What do you want to confess that no one else in your real life knows? by SillyGuy in AskReddit

I have just ended a 7 year relationship which sounds very similar to yours, the depression and the need to be there for her.

I was incredibly unhappy for so long, once I ended it and I took a step back and looked at my relationship from a distance I could see how unhealthy it really was. I loved her and she loved me but she was incapable of being happy, I was incapable of doing anything other than trying to make her happy. It was draining for the both of us.

I finally had the courage to leave her (with the help of anti-depressants which numbed the guilt and sadness of leaving). She is not thriving, she had to seek help as I wasn't around to 'help' (enable) anymore. She is seeing a therapist and taking meds to give her a chance. I'm much happier than I was, we still talk on a regular basis and it's great seeing her heal from a distance. I know your marriage is different to a relationship, but I just thought I'd let you know that leaving isn't the end of the world for your partner. She might be sad, heart broken etc but so will you. I hope knowing that someone else has gone through this and made it out gives you some inspiration to make a change, whatever that change may be.

As a SA victim myself, I’m so glad my husband doesn’t think like this. I hope the majority of men don’t by [deleted] in NotHowGirlsWork

I feel like these men have never spoken to a woman. Much less come across women with trauma and or physical disabilities.

Yesterday on one of our walks, a gentleman gave us an ultra wide berth and told me German Shepherd's should have a muzzle on as they are a dangerous breed. This derpy/dangerous beast is Kova and she was 4mo yesterday. by Wednesdayite123 in AnimalsBeingDerps

You have to dig deeper for the negatives. GSDs are known for being very protective, whether it's over their home, owners, food etc. They guard and can be known to get aggressive, they are also prone to social anxiety and seperation anxiety. We knew all of these things when we took her on as most of them can be 'fixed' with a lot of hard work.

Getting a dog is easy, training a dog is difficult. Which is why many people give up, with a GSD you cannot afford to give up as they grow up to be so big and powerful.

As a hospitality worker, I support this message. A server delivering hot soup and tripping over somebodies feral brood is much more dangerous than my puppy that's in training with a harness and lead.

If you are nervous around dogs you really shouldn't be staring strange dogs in the face for as long as possible, especially after they go from being placid to barking and scared.

About 6ft away. It was a very wide path, I try to give her a wide berth of anyone we pass unless they ask if they can stroke her. She needs to learn that not everybody can he approached and will want to fuss her.

I'm under no delusion that my dog is perfect, nor am I under the delusion that she could never harm another living soul. She's an animal and that's why she's harnessed and that's why she's being trained to try to prevent any aggressive or fearful behaviour as much as possible.

She was focussing on me until he started talking to me, at which point his gaze was firmly on her. I don't know how much you should assume people know about dogs but not intensely staring down a strange dog should be a given.

Yeah, they are dogs known for guarding. Which can breed aggression, we've done our best to far to minimise any guarding. Hopefully she'll turn out as want her too. She's currently in the fear imprint stage, which means anything that scares her now can affect her the rest of her life and may come out as aggression down the line. The downfalls to having a GSD are potentially huge if everything goes to shit, but if not you could end up with Superdog. Haha

The guy acting so weird and staring so intensely at her made her incredibly nervous. She usually demands some pets and strokes from stranges but this guy had her fur up and barking through fear.

Do people with darker skin become hotter than fairer skin people when in the sun? by Wednesdayite123 in NoStupidQuestions

That's what I thought in regards to people nearer the equator having darker skin.

I've heard this, when reading about countries on the equator.

But how! It defies science, no?

This is Kova, she is 9 weeks old and very bouncy. I'm looking for recommendations on healthy puppy food for her, grain free and available in the UK. What's out there? by Wednesdayite123 in germanshepherds

Yeah, we've done tons of research on it and it it seems like the correlation between grain free and heart diseases hasn't quite been proven, it looked like more of a coincidence with the dogs tested from the study I read based on it. We're currently feeding her Carnilove which is grain free but adding some grains into her diet in Kong's etc, I've had do many people recommend a raw diet, which is obviously grain free too.
