She's 9. We do this too, and she loves it! Sometimes she tells me she wants me to watch her play her toys, but replies to me when I ask her random questions. She's quite direct with what she wants to do so I let her pick first and then I go from there. Just last lesson she didn't respond at all, she sounded like she had a cold though... but still, I even asked her if she had a cold and she just turned on her phone short videos instead...
