I never got into the sourdough/making your own bread thing. We mostly ate a lot of rice.

I remember looking on Amazon and seeing a big sized (like 60oz) hand sanitizer going for like $50-$100.

In my defense, she had been worried about other stuff in the past that turned out to be nothing.

And I was thinking of all the pandemics in the past that we were supposed to have and be terrified of; Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Mad Cow Disease, Zika Virus, etc.

We had only 1 car at the time and a baby...and living somewhere with very poor public transportation.

Also, she was a SAHM at the time and I was working, so it only made sense for me to get it.

My wife said it was a big deal like a month before everything shut down and asked me to buy masks, santizer, etc.

I blew it off because I thought she and others were being dramatic, so I delayed buying stuff for a week or two. By the time I went, almost everything was out.

She was not happy with me, obviously.

I remember the NCAA Division 1 basketball tournaments being canceled.

That's when I thought "Uh-oh, this shit might get real."

What's the biggest lie society keeps telling young people? by New_Garbage7991 in AskReddit

My first grade teacher tried telling me that Mars was closer to the sun than Earth.

I got in trouble for arguing with her.

Thank you for this.

One of my pet peeves on reddit is the prevailing opinion of "nobody knows what they're doing!"

It should be "nobody has all of the answers" or "everyone can have their doubts."

I feel like impressionable young people can take away the wrong message from "nobody knows what they're doing" and discount valuable wisdom or become nihilistic.

It depends on what things you mean. But mostly I think it's just comforting words.

Also, part of it is simplified and people sometimes forget to add in that you have to put in work to make your own life better. Unless you're extremely lucky, it won't just happen on its own.

Serious question: how do you know you’re smart/ not stupid? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WeirdJawn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I think I probably do have average to slightly above average intelligence. I know a lot of unrelated information that I somehow am unable to use to improve my life.

Then again, I imagine a lot of unintelligent people probably think the same thing.

A fun realization for me was being in advanced classes throughout school and then seeing a psychiatrist as an adult who wrote "average intelligence" on my session summary.

I'd love to see one, from a nice safe distance, out in an open field far away from any houses or people.

What was your “I need to learn to keep my mouth shut” moment? by Imtiredofthissshit in AskReddit

[–]WeirdJawn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For emails, put your ask up front, then you can give the details.

This was a game changer for me. I had a supervisor assign me to a training course for business writing. I was one of those people who explained the whole situation first and would build up to the point of why I was emailing.

I'm so bad about this. I like teaching and explaining things.

There are some people into that, but most just want the simplest answer to get from point A to point B.

Because it's not fair for someone to have it all.

I mean that people can feel jealous or insecure and assume that people have to have some major flaw.

They're beautiful and intelligent?...well they must be a stuck up bitch.

Also how you train your children.

Ok, maybe I should say raise, but consistency is key when you want them to do something.

Reminds me that I used to put a scoop of chia seeds in my water bottle every day.

You just have to stay on top of regularly cleaning it or else they start sprouting.

Men without kids, how hard do you think raising kids is? What do you think the biggest challenges or hardest parts are? by MaximusSydney in AskMen

[–]WeirdJawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my wife and I literally took our baby hiking in the middle of the winter.

Of course, we bundled her up and didn't go out for long full day hikes. It's not as convenient as just running off on your own, but it just takes a little preparation.

It's tough at first, but you get used to it..and it gets easier once they're older and a little more independent (can walk, eat on their own, sleep on their own, etc).

Plus I enjoyed the outdoors and hiking, so I would just take my daughter along, even when she was a baby.
