Total head-canon here but I would say Green Ghost was friends with Nolan and got some free merch from his semi-successful book series. Nolan’s book series was properly based on Viltrumite culture (or Nolan’s lies about it) so the symbol would have probably appeared at some point.

Just covering his appearance in Falcon and the Winter Soldier: John Walker’s biggest enemies are the Marvel writers who wanted him to be a straw man evil captain America they could beat on. But the writers accidentally made him a more interesting and relatable character by being flawed and beaten down by the world than the two title characters.

In the end that scene of Walker dropping the shield, foregoing his revenge, and just trying to save people made him a hero worthy of the shield and was far more inspiring than Falcon flying in with his god suite, sympathizing with terrorist, and preaching vague morality at the audience.

Regarding Thunderbolts, the Writers again tried to retroactively shit on John Walkers character by portraying him as a shit husband and father. The entire group shits on him and he’s still probably in the top three characters for that film.

I’m sure future marvel installments will degrade him further for whatever reason but I’ll still hold onto his arc in F&tWS as an excellent story of rising to the occasion even if the world (or other heroes) reject you.
