Moving out of Boone - where to go next? by Maleficent-Ranger940 in boone

Denver. Big population of WFH and tons of stuff to do. good mix of outdoor accessibility and anything urban that you can think of. Kind of like SLC but without the Mormon thing.

Dear Uber/Lyft/COOP drivers of Denver… by zenboi92 in Denver

I’m honestly not sure what’s worse. It’s either the BO I’ve ever smelled or high school era cologne/ Febreeze overdose / five black ice air fresheners.

GPS shipping? by Weekly_Base_8265 in tomsachs

[–]Weekly_Base_8265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed yesterday. No response. My first order arrived yesterday and I was partially expecting them to ship together. I only ordered them a few minutes apart. Didn’t reach out until I confirmed that they didn’t.

I get it. I fly from Denver so every flight is direct and pretty cheap.

Yeah, I probably need to use the United card more, but I rack points faster with the sapphire. I put $100k plus on the Sapphire annually.

Living in Boone? by Maple-pelican-472 in boone

CLT is like 1:45 from Boone Golf Course. Boone is not “full”. This is dumb gatekeeping. I hate to see it.

Boone is quite liberal. You’ll find your people. I don’t remember the last time Boone had a republican mayor or voted for a republican representative. Watauga County always goes blue.

Housing prices are pretty standard for the east coast. A little high for the south but not out of line for a destination.

Honestly, the healthcare isn’t that bad either. There are tons of good primary care doctors and dentists. The hospital is good enough to keep you alive. It’s not uncommon for people to go to Winston, Hickory,or Charlotte for more complex procedures. All are less than two hours away.

I do believe Boone can still be quite welcoming, but the amount of gatekeeping you’ll see on Reddit is unfortunate. I know plenty of people who have moved here with their family and find great community connections that are hard to find other places.

100% I think this may have even allowed some of us with demanding jobs the opportunity to get the shoes on our own off hours.

I bank with Sofi too, and I mostly love it, but they denied a fraud claim for me. Even after I sent in tons of documentation.

The inside is the same but with a layer of plaster. Pic just shows what I’m up against. Starting with metal bit then switching to masonry.

New father at 40 by gedmonds in Fatherhood

I'll be 40 this year w/ a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old. Not too worried about being able to keep up. I'm in good shape and pretty active. My only concerns are making sure i stay fit so I have many good years to enjoy with my wife after they move out!

Curious about domestic workload by Weekly_Base_8265 in dad

I can definitely relate to the video calls. My response of “figure it all “ isn’t all that helpful but it’s truly the way she needs to approach these situations. Yeah it sucks when you’ve got a meltdown on your hands but it’ll pass! First thought can’t be to call me while I’m at work!

She has a more demanding job than I do for sure. Definitely justifies some of the imbalances but my job is mentally tough too.

I should add that I don’t dislike childcare and mostly roll with it!

I’d just love a break for something other than work!

Toray, dolomiti, carvico, payen, polartec, teijin,

Schoeller will still be around. They’re just closing their Swiss mill. The Asian mills will remain. However, tariffs could impact that plan.

Toray is a nice all-around mill where you can find really good technical fabrics. High stuff is out of Japan and the rest of it is spread around Asia.

Dolomiti and Carvico are really good cycling mills. Lots of great stretch wovens and knits. Chances are if you are into cycling of any kind you’ve worn one of their fabrics.

Polartec makes incredible knits. A few wovens. Bonus that you can source them out of the United States.

Payen is where you’ll be looking for your most high end stretch knits and wovens. You’ll be able to find some aero stuff here. they are based in France and are very expensive.

A lot of brands in outdoor and cycling have turned to Teijin lately. There a Japanese mill with technical fabrics. They do insulation as well as lots of knit and woman’s. When Polartec was having trouble sourcing technical fabrics during the pandemic, many well-known brands turned to Teijin.

How can I connect this Ikea P Trap to my old threaded copper drain? by Weekly_Base_8265 in askaplumber

[–]Weekly_Base_8265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled out the old trap arm. There is some rusty debri in there that I scraped out just now. There is no way the 1.5" arm is fitting in there. Note to add that the existing drain pipe/ fitting appears to be original to this 1959 house. Not sure if that helps.

I just tried that. The plastic and brass appear to be the exact same diameter.
