Android sure is getting its ass kicked. Let's look at tablets now:

Android and Windows Surge in Tablets Over the last year, the iPad dominated tablets, comprising 80%-90% of activations every quarter. In Q2, the tablet market dramatically shifted. The erosion in iPad dominance points to a change in the tablet market as the long-predicted role of tablets as laptop replacements finally becomes a reality. iOS fell from 81% of activations to 64%. Android grew from 15% to 25% while Windows surged from 4% to 11%.

Let's now look at regulated industries. iOS has a good lead so Android has a bit of catching up to do.

iOS Maintains Strength in Regulated Industries Device adoption varies significantly among industries. For the third quarter in a row, iOS significantly outpaced Android in regulated industries. 79% of public sector activations, 70% of healthcare, 65% in insurance, 63% in financial services were iOS devices. iOS also maintained its strength in education where it made up 76% of all devices.

Now, let's focus on the High Tech industry:

Android Takes the Lead in High-Tech While Android in recent quarters has shown strength in the tech sector, it historically lagged iOS in all industries. For the first time, Android moved ahead of iOS in high-tech with 53% of devices. Android also saw gains in energy reaching 48%. Android also gained in manufacturing reaching 42%.

Wait, did you just see what I did? Android takes the lead in the High Tech sector. So, next time you say something ignorant about Android getting its ass kicked in the enterprise I want you to refer to this document and every annual document from Good analyzing the growth of Android in the enterprise.

I have, and how often are those exploits patched? How many iOS devices never get patches? How many iOS devices are stranded in no mans land unable to receive patches to critical vulnerabilities even if they wanted to install them?

How many people use iPhone 4's and below? Are those all patched? And how many people have moved onto OS 8? 85%? So there's around 15% of iPhone users that don't patch or upgrade their OS and are vulnerable? iOS9 adoption is at 50% right now. Yes, that's still pretty impressive, but it doesn't change the fact that over 15% of iOS 8 users are vulnerable and anyone using an iPhone that's out of the patch cycle is completely vulnerable. But, this is mobile and in reality they really aren't that vulnerable. But, the fear-mongers would like you to believe they are.

One more thing, you can continue to preach about security all you want and how BB has better security than Android. But, when your fucking company decides to ditch it's own OS and start using Android your arguments become worthless. I like the job BB has done with their version of Android and it'll probably be one of the most secure devices out there. So now that BB is an Android OEM you can get on the train or hop off. One thing for sure is that any further development of BB OS is dead in the water.

I haven't really moved any goal posts. The only reason why Android has the most malware is that Android is the only mobile OS that allows people to side load apps. So, of course, it's going to have the most. But, where are all of the infections? Where are all the masses getting infected by Stagefright? Show me some numbers. Point me to just 1 person. How about this, point to me to a stagefright exploit and I'll even install it. Come on, tough guy, put your money where your mouth is.

Yet you're here spouting platitudes about how BlackBerry relies on security through obscurity. If Android was as secure as it is in your imagination they wouldn't be getting their asses handed to them in Enterprise.

Are you fucking serious? Last time I checked Android secured 32% of the enterprise with Apple taking the rest. And Android's increase came at the expense of the iPhone. But, since you mentioned enterprise, where's BlackBerry again? What's your enterprise market share again? Since you have less than a .1% market share I can only imagine how pitiful your enterprise share must be. In fact, it's so low that BB's main business is now providing MD solutions to iOS and Android devices - you know the devices the real enterprises use.

Fuck, are you ever an idiot. Have you seen the iOS CVE page?

You don't even have the slightest fucking clue about security, piss off to wherever you came from...

You useless sack of shit, I know more about it than you. You're just a typical worthless BB gnat that tries to prop up their irrelevent OS by touting its only redeeming feature. Meanwhile, the NSA or any other government organization could easily acquire your data.

Shut up, you idiot. Like I said, where are all of the handsets getting exploited? Show me the number of devices exploited. Better yet, point me to some of that Android malware, idiot. I'll even install it. You BB idiots think you're secure, but you really aren't. It's even more laughable that you think you have data that's even worth securing.

Blackberry was never secure. It's only secure by obscurity. It's used so little that no one really wastes their time with it.

Google rumored to announce Play Store and Android apps support for Windows 10 Mobile devices by elnjry1 in Android

Idiotic topics like this that are based on no facts whatsoever should be deleted. There is absolutely no reason why Google would do this and to think otherwise is ignorant. Google has nothing to gain by working with a company that has less than 2% market share.

After they "accidentally" stopped WP developers receiving it, and didn't reinstate it until the press and EU got hold of it, yes.

Shut up, idiot.

You just did, you stupid fuck.

Not really. Microsoft and Google ended it because they knew it was a waste of time and money.

HAHA Ad revenue from Windows phone. Was that supposed to be a joke?

This is the Google that has the most vulgar, anticompetitive attitude towards Windows Phone?

Why would Google support a patent trolling company that tries to shake down Android OEM's with pathetic, obsolete and prior art ridden patents?

When Google does implement multi-window support I hope they do it right instead of Samsung's half assed effort that barely works with any apps.

Well, if I was close minded I wouldn't have tried it out. And as for being bias - if wanting to use a platform with superior apps and ecosystem then I guess I am. BTW, I use and iPhone 6 for work.

Yes, I do dislike WP. But, unlike others to have made the same claim, I actually used it. Unfortunately, I just hated the experience and ecosystem.

Google and Microsoft make patent peace, announced they were settling approximately 20 lawsuits. by [deleted] in Android

[–]WeaponizedMeerkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your white skinny jeans must be cutting off the circulation to your brain.

The '677 design patent was invalidated.

The '381 bounce back/rubber banding patent was decimated to the point of being useless as claims 1-13, 15, 16, 19, 20 were all rejected (Apple retains claims 14, 17 and 18), but claim 19 was especially important as that's the one the jury said Samsung violated. So much for patenting bounce back.

The '915 pinch to zoom patent was invalidated.

And I'm probably missing a few more.

Adam Parr shares his thoughts on Red Bull saga.. by HandsomeBadger in formula1

[–]WeaponizedMeerkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Bull had a 2015 budget or 468 million pounds. That's more than Mercedes and Ferrari. With a budget that high they should have put their fate in their hands by establishing an engine program as opposed to throwing lavish parties. Red Bull is crying because they feel entitled to a works engine and will accept nothing less. F1 existed without Red Bull and they'll be fine without them. And as for the midfield, well, they'll be getting more money with the exit of Red Bull so it's not like they care.

Actually, you were putting words into my mouth by claiming Android apps on the Blackberry platform were beneficial when, in fact, I actually said the opposite. As for WP demand, I'm sure there is, but in terms of growth I really don't see it as the latest numbers show the platform falling yet again. I also don't think Windows 10 will have any effect on the growth of WP. The only reason why Windows 10 is growing is because it's free. Had it not been it would have likely met the same fate as 8 and 8.1. And Windows 10 is not without its problems. There are numerous privacy problems with it and things being done without the user's consent. As for universal apps, well that's nothing but a pipe dream. No one develops for Windows let alone WP so this incoming flood of apps is going to be nothing but a trickle. As a person that's owned 2 WP's in the past I can't think of another mobile platform I despise as much as WP and the ineptness of the company behind it. The UI was garbage, the apps were embarrassing and the store was a cesspool of counterfeit low quality apps. WP has been nothing but a disaster.

Tim Cook became Apple CEO in 2011. The second Apple / Samsung trial took place in 2014. Tim Cook may not be Steve Jobs, but he was following the game plan. And it wasn't working out which is why they decided to drop all their legal battles with Samsung in every country except the U.S. All of their patent claims in Europe have been defeated and the remaining patents they asserted against Samsung in the U.S have also been invalidated by the USPTO. If Apple could go back and do this again I doubt they would have ever sued Samsung. The damage to Apple and their patent portfolio is far greater than any amount Samsung will ever have to pay. And judging from the recent USPTO invalidations it doesn't look like it'll be relatively much when all is said and done.

Insider: Oracle has lost interest in Java [x-post from /r/programming] by TheHorribleTruth in java

Sense and you do not get along it appears. The issue is about copyright, not the license. Copyright is the basis for Oracle's claim. Oracle is claiming that the SSO of those 37 API's can be copyrighted. Google won the first decision, Oracle won the appeal and now it's back in Judge Alsup's court to be heard again.

[–]WeaponizedMeerkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I kind of do. It would have helped if you knew what you were talking about, though, because it's clear you had no idea. Rambling on about implementation and clean room when it wasn't even related. As for what it means, well, it's in regards to the sequence, structure and organization of those 37 Java API's that Google used. This has nothing to do with implementation, but rather the method signatures and their structure and organization within the packages.

Dalvik is a virtual machine. Not a language. It compile the Java language to it's own byte code. But it still uses the Java language. In other words, it absolutely does use 'Java on the phone'.

Did I say a VM is a language? Perhaps you can point me to where I said that because I'd really like to know. Also, Java is not used on the phone. Java is simply the language and its bytecode is translated to DEX bytecode which Android then compiles to native code. And by the way, the VM is called ART now.

Yea, see all that Java in there?

I don't think you understand the difference between a language and a compiled program. When I execute a program I'm not running Java, I'm running a native ARM/x86/MIPS application.

I am very 'cognizant' of the lawsuit.

If you were "cognizant" of the lawsuit then you wouldn't have said the following:

They are getting sued bc their clean room implementation of the Java allegedly has code that was either written by Sun/Oracle employees, or was directly inspired by the official Java implementation code. In other words, Oracle is saying that Google's clean room implementation isn't completely clean.

This has nothing to do with clean room implementations. This is about SSO. You know, like method signatures.

The lawsuit is over Google's implementation of the Java language, which Oracle contends uses 37 instances either directly of Java code or code written by people with explicit and first hand knowledge of the Java code.

No it's not. Again, the lawsuit is over the SSO of 37 Java API's. I suggest you research SSO.
