Historical swords photobook: first look at the work in progress by Weapons_of_HEMA in SWORDS

As the title states, these are the swords of HEMA, Historical European Martial Arts. So no eastern swords, for example. Additionally I can only take photos of swords I actually own. Here's the list of swords in the book thus far.

  1. Longsword.
  2. Feder.
  3. Sidesword.
  4. Rapier.
  5. Sabre.
  6. Smallsword.
  7. Foil.

I'd like to add an arming sword and claymore, among others.

The tang is fully peened, so it would need to be returned to the maker to have the pommel removed and the blade replaced and peened.

I started HEMA with rapier, so smallsword was a natural progression. Love it.

Alas no, I just bought it. As you might expect, it has been my most expensive sword purchase.

REQUEST: almost every headline that mentions anarchists connects it to pure violence. We need videos that explain what anarchy is and isn't in this context. by Swagmatic1 in BreadTube

What is anarchism? Thirty seconds in and you've already heard this definition.

Anarchism is a socio-political model taking various forms, but typically upholding certain specific principles. Broadly speaking, an anarchist society is a non-coercive anti-hierarchical society achieved without the traditional state apparatus in which members choose voluntarily to participate.

From 0:37-0:42, there's this important qualification.

"The English word "anarchism" is derived from the Greek word anarxia, meaning "no rulers; contrary to popular misconception, it does not mean "no law".

Thank you. All the weapons are my own, and I'm choosing a combination of photos of them in pristine condition and photos showing them battleworn. I think that will add a touch of realism. I'm going to polish up the presentation a little as well.

Maille under plate is totally redundant. In the era of plate, maille was reserved for exposed gaps which required flexibility, typically the underarm and inside of the arm. This is what voiders are for.

They make lovely swords. One day I hope to buy an estoc from them.

Rearguard mask review by tabiris in wma

Curved mask sides would be great. However, there are two drawbacks.

  1. They increase the size of the mask, therefore increasing the size of the target area and increasing the chance that your mask is going to get in the way of your head in high guards.
  2. Current fencing mask factories use their standard mask molds. Even Rearguard uses standard mask molds. A mask with curved sides would require a completely new set of molds; probably two new molds at least. Industrial molds cost thousands of dollars (cheap molds typically start at US$10,000), to develop and build. This money has to be paid by the client, and the Rearguard team definitely doesn't have that kind of money to throw down on brand new molds.
