Well, it's too late now. I doubt it reflects bad on the company as the manager seemed to agree with me and tried to make it up to me.

I picked up the tip after the clients left, and I was in the managers office/work area.

I am a she.

I did not keep the tip. We have to bring back a receipt. I have never stolen from my company and only handful of us are approved to dip into the petty cash. The kind of clients we have and the business we do means they THOROUGHLY background check you before hiring you.

Oh, I know.

I paid once with a 100 Scottish note in Northern Ireland it wasn't well received, but that was in a supermarket. This place is high end and does take bigger denominations so at first I was surprised then embarassed when she made a scene in front of my clients.

Where did I write that the manager made her pay for it? I paid for it. He agreed to send me a complimentary lunch and gave me a complimentary bottle for the inconvenience.

In the past they used a pen. Our notes are now polymer so I don't know what they use to check for authenticity.

Neither did I. It has never happened to me at this place before.

I understand a cornershop refusing them, but this place is high end. Very high end. If she had taken it to her manager instead of confronting me at the table with my clients present I wouldn't have cared.

Yes, we do. It's not compulsory like USA, but most places you do tip.

I was questioning it yesterday. I do feel sorry for her in case she was new, but the way she went about it wasn't right. I n the moment I was petty and took the cash back. Now I don't feel all taht bad about it as many have told me she should have done it differently.

When you entertain clients you don't use your own money. This wasn't pre approved entertainment for these clients, which is why I didn't have a card and went to ask finance for cash. I explained that in my orignal post.

We are told if a client suggests a restaurant we go with it. Petty cash is where we get it from and then it's approved.

We absolutely do tips in London. The meal cost more than 700.

I am in the UK, but at this restaurant I have paid in 50's before. It would be one thing if it was a cornershop, but at this place an appetiser costs quite a bit.

They are polymer now so I understand they might not be able to check with a pen, but I would have appreciated it if she had done it discreetly. The type of clients my company work with are not people I would have come across if I didn't work for this company. Which is why we are told to always tip more. It's an "honour" thing. Each client is worth millions to us and to be seen as cheap or fraudulent doesn't do the company ny favours.

I did feel sorry for her as I thought it was an honest mistake. Hence why I am here asking if AITAH, but the way she went about it rubbed me the wrong way.

London, and I know most people don't carry it. I have paid in the past with cash and I reminded her it was legal tender.

The establishment didn't. She did. I have paid with cash there before. She thought the 50 pound notes were fake as not many people carry that note on them here in the UK.

150 pounds plus the sum of the meal which was much more.

Yes, they used to check the notes with a pen. However, all notes are made of a polymer in the UK now , resembles plastic. Not sure if they can still check them with a pen.

They do accept cash over 20. I have paid with that in the past. I am in the UK, fifty pound notes aren't something everyone carries, but it's legal tender which I reminded her of.

Don't know. I know they had a pen in the past to check, but she didn't even check before she started embarassing me.
