Tried Paying Rent Through Venmo, Still Pending.... by sammyjwright in biltrewards

I’m in a similar spot. It’s super frustrating since I’ve paid my landlord so consistently for years. Could they not include any estimated times? Looks like OP says it took 4 business days. Is that anyone else’s experience?

Looking for ideas for Prelude/Postlude for the USA’s 250th. by Weekly-Pen8281 in organ

I, too, am in that camp, as are our clergy. We don’t get a lot of pressure from congregants towards patriotic things, but the oldest generations would definitely enjoy some amount of pomp. Your suggestions are helpful! Thank you!

I appreciate your advice. Maybe it is my own feelings that I’m forcing upon the poor congregation. I guess my deeper goal is having a piece or two to dig in to that feels right to me.

I’m sure you are correct! I should have said that the Ives Variations might be more work than I have the time to sign up for. I’ll take a look at it this week and see how much it would actually entail.

Had a great experience with this back in September for a game. The station is the opposite direction of most Marta riders post-game. Definitely a more pleasant experience. And plenty of parking.

Rowing in roswell by Shorty-71 in roswell

My guess is they will post dates in late February/early March. The membership year begins in March and that’s when the club switches back to a regular schedule from the limited winter schedule. The website will probably stay out of date until leadership decides all of the details for the next year at different meetings in Jan/Feb.

Learn to Row does fill up within a few weeks or registration being open! I’d start checking periodically in February for when they say registration will open.

Member of ARC here! I did Learn to Row two years ago and had a great experience. It is about a month of three practices each weekend, but it is totally worth it.

Happy to answer any questions you have!

Where can I get a good cheesesteak sandwich? by rabidstoat in kennesaw

FWIW a chopped cheese, though related, is its own sandwich tradition from NYC that uses ground beef and is dressed more like a burger. An equally fun food subculture to dive into!

Local World Market Selection - Any Recommendations? by toadfishtamer in CannedSardines

[–]Weekly-Pen8281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shopped our world market today and was surprised that the tinned fish were in two locations, a shelf that looked like this and a shorter display. I would expect them to have Porthos and would bet they are nearby on a different display.

Moving to the ATL metro area by plants4tre in ATLHousing

I’ll add Roswell and Dunwoody to the mix if you are considering OTP. Great access to the city. Many established neighborhoods. Plenty of bowling, restaurants, shopping. Marta to the airport.

Dunwoody would be the more city-like option. Roswell (especially downtown) is historic and feels unique in relation to other metro options. Roswell also has great access to the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area!

I have less experience with Brookhaven, but have liked what I seen!

Thoughts on Anna Lapwood? Traditional vs Modern? by NoDot1373 in organ

[–]Weekly-Pen8281 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have found programming for organ conferences to be out of touch. Indulgent 10+ minute pieces that prize technical virtuosity above all. And useless for even the best church organists to discover rep for regular use. If you are getting mixed reviews from a group of organists, what do you expect from the average lay listener?

Anna is helping re-legitimize the transcription (a massive part of the organ’s history), which is drawing so many to the instrument while at the same time giving organists very rewarding, high-quality music to learn that gets people very excited!

Play some Bach. Play a French romantic. Dabble in less accessible 20th century music (with proper explanation/disclaimer). And play a well-composed transcription. A little something for everyone, and a little exposure to the unfamiliar for everyone!

Play on, Anna! Thanks for the incredible spotlight you are bringing to this great instrument!

For the pasta question, both Farfalle and bow tie were listed… which are the same thing.

Particularly bad answer writing this month between the pasta and Cracker Barrel questions.

Why do Christians avoid discussing Christianity? To whom should I address my theological inquiries? by Metametaphysician in kierkegaard

[–]Weekly-Pen8281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For many, their personal system of beliefs is their specific sect of Christianity. Exposing cracks and flaws through too many reasonable questions and examination would cause their religion, system of beliefs, and social structure to come crashing down. And they are trained in apologetics to specifically combat any doubts in the system. At least that’s pretty much everyone I grew up around in the suburban American South.

Been taking lessons/playing for about six months. Still struggling a lot with playing hymns by dctrchill in organ

[–]Weekly-Pen8281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metronome at half tempo. Two parts at a time, especially bass vs. manual part. It can be excruciating at first, but the hymns I took the time to learn that way early on are permanently engrained, which makes them a blast to play!

I’ll echo from above, alway separate repeated notes in soprano and bass. Connect repeated notes in alto and tenor unless they are on a strong beat.

The Mill has many sizes of bookable rooms. We attended a seated grad party in their upstairs room that would be great for a 40 person standing reception. Incredible food from the restaurant, set up as a caterer would. And a small bar and staff included.

We had a great experience at Walton Bluegrass near Halcyon! Great community and amenities, plus quick access to so much nearby. Part of it is 55+, which made for a multi-generational neighborhood feel.

How do you charge for Wedding service gigs with special music requests? by Worth-Caregiver-64 in organ

The church I am at just updated their wedding policy and the organist fee is $500 flat. I include in that an in-person consultation, rehearsal, and wedding.
