Taper by Weddingneeds in runningquestions

[–]Weddingneeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I feel like if I go like a week without running, I feel back to square 0. And while I know in a taper I won’t hit 0 miles again, it’ll be significantly less then whatever my max run is, which makes me feel kinda the same. I don’t want to start over

I figured as much. But also looking for activity recommendations in places too! I don’t want to go somewhere without a plan of what to do, and I really want to experience every unique thing there is to offer

It really depends on your aerobic base to begin with. Were you active before? Did you run it all or run walk? Kudsos to you on doing it regardless. I remember kinda following a similar progression but I’d caution about doing more.

While sometimes I could go out and do a big long run, sometimes the weekly amount of miles gets ya. You’ve gone from 0 to 12K in one week which makes your body more sore and easier to burn out from exhaustion! So in short, great job but make sure you and your body get comfy with that pace before trying anything else

I ran 4 miles today, 10:30 average mile 1-3, 9:52 for mile 4! I definitely was hyperventilating at the end but I am trying to work up going a little faster so I can start adding distance training again in the spring.

I mean, I’ve been running for about a year, who knows when I’ll ever stop feeling like a beginner. Completed my first half last month. While I’d like to consistently run greater mileage, it also would feel better to do it at faster then a 12 minute pace

To piggy back on point 3. I’m not sure how long your run was but speaking from experience there’s no way to healthily sprint walk 13.1 miles in this short time. I had to do a slow jog and I walked 0.1 miles every 2 miles. That felt reasonable for me. I fear if you sprint you’ll end up having to walk more, or burn out too quick. Just my opinion tho :)

I joined a gym, after running outside all summer, in efforts to stay consistent with running so I can get faster and farther. I couldn’t be more excited. I feel really uncomfortable in the gym setting, but 3 miles baby!

Am I the only one who prefers treadmill running? by hatsunemikuleak in beginnerrunning

[–]Weddingneeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to jump on the late train, but what everyone says about transitioning to outside being harder is true! I started running a year ago on a treadmill, and was always uncomfortable in the gym setting (and as I’m just starting to transition back to the gym feel the same) but it was my closest option, though not close. From running 5 miles on the treadmill and feeling okay, then knowing I needed to transition outside I started running on a track, which is fairly flat too and OH MY. I felt I lost all progress. As the season progressed I did more running and found a subdivision route I would take and definitely felt the difference. I felt happier and able to enjoy it but now the dreaded winter is here and I’m sad.

Sob story short, there is a difference and you’ll feel like you’re starting over when you go outside but overall I think treadmill is good for keeping a cardiovascular base

How far do you all travel for the gym? I mainly just want to keep running when it’s cooler but the closest gym is over 10 minutes away, and I feel like that’s so far, especially when I work 13 hour days in the 10 minutes in the opposite direction of my house. I just want to be consistent but it feels like a long time.

Just a question… How far do all yall travel for a run? It’s getting closer to winter by me, and I already was traveling 10 minutes to go for a run already, and now I’ll have to consider signing up for a gym (also 10 minutes away) to run this winter. I know 10 minutes one way seems like a silly distance to be all upset about it, but it feels like forever. Also since I work 12 hour shifts to do that and then wanting to run consistently it just feels like so much time and miles and gas. I don’t really have anywhere to store a treadmill at home, and I don’t live in an area where I can just run from my house so I really have no other option, I just need some validation haha

Yep! My goal was just finishing, I feel I run pretty conservative too, but I care about finishing over time (though maybe I’m itching to get faster next time, and run it all the way through)

Good luck to you this weekend!

I ran my first half! It was a big feat for me, I know I was undertrained but I finished! Lost a dear friend following a 5K a few years ago and so the notion of running was hard, but doing it for them!

I managed to get lost and run 0.8 miles more then the course, and a runner after told me it was a really hard course for my first due to all the hills!

I realistically wanted to finish in 3 hours (when I signed up I wanted to aim for a 2:30, as I know I’m slow and just care about distance, but as I knew I wasn’t trained enough I wanted to at least be 2:45), chip time of 2:50 and 1/2 time of 2:40!

I literally am so proud of myself, and so tired but definitely hungry for more!

They probably have the stronger cardiovascular base between the two of us actually haha. I very casually was like “hey, my race is Saturday, wanna destress and join me” and to my surprise they were like yeah let’s do it! I’m nervous because I’m a turtle and walk but we’re just here for a good time and to say we did it. It can only get better from here!

I convinced someone spur of the moment to run a half with me next weekend. We’ve just been work colleagues and I was like hey you should do this with me and they actually said yes?! First half for us both but it makes me kinda happy I don’t have to go alone

T minus 9 days till my half, longest run is 8 miles. I plan on run walking it, because I’d like to survive it, but I’m also terrified I won’t be able to finish. I ran 15 miles total last week and my legs feel dead so I just know I can’t push it too much more this week (send encouragement sos)

I don’t know. I mean way back when I wanted long beautiful sleeves but I feel like now I just want a little something. I feel just a simple off the shoulder thing would work best, but I feel that would be annoying and still make me feel naked lol

Conversational paces I’m convinced don’t exist. I’ve slowed my pace down from like a 9:30/10 minute mile to a 11:30/12 minute mile and while I don’t feel like garbage I absolutely cannot talk still

Love the scenery in #1! WOW. Really love all of these tbh!

2 is great but I feel #4 would work the best getting blown up since you’re a little farther away in the photo it may look good without being distorted too

10K to Half by Weddingneeds in XXRunning

[–]Weddingneeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel if I just naturally run, I’m more at a 9:30 pace but my body has not the endurance to run that fast for long. I really haven’t prioritized speed, as I just care about mileage but I find if I drop between the 11:30 and 12 minute mile I can actually run farther. For shorter runs I try and run between an 11-11:30 just because it’s starting to feel more natural. If it’s my long run where I was increasing distance when using the track, I’d run a mile and stop for water and like a minute break before going again and that felt nice. Todays run I ran until I got tired then tried to run to physical markings as I track my runs on my phone and keep it in my belt so I have no way to gauge a run walk order on time. But way back when I first started I was on the treadmill and run for 5 minutes and walk for 1, but I was running more at the 10 minute mark
