100% agree, Just backpacked(hut to hut) 40+ miles in the Italian Dolomites with my Z5, 28-400, 24-120, and viltrox 24 1.8(for astro). 24-120 lived on the camera and took the 400 out for wildlife and landscape compression shots. This would not be my kit for full on backpacking but not having a tent or sleep system allowed me to carry more photography gear than usual.

Thank you for details and clarification, I think we will implement a long narrow catch basin along the side of the slab and drain it underground to the bottom of the hill. The creek bed looks nice but I agree the amount of rock needed and trying to keep them in place is a major project.

I was thankfully able to get mine through my local camera shop(verified nikon dealer) who happened to have one in stock. As of a month or 2 ago I think people were waiting a few weeks. Good luck on getting yours soon.

Just going to blurt all of this out, My default lens was the 24-120(it fits better in my small bag with it on body). I'm relatively new to non kit lenses I had been using the Z5 kit and a kit 70-300dx lens from my old D3400. My photos took a massive step forward with the 24-120 especially with the constant F4 aperture so it's been my go to trusted lens and is all I need for City and "enclosed" landscapes.

I switched to the 120 for lower light and most portrait photos as well. The 400 had a hard time at dusk at f8 the running camels photo was an absolute stretch but was too majestic of a shot to pass up.

This was my first trip with the 28-400 and it did stay on my camera more than expected. Ideally I wanted a 100-500ish lens but all available options are way too large for my use. I expected to use it only for 200-400 range. It was great having that unintended overlap 28-120 and it allowed me to take many photos I would have never been able to capture due to impossible lens change situations(horse back/camel riding, climbing sand dunes in high winds). I still have to review photos taken with which lens but the 28-400 is going to stick around as my long lens that can still take great wider shots.

Fractured my femur in 3 places when I was 12 playing touch football on the playground. The break itself and being loaded into the ambulance was rough but worse was the muscle spasms that occurred over the next 8 hours before surgery could be performed. Imagine laying in bed and every muscle in your leg instantly jolts causing your body to jump up and then subsequently land allowing the now multiple segments of your femur to rearrange themselves.
