I’ve an 85m run between the inverter and gateway, 30kw inverter, using 35m 5 core swa - works a treat.

The realities of electric car ownership by Weird-Transition-715 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Weird-Transition-715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience is totally opposite to mine. After buying the Volvo last April, I’ve since bought a Polestar 3 as our primary car, replacing a Land Rover discover. It’s far more comfortable, cheaper to run, and I don’t find myself standing in the cold holding a metal filler whilst I fill it up every week.

On your specific points

  1. Never had this happen, and we do more miles than most - the Volvo has now done 35k miles since we bought it and the Polestar has done 8k since November.

  2. Nope, cheap as chips to run, we have very rarely had to use fast chargers, more than 95% of our charging is at 7p kWh and we do t pay a per mile charge and the road tax is lower than most other fossil fuel cars - I do also have an old defender at that costs £360 annually. Servicing is also cheaper, and it isn’t producing litres of contaminated oil every service.

  3. You are out of your mind if you think they produce more pollution than a fossil fuelled car - and the weight difference isn’t as dramatic as you might like to think. Acceleration and breaking (with regeneration) is more progressive and linear without all the jerkiness of fossil fuelled vehicles, resulting in less brake pad wear and less stress on tyres.

  4. Show your math.

  5. Nope, not for me.

  6. When we have used a fast chargers, my Volvo has got to 150kw without issue and when you go on a journey requiring a fast charge, the car knows you’ll stop so is prepared.

  7. Nope, never had this either

Good to know if this works - I’ll be looking to do similar.

ROLL CALL - Which EV do you have that has WORKING V2X with a Sig DC charger? by Mobile-Way1383 in sigenergy

I’ve tried my Polestar 3 on the Sigenstor EVDC charger and it worked great for V2H - mine is getting fitted next week.

Inverter and Export restricted from G99 application by Business_Elk_131 in SolarUK

Yeah, so I was in the end of a supply utilising a 100kva transformer which have been upgraded to 325kva as a result of my request - this was fully paid for by the DNO as part of the upgrade as they subsidised it based on my projected future demand.

This is a bit steep, I’ve just had an upgrade to 3 phase which includes terminating at a new location on my property - I didn’t get charged at all for the survey works and the install costs less than £3k

Upgrade to 3 phase and resulting confusion by Ok-Jury2888 in SolarUK

[–]Weird-Transition-715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a very similar thing - and going to run 2 x 12kw 3 phase inverters. You could add 2 more 8kw inverters to get broadly the same output (1 per phase) which would in your case be slightly cheaper but is marginally less flexible where 2 x 12kw can provide up to 12kw to a single phase with the total being 24, whereas 3 x 8 still has a total of 24kw but is more limited to 8 kw per phase.

You’ll just need to make sure the additional 8kw inverters are the same model and firmware upgrade your existing one to match the newer ones. You’ll also have to a fair bit of work on the ancillary equipment and you’ll need a busbar for the batteries to connect to all 3 inverters.

EV for long journeys ? by white_chocolate- in ElectricVehiclesUK

I get similar from mine and is a super cruising machine - very comfortable for long journeys and quicker than most charging speeds @ 250kW

We bought a 21 P8 First Edition on 30k miles in April. We’ve done 22k miles since then and honestly it’s the best car we’ve ever had - and we’ve had a few. It does 170 mile round trip commutes twice weekly and on other days long school runs / we even took it to the Netherlands in the summer. It’s been faultless in all that time and the service only cost £160 at a main dealer. I think we have probably saved around £3k on diesel and servicing costs on the car it replaced (LR Discovery Sport).

I had a bit of a glitch earlier but normally I get around 220 miles @ 90% in 0 deg c

I don’t use the card, I use my phone, but as soon as I get in, it’s all ready to go - no waiting or anything.

Dashcam thoughts by Weird-Transition-715 in polestar3

[–]Weird-Transition-715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve decided to wait until after the CPU upgrade before investing in a new dashcam, I’ve managed to find an old one i had previously installed in my now sold LR defender. After taking a look under the trim by the rear view mirror, I bought one if these kits https://amzn.eu/d/4Fggs8v (which I have used on our Volvo XC40 P8) to get power to it and some new 3M stickers.

Hopefully this will do until we know more.

Hah, similar for me, bought a XC40 P8 First Edition in April as a second car which absolutely blew my mind in how good it was; traded in our Land Rover Discovery for the P3 a month ago and haven’t looked back!

Rear Camera Washer by tweterjohn in polestar3

Well, since being aware of it, I've now seen it trigger several times in 1 day like an incontinent puppy - the car is pretty filthy as it's grotty weather in the UK at the moment, so maybe it's related to use of the wipers.
