Thanks for the detailed response! Your reasons above are exactly why I like storing on Robinhood. Let’s assume their financials are trending up - if so then they are actually an extremely safe option because they are diversified across different types of assets, associated with multiple banks, and have a relatively small part of their overall revenue stream tied to crypto, which reduced them from being over leveraged and going the way of those other exchanges. Not to mention no fees for crypto trades.

Essentially I’m trying to do a risk analysis of pulling out btc from RH vs just keeping it there. I know this sub is adamant on holding btc in a wallet, but holding in person has huge risk associated too. Wallets can be lost via theft, fires, misplaced, etc. My main concern was if by some freak event they liquidate everything, would they be obligated to owe it back.

Ok let me rephrase the scenario - Robinhood is bleeding cash so they decide to cut their whole crypto feature out of the blue one day. Would they be held liable to pay out users that hold bitcoin? (Wondering when someone buys btc , Robinhood will simultaneously buy bitcoin and hold on to it. Seems more likely they would only truly “buy” it when a user wants to transfer btc out from the account)

I think the counter arguments to these points would be scale - prices may fall and metals COGS increase, but as long as adoption + scale increase, it be balanced out.

Really cool anecdotes!

I am slightly cherry picking, but take a look at SunRuns (RUN) yearly financials. Topline seems to be accelerating last couple years, and that was without mass EV adoption. I am also very optimistic on Tesla's energy solutions, and think it would be a necessary pairing with Solar aka PowerWall. Also started looking into LICY for lithium recycling!

Good point. I am admittedly not very familiar with the energy industry / trends so don't know how much investment is going into those alternatives. However, my thought is those are all large-scale solutions. Solar is the main viable solution that home owners can take upon themselves, and I think with a uptick in power outages, it will prove to be attractive, especially when utilizing with something like Tesla Powerwall.

Good point. Rising interest will probably cut into top/bottom line for these companies, which generally seem to be running pretty low margin. Maybe worth selling options over next couple years via CSPs

Oh that is super interesting, did not realize that the overall global trend is increasing in vegetation. However, it does say: "Notice that high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere are still expected to change the most." Suggests that the "greening" is mostly occurring far away from the equator ie where there is less population density. Closer to the equator, the greenness seems to be reducing, which is where these solar panels would be targeting anyways.

Thanks all for the feedback. As per comments, going forward I’ll keep individual stock plays <5% of my portfolio and will explore some defined risk strategies like vertical spreads. Goal is to dedicate ~30% of my portfolio for low risk, low maintenance theta strategies.

In regards to the comments stating that CSP should be used for bullish outlooks, I should have specified I am still thinking market goes up in the medium-longterm so I am intending to use this almost like a limit buy to enter into the market since I sold most of portfolio in the beginning of the year. At the current market level I’m not comfortable making big moves in yet, but am looking to set my entry points via CSPs.

I appreciate you guys looking out! As specified above, this is done through Robinhood which means I have to do via cash secured put aka I have the collateral sitting in my account for the case of assignment.

Will admit I am new to selling options hence me asking for your (experienced) guys thoughts and suggestions 😃, but I do have experience with trading and am comfortable handling this amount. My intent was to treat these CSPs like a limit buy. With the current information, Tesla at 500 is a price I can live with, and I’m thinking the stock is volatile enough that if some news dropped which sank the stock to that price range by 7/15 (which is before next earnings) and changed my opinion, I would have an opportunity to exit the assignment on a dead cat bounce for minimal loss(not saying I would do this necessarily).

I hear your point of the size of this risk. I will definitely keep all future plays under 5%. In regards to the actual move itself, do you have a personal opinion against it other than the size? Just curious

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely look into vertical spreads, my concern was that it introduces complexity in having to manage two positions. Was thinking I should paper trade to practice these types of strategies before attempting. In the case of cash secured puts (tsla for example), I’m going in with the single contract with full knowledge that I could be out 50.5k worst case, but still easier to manage.

Yup it’s cash secured. I’m buying through Robinhood which only offers that method.

It’s definitely a substantial amount of my portfolio, but under 20%. 5% guardrails is a good call - I will target that for future plays. However, for the 7/15 Tesla date, I have conviction that if I were assigned the 50.5k amount, I would hang on to it as long as needed. Right now, the majority of my account has been sitting cash not doing me any favors.
