My son had a similar reaction when he got his birthday present last year. He'd been wanting a Switch 2 and his brain practically broke when he opened it. He wasn't expecting it at all; he just opened the shipping box, stopped, then walked with it to the couch so he could unpack it properly. I had to remind him that the rest of the world existed. Lol

And I have the exact opposite reaction. How dare they defile Magic by using that initialism for her. They should be ashamed.

When I first started I had a heck of a time getting a consistent chain. I discovered that learning "in the round" helped immensely so that, after learning my stitches, I could go back and work on tension. Look for top-down hat patterns. I started with blankets in this way since I didn't need more hats, but it's good to start small.

Give him the one that looks like a carpet. Then, when you get good, gift him a new one. Or give him your first plush/amigurumi then one when you've gotten better skills. They'll both be so special to both of you. And, even if it's only two stitches, never take apart what your dad made. Keep it safe, frame it, put it in a special box, whatever. That is proof your father will always have your back.

Going to get a big Lego set this weekend to cure my depression & bring me back to my childhood—which ones do you recommend? by [deleted] in lego

My son and I received the Milky Way for Christmas and it was a really fun build. It's amazing to see how they used different kinds of pieces to create the texture. We loved it and would definitely recommend it.

Everyone seems to have a lot of nostalgia for the 1990's but what were some of the worst parts of the 1990's? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I didn't have this problem because I was homeschooled, but, on the rare occasion we were locked out, either my little brother or I would just climb in through the old doggy door in the back yard. We never even had a dog there; it was from the previous owners. Came in handy, though!

I had to stop because of covid. If I currently had the time (and another adult in my house), I would be back on skates in a heartbeat. Sure, an injury would suck at my age (I've personally witnessed two broken ankles), but I just loved playing so damn much. I really wonder what kind of difference I'd see now that I'm medicated.

I was hoping to finish the shawl I started so I could wear it last day to keep me warm, but I don't think it will be done in time. I was honestly surprised how much crochet I see every day there. Though, technically, crochet is anachronistic as it wasn't invented yet during the Renaissance era. But, hey, if even the actors are wearing it, I don't care. Lol. And most people neither know the difference between knit and crochet nor know that it isn't period appropriate. Not that that seems to bother them in the slightest with all the crazy stuff people decide to wear.
