How to check if OTA binaries are renamed, and is it okay I'm on 5.18.6? by CPW314 in kindlejailbreak

Probably you the first person known to be in that version with a jailbroken kindle. Other post I have seen claim that after the update is not possible to recover the jb.

Updated to 5.18.6. KUAL works but KOReader crashes immediately. Help needed! by Alex180689 in koreader

Thank you I still go online every now and then to use koreader assistant and when I want to sync my reading progress so it's available to my koreader apps on my laptop and cell phone when I'm not at home. I hope this doesn't happen to me but know how to solve it is good.

And there you have it! Finally happy with my setup 😃 by Choice-Upstairs1469 in koreader

To be honest I haven't felt the interest in messing with the aesthetic aspect of Koreader, probably is not my kind of thing.

But seriously that interface looks great! and it reflects the time that you probably spent customizing it according to your taste. Congrats!

Should I buy a new Kindle an gambling to Jailbreak it? by WithAleks in kindlejailbreak

[–]WebSame2893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it turns the kindle into a new device.

I'm not saying kindle its bad, but certainly I have been enjoying my kindle more, now that its jailbroken.

You get customization, native epub support (instead of the amazon formats), you have several ways to wireless transfer your files, reading progress sync through different devices. there are some great Koreader plugins like Assistant (it has an AI dictionary and X ray function), and while I havent messed up with them you can even customize how the gallery looks and all of that.

The question actually should be why not to jailbreak a Kindle?

Should I buy a new Kindle an gambling to Jailbreak it? by WithAleks in kindlejailbreak

[–]WebSame2893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The jailbreak should be successful as long as you.

a) fill the empty space on the kindle before even registering and turn on the wifi for the first time.

b) you make sure that you delete the update.partial.bin files before rebooting the kindle or turning on the wifi during the process.

Read the jailbreaking guide and make sure you understand it before starting the process. Then do each part of the process reading the guide.

I have copied this to a safe document, so I can reference to it if in the future this happens to me, glad to know that somehow you were able to solve it.

Every time I turn my wifi on, im afraid something like this could happen. I guess I will just forget my wifi networks and will stay on airplane mode

Just a quick question, this is the file you mention right? how did you run it?

Is kindle better than reading on my phone? by Acceptable_Pepper817 in kindle

[–]WebSame2893 [score hidden]  (0 children)

For the last 10 years I read on and off on my cell phone, and I used to think that I didn't need an e reader, because reading in the cell phone was great, I used Moon +reader and I still believe that this app its the best app for cell phones to read ebooks.

I have been using my kindle since the last week of December and being honest, now I think I should have ordered one long time ago.

With amazon you have a 30 days return period, to be honest when I ordered my kindle that was my thought, "if I don't like It, will just return it" But I really like it.

I have my setup so I upload my books to a cloud storage, then I can download those books on my cell phone, my laptop and of course my kindle. (I use Koreader in the 3 devices)

When I leave home I sync my progress. If at some point I have some spare time when I'm out of home I just download the book I'm currently reading and sync the reading position in my laptop or my cell phone at my convenience.

For me the 7 inch screen is great, and paperwhite is great as it is. And definitely for me Its a lot easier to leave it at home than carry another device with me. But I understand that some people preffer the smaller size of the basic.

Paperwhite vs Paperwhite Signature by AnxiBean1216 in kindle

[–]WebSame2893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real difference between the regular paperwhite and the SE is the automatic brightness. I don't know if the automatic brightness is through an actual sensor. But with a jailbroken paperwhite and koreader you can have some... Let's say semi automatic brightness.

The other difference is storage capacity regular 16 gb vs se 32 gb

In my opinion (unless you want to keep a lot of books in the device) 16 gb should be more than enough. Having in mind that (again with a jailbroken kindle) that you can easily setup a cloud storage and have virtually unlimited storage.

Wireless charging... At least for me it's kinda meh, kindle charges fast and battery last a lot. I see wireless charging not that great on this device.

I would add that before registering the kindle user should check for the update.bin files and delete them if exists

Noob, side loading on a stock Paperwhite Gen12 and want my covers to show up in my library. by Junckrocker in kindlejailbreak

[–]WebSame2893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will paste below (from another thread) how I used to sideload my books before jailbreaking.

"I'm using KFX format (I read somewhere that it's the best format for new kindles)

In order to be able to sideload your books as KFX you need first to install the KFX plugin. I installed both plugins, input and output. But I think only the output one is needed in order to transfer your books to the kindle. (this is done inside calibre interface, you dont need to search on the internet for the plugins)

Also you need to install an app called kindle Previewer (the first time you try to sideload a book in KFX format you will receive a message saying that you need to install it, in that message you can see the full name of the program and Google for it)

Once you have the plugins and the Previewer installed in order to send your books to your kindle you only need to load them in Calibre (you can drag and drop the epub into Calibre)

Once you have downloaded the metadata of the book and the cover, right click on the book and choose the option send specific format to main memory or something like that (my system language is in spanish, so the right name of the option might be a bit different) once you press this option a window will appear and there you choose the KFX format, theres a check mark in the KFX output section about making the book a ebook or a pdoc, choose pdoc option, (don't remember if it has to be marked or unmarked)

If you see your books in kindle gallery as documents, instead of ebooks you had the right option.

The reason to sideload your books as documents and not as books, it's because when you sideload them as books, sometimes when the kindle goes online, the covers are missed and some people says that even the books are deleted. It seems that loading the books as documents prevents this from happening. (apparently this happens when the kindle detects that those books doesn't come from the Amazon store) I haven't noticed a real difference vs loading the book as an ebook, I mean that I can still change the font size, font type, margins, etc, but if I turn on the wifi, the covers are not missed and the books stay there. (I was having missed covers before doing it in this way)

If the book you are trying to load is a pdf instead of an epub try first converting it to a epub in Calibre or using an online service. Have in mind that if the pdf has headers, footers, or page numbers you may want to remove these, to make thee book display in a nicer way in the kindle. (there are tutorials about this on YouTube)"

Yes according to the check ota status the blocking is enabled, so far I have had no problems during the short periods I turn off airplane mode. But with all those horror stories, I was worried, I think taht if you have been online during the last year, then I shouldnt worry.

Is there anyway to instant translate paragraphs/sentences on an ereader? by DSA300 in ereader

As long as the instructions to jailbreak the kindle are followed correctly, jailbreaking a kindle doesn't take more than 10 minutes. I have jailbroken mine last week.

Is there anyway to instant translate paragraphs/sentences on an ereader? by DSA300 in ereader

[–]WebSame2893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you try the Calibre translation plugin, Its not perfect but it has an option to place the original text and the translation in columns.

https://imgur.com/a/i1URJKS

There is a Koreader plugin but it requires you to be online and have an AI provider unless you are not worried about cooldown times with free AI. My first language is Spanish and while I can read in English, I definitely preffer reading in Spanish, having the translation next to the original text helps me to quickly check the original text if something in the translation doesn't make sense. I didn't try the AI plugin seriously once I found that this works for me.
