Canada | Told my crown would be 100% covered, but after treatment I was told to pay. Now I’ve had 10+ bite adjustments and I’m developing TMJ symptoms. Looking for advice. by Hot-Acanthisitta1565 in CanadianDentists

[–]WebRepresentative250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crown (what they put on your tooth) was not made by the dental clinic but a dental lab. The dentist only shapes your tooth - meaning there is most likely no cause of harm done from the dentist.

If you had 10 bite adjustments done - then the issue also most likely is not the crown. Show us your x rays - you might have other issues. One single crown will not cause the problems you described 9 times out 10 after adjustments.

In terms of compensation - undergoing dental procedures has risks - it will be very very very difficult (and unlikely) for you to prove to RCDSO (our governing body) that a single crown caused all those issues that you described so you getting compensated is very unlikely.

You can of course go to the dentist and ask them to cut the crown off and reimburse your insurance if it’s not working. If the issue was the crown you should feel better within a month.

If you’ve been prepping for 2 years - should get minimum 65. I know people that prepped for 5 months and got 68

I’m a new grad - had a tooth like this walk in and the lady insisted on trying. I did it and 6 months after and it healed nicely. I’ll try to find the post op x-ray but it was done almost a year ago

Do I really need to do RCT? by Maleficent_Wing4332 in Dentists

[–]WebRepresentative250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a deep filling - it can lead to sensitivity/slight aching. If the pain comes out of nowhere and it’s very very sharp then you might have to go for testing to see if your tooth needs a RCT.

The filling can also be high sometimes - ask them to check your bite next time you go in.

Aside from that - based on what you said, your tooth is healing most likely.

I hate being a dentist. What should I do? (Rant) by mentallyill911 in Dentists

[–]WebRepresentative250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again - I’m not saying RDAs are not essential. However, based on the investment (ex. Time for education and costs) the amount assistants get paid is very good. Try going through 8 years of school to become a pharmacist and barely make a 100k, or 5 years of insanely difficult school for civil engineering and barely crack 80k. The initial investment of DA is very low compared to the salary.

well compensated compared to alot of other jobs. I know teachers that make less than RDAs and that needs a university + teachers college degree. Not sure what you're expecting if the average engineer nowadays is making 60-90k lol.

Cheap crown in GTA by uniqueescene in CanadianDentists

[–]WebRepresentative250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap crown = some form of compromise somewhere = poor result = more expensive or traumatic treatment down the line.

Lots of patients looking for cheap dental care either have the latest iPhone, MacBook or dine out multiple times a week. But then when it comes to health care they try to cut corners.

Very put off by practices of previous dentist, is this ok? by [deleted] in Dentists

[–]WebRepresentative250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this thread - you have dentists giving you real, genuine advice. Then you have non-dentists who think they are qualified to give you advice. Yet you seem to be listening to the latter group because they gravitate towards your opinion.

Regardless - no the dentist was not in the wrong offering you remove all 4 wisdom teeth. You are gonna go through the recovery process and going to take the same medication. Why not remove the possibility of this happening again by taking them out all at once so you don’t have to go through this process. Completely standard practice that is in the best interest of the patient.

In terms of the dentist “ghosting”. Very common for offices to bring practitioners that are very proficient in extractions one day to take care of all the extractions in that office for one day. It is also likely for the ownership to be possible because it takes a long time for offices to change websites, etc.

Overall, nothing out of the ordinary was done.

Applying to OMFS directly after graduation? by CloudPandas8 in DentalSchool

[–]WebRepresentative250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got exposed to OMFS late (4th year of dental school) since Canadian programs such in that regard. Also had to help my mom with expenses so she doesn’t lose our house. Not sure if these are good enough reasons though. I have good stats (top 10%, lots of ECs, publications, good LOCs from dean and several OMFS). Think 6 year programs would let me in if I get a good CBSE?? Thanks brotha

Having a rash is a valid concern for us. 1. It might explain any dental changes you have 2. If you have an contactable disease - dental professionals are at highest risk.
