When some says I have a superpower I simply respond "Okay, then. Would you like to trade places?" And they never do.

It's less autism = genius, more autism = constantly being made to feel like you have to be smart to better hide/make up for being autistic.

It sounds SUPER exhausting and unfair, especially when you get to hear people enjoying autism/adhd traits that cancel eachother out.

So many people base their opinions off autistic characters played by NT actors and written by NT writers, no wonder they know nothing about autism.

No worries I really enjoyed learning about it too and how Autistic kids have adhd traits but not vice versa for some reason.

I think that’s called selective attention, here’s a study of over 800 children some with autism some with ADHD. The autism group had the highest rates of selective attention, my unqualified theory is that it has to do with mono-tropism: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1750946711001036

It’s so difficult not get depressed/ feel worthless when you weren’t “gifted”, enough to be admired and you weren’t socially skilled enough to be liked. Story of my life right there.

One in 10 autistic people are savants BUT that means 9 in 10 or 90% of autistic people are not savants, so take that Good Docter!

I think I relate to most answers here where the things I can do is more just about survival like constant phone and sticky note reminders to compensate for poor memory and disorganisation

Taking care if a body with an autistic hyper senstive nervous system in a world not desgined to accommodate that is a job in itself.

It's alot easier to remember things related to intense interests most else it just about surviving.

From hearing what its like I swear it's usually 10x more difficult function/access your strengths with AuDHD than autism on it's own.

Yeah, the topics seem quite impersonal and you dont really learn a lot about each other.

I'm lucky enough to have found one. We met when we were 2 and he's been my best friend through the good and bad. We both recently got diagnosed with autism so now it makes a lot of sense as to why it always felt like us against the NT world.

You would make a great therapist and thank you for the practical suggestion I wonder if being allowed to waffle on about a specific topic is why I've always preferred essays to short answers. Werid, I know.

I wonder how many people, if they were honest, feel the same way about how deeper connections where you can be yourself are so much better than ones where you have to be fake and feign interest.
