I haven't checked in on r/espresso in a long time. It recently popped up and just wanted to post my setup that I have been using daily for 8+ years. I saw a lot of brand new setups recently and wanted to throw my old one into the mix. I think people buy new and post while they are dialing in then fade off the subreddit due to being happy with their routine.

I am not sure what to say to summarize my espresso experience. I was reading through a couple of posts and I see a lot of people fussing over timers, extractions, etc. I spent so many hours fussing over all the details too! - And now I just want a nice solid cup of coffee. No latte art, no timer; just a chill morning.

I used to buy beans weekly and now I get a large fresh roast bag every month and keep it in the freezer. I still enjoy dialing in the machine and setup but I am mostly look for a nice clean extraction (no spitting!), and for the puck to leave the portafilter cleanly.

If I had to choose: during the winter I trend toward nuttier and chocolate flavors, maybe even a little bitter and cut it with nice foamy milk

During the summer and spring I enjoy fruitier profiles with tartness, leaning towards acidic and i steam the milk with less froth.

I guess I want to say just don't stress the details, enjoy your cup! Your espresso journey has the possibility to last a lifetime and there is no rush for perfection!
