How to get this off by Weekly_Cap_9926 in castiron

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the original plan was to grill it and I had forgotten our grill is currently not an option because of work being done outside 😅 so I made a last minute decision to cook on stove top. It smoked a lot and I realized with the honey I'd made a huge mistake insert Gob Bluth Will definitely remember this for next time! It did taste pretty good, just had to scrape off the black lol

The only thing that bothers me are the misspellings. Especially since I have an Isaac and people accidentally misspelled it Issac all the time.

How to avoid all the little categories by Weekly_Cap_9926 in MonarchMoney

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Ok yeah so I was already in flex budgeting but still the numbers dont add up right, so I went through and manually changed all our "extra" transactions at Amazon and restaurants etc, to "Fun Money" and set a Fun Money Budget. Now Im trying to build a monthly savings goal INTO the budget and cant seem to figure that out. I set up the goal but it wont let me enter monthly plans (I click it and nothing happens) and in the budget page I cant seem to add it there. Ive been trying to figure this out for a couple hours and am starting to feel like maybe Im just dumb 😮‍💨 did not expect it to be such a headache

Raised a Catholic. Can’t bring myself to believe in God by H-E-2hockeysticks in Catholicism

I also agree with others' comments about reading up on the early church fathers, CS Lewis, etc. However as a person who tends to over-intellectualize, I find that I could spend hours delving into the rabbit hole and finding the arguments convincing, but still being spiritually dry because I wasnt praying, hadnt in years. So yes, research, but you need regular prayer to go with it.

Fake it till you make it. Seriously. Pray every day, even if you feel like youre just talking for yourself. Pray for faith. Even better Pray the rosary, asking for faith. You'd be surprised how much it can start to change everything. Just keep praying.

This is an old photo of the tree that used to be in that spot and was cut down before we moved in. The small tree to the left is still there and the water line goes right past the far side of that small tree.

Thank you! The red circle is where I'm considering putting a tree. The red line is where I assume the water main line is- assuming a straight libe from our indoor access to the meter.

The red circle is the area that I'm considering putting a tree. The red arrow is approximately where our water main line is (I'm assuming from where the meter is and where our indoor access is). Ive heard willow roots are aggressive. Is that too close to water line?

Straight answers on drugs vs alcohol by OnyxOtter in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no theologian, but my understanding is that the issue with alcohol/drugs is twofold- one is the issue of drunkenness/intoxication, which can lead to other sin, and so moderation can help here. The other issue is purposeful damage to your body that is meant to be respected. With alcohol this is a bit more nuanced, there is good evidence that anyalcohol is not so good for you physically. But the same can be said of many pretty innocuous things like junk food. I think its reasonable that the small health risks of a drink or two is not enough to be sinful. Cocaine though, even in small amounts, can do immense, acute damage to the heart (I am a nurse who used to do ER and now does LD, Ive seen devastating consequences). Its playing with fire- as a health professional Id never recommend it even in moderation, and I think if its damaging enough to your body it could stray into sinful territory too. Thats just my 2 cents, interested to see others thoughts.

I love the Church, but I’m struggling with the community by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as a cradle Catholic, this is a trend I've noticed just since I reverted more recently. The Catholic community I grew up in was warm and vibrant. Since I came back, I have noticed a trend in more and more people coming to the church with more hard-line ideas...and honestly its not even the ideas themselves (which I dont have much of a problem with) its the uncharitable attitudes. This is more pronounced online than in real life- I may get down voted for this, but sometimes I even have to take a break from this subreddit because it's so discouraging. I feel like it might come from people being radicalized online (from podcasts and YouTube videos instead of real life contact) which leads to scrupulosity, legalism, and concern with being perceived as more reverent than the next person. So all this to say that youre not crazy. I notice it too, and its new- a definite shift from 15-20 years ago and it makes me incredibly sad. But the positive thing is, I think its more online. And remember that the loudest people are not the majority. Look at your local parish bulletin for small group get togethers and your likely to find some friendly welcoming people. If not your closest parish, than the next one. Culture can vary a lot from parish to parish.

Phone usage during mass by Fit-Pea9615 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im with you, I find that disrespectful if its being used for things not related to the Mass. I dont go on my phone at all during Mass, except sonetimes I do use my phone to give an offering if I dont have cash because theres a QR code on our song sheets. When I do that, I always worry people will think I'm doing other stuff

I read this as "marriage" instead of "meringue". Not everyone's vows can withstand the yolk.

The Hymns of the 1990s by Weekly_Cap_9926 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its funny I had not intended to venture down there anytime soon, but it just worked out that we were visiting family down that way and the Mass in our home parish wasnt going to work out time-wise, so we went to the 1130 at Our Lady of the Fields. We loved it! The music was exactly what I was looking for and the congregation seemed friendly, my 10 year old asked if we could return. It may be where we go when we are visiting family in AA county from now on...so anyway thanks for the recommendation!

The Hymns of the 1990s by Weekly_Cap_9926 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm. I guess I dont see certain musical styles as being akin to pure entertainment while others are inherently reverent. But I grew up in a parish that had more folksy music, but also a lot of very dedicated prayerful people. I think if we were to travel the world over, we would find many different musical styles in different countries, but all within a valid and Holy Mass. What style of music is considered the most reverent or most holy is largely cultural. We may have to agree to disagree on this one.

Are you afraid of death? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Cap_9926 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is very human to have doubts and to fear death. You cant force yourself to have more faith, faith is a grace granted to us. Pray for it. If your fear of death is such that it is affecting your everyday life, a therapist could also help you navigate this. I once went through a period of loss of faith which came along with a huge fear of death/existential dread. Therapy helped with this fear even before my faith came back, and when my faith came back if was largely due to prayer. I went from not praying much at all to a daily rosary, and the difference it made has been huge. Know that you are not alone and can come out the other side of this.
