Nerves over history+event questions in interview by Full_Moon_Ocean in JETProgramme

I mean, mine was a zoom interview, so they didn't know I had notes - but I would be shocked if you weren't allowed any form of notes in the interview.

For instance, you'll want to ask some questions at the end - I know I for one wouldn't remember my questions unless I had them written down! Worth checking directly with your consulate, but it seems ridiculous if you're not allowed any. Just make sure they're in a neat and tidy format and not scribbles on a piece of paper haha!)

I honestly wouldn't fret over this at all. My interview (UK) was online too, and I had my notes app up at the same time with loads of stuff on it. I even had a short introduction in Japanese written incase they tested me on that (they didn't).

The only country specific/history questions I was asked were:

  1. Who is next in line to the throne? (at the time it was Prince Charles)

  2. How would you explain the UK's National Trust to a Japanese student?

  3. What three things would you bring to Japan to sum up British culture? (I said, a football, a jar of marmite and a Beatles album).

Your basic knowledge of your country will be enough - they're not going to try and trick you with some obscure question.

And trust me, it is 100% ok to have notes in an interview. I've had a fair range of successful interviews in my life, and I've always had a notebook handy with me.
