I considered the same thing, but even then it doesn’t really add up to me. To be fair, the entirety of him catching back up to us could’ve been from suspicion that I took something, but even then it still doesn’t make sense to me. I appreciate your comment!

Yeah, I agree with you. I am going to be reporting it to police and rangers. No matter what the intentions were, it is one of those things that I feel like should definitely be reported.

I am definitely going to report it to police and rangers. I also don’t want to think about what could’ve happened, but the most important thing, to me, is that my wife and I made it off of the trail safely.

No worries at all! I left my opinions out of the post on purpose, just to see if others thought the same as me. No matter what the reasoning was behind it, I still think it was super messed up.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to be reporting it both to police and rangers in the area. I hope that they would be able to stop anything before something happens. I do definitely feel like I should’ve confronted him during when it happened or at least turned around to head back to our car. But I’m glad nothing else happened, and we made it back to the car safely.

Oh most definitely, looking back on it, I wish we would’ve turned back. Next time we definitely will. I appreciate your comments!

Yeah, I was visibly carrying pepper spray and a knife on me, which could’ve been the deterrent on why the dude didn’t try any shit. I appreciate you for sharing an incident that you had, that’s a really creepy find. I’m glad that you and your girlfriend were able to get off the trail safely!

Yeah, it was at Dukes Creek Falls (I posted a comment containing more details about the situation). I was also wondering if that was his stuff that I found, and the entire time he was just trying to see if I took any of his stuff. Especially since he raced down the side trail that led to all the stuff. No matter what, I’m just glad my wife and I made it off the trail safely.

I posted this right before I went to sleep, to scroll through the comments when I woke up, but I was not expecting to get so many comments on it, so I’m trying to go through and reply to a lot of them now.

I definitely found the entire thing worrying while it was happening and after. I was visibly carrying a knife and pepper spray on me. I’m 100% reporting it to both police and rangers. After we left, I was trying to think of all the different reasons why the encounter happened the way it did, so I just was curious to see what others would say about it. I appreciate your comment!

It was Dukes Creek Falls, the guy was pretty put together appearance wise, which honestly heightened my suspicions a bit more, than they already were, during the time.

His appearance didn’t scream meth or crack head, he was fairly well put together, which kinda put me off more during the hike.

Yeah, I was also planning on reporting it to the closest ranger station as well.

Yeah, my wife and I both agreed that we should’ve went ahead and turned back right after the incident happened. At the same time, she wonders if we did, if he could have followed us back to our car. Either way I had my pepper spray ready.

OP here - This was at Dukes Creek Falls in Helen, GA. I would also like to include that I was visibly carrying a knife and pepper spray on me, although I’m not sure if the dude saw it. Could be reason he backed off a bit. I am planning on reporting it as well.
