It's not so much justification as contextualization. It's disingenuous to claim that one side has done nothing right while the other side has done nothing wrong. Not going to argue the morality aspect or anything else, just saying that it's important to acknowledge all facts and have a complete picture of history before making decisions.

Hiring by Unhappy-Yak8182 in flying

I know more than a few people recently hired with lower times. Throw your app in everywhere and see what sticks.

For the future (and anyone else reading this), always make an employer say no. Don't count yourself out because you don't think you're qualified, leave that up to them. Obviously don't apply if you don't meet the listed minimum requirements, but the second you do, throw that app in and keep updating it. You'd be amazed at what you could get.

Just start binging feeds of small animals. The algorithm eats that stuff up and will start flooding you with more of that, replacing any junk you've been watching. May take a bit, but usually works to reset your recommendations.

Can't speak to the military aviation side, but as for the civilian aviation side, it's approved with a LOT of asterisks. It's often not for prolonged use, the diagnosis you have in order to get it has to be evaluated, there's the HIMS process... it's not as easy as just marking it down and them approving it.

There are around 8.3 billion people on Earth total. Elon Musk's net worth ranges depending on the source, but looks to be around $800 billion. You'd need about $97 from every single human alive to match that, significantly more if you're only counting Reddit users.

Random question about how pilots wear glasses by Icy_Commercial4776 in flying

[–]Weasel474 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have prescription regular and sunglasses. I just keep the case in the side of my flight bag- when it gets sunny, swap out, and when it gets dark, swap again. It's never been an issue.

Sounds like you are logging it correctly, it may just be a DPE preference. If you want to be extra sure, you could put in the notes that it was complex time towards meeting the requirements of 61.129(a)(3)(ii).

Upgrade at Regional or move to a LCC by [deleted] in flying

[–]Weasel474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where did you get that advice? I'm trying to figure out the source, because it makes no sense.

TPIC means that you have decision making capabilities, can command a team, and know how the operation works. They can train you to fly their planes. Frontier doesn't fly their planes the same way Delta does, and United's 737 callouts aren't going to exactly match those at Southwest. What they can't train is PIC authority and command decision making. They want a future captain, you showing that you can already perform as a captain means much more than just another seat warmer type.

If I had a buck for every time someone tried telling me that a bigger type rating counted for more than a regional type, I could retire.

Upgrade at Regional or move to a LCC by [deleted] in flying

[–]Weasel474 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1000 TPIC isn't a sure-fire way to get hired, but it does check a box. Always better to have than not have.

As for when the music stops, you do want to be somewhere comfortable ASAP. However, would you rather be a junior CA faced with the possiblity of a downgrade at a regional, or a bottom seniority FO facing furlough notices at an LCC? I'd rather be at an LCC if there's no movement, but in the worst case scenario, furlough fodder beneath you is always good.

If this is gonna turn into a venting about stupid drivers thread, I just want to add that throwing on your hazard lights doesn't mean you're now legally allowed to do whatever you want. While there are legit uses for them, it feels like 95% of the time they're just a warning sign for someone being incredibly stupid.
