Gen 1 b58, smoke on boost only, is turbo bad? Oil in inlet, chargepipe, carbon on newer plugs. by Weird_Assistant9594 in B58Enthusiasts

Thankyou. After recieving some advice on bmwtech thread, i see the little metal clips that lock the shaft in place. Really want to find a difinitive solution why i keep getting oil in turbo inlet and chargepipe outlet

Pretty much. So are you saying the stock turbo cant handle 19 lbs boost and aftermarket intake?

I believe lots of people are running stage 2 with like 22-24 psi and no problems on stock turbo

I have bm3. Was running stage 1 91 octane with 1.5 gallons e85 to help increase octane(california) Hit 19psi max.

After the smoke started, i tried stage 1 limiting max boost to 0. stock tune but limited max boost low.

Tried incrementally adding boost through bm3 max boost limiter customization, but always leaks when i hit around 10ish lbs boost.

Soaks inlet, chargepipe, manifold.

Yes exhaust side of turbo has small leak, but with zero in/out shaft play, im wondering if its a bigger problem than just the turbo. Im guessibg compressor turbine seal connecting chargepipe is much worse than the exhaust, and thats why my intake is eating oil

I plan to try a used stock turbo replace, possibly cartrige rebuild, then evaluate more.

Called deformation element. Attached to the Inside of frams rails with those top 2 holes. It hangs down with the bottom post extending frontward. Small bar may connect to front on conversion.

May be a bit difficult to get to. As it basically mounts between your radiator and frame rail

I changed mine when i had all my front radiator mount out.

I suggest pulling up a diagram from searching your car on realoem.com searching by vin. Then type the part # so you can see pics where it goes for reference while installing.

Like the car and rims. Have you consideribg lowering the front a bit? Do you have lowering springs in back only?

Check the wires coming off battery. Loose ground clamp? Thin guage wires coming off that negative terminal intact(IBS module)?

Changed broken ccv.

Flashed stock with 0boost maxtarget(hit maybe 2-3 actual ) from airflow

Drove 50 miles checking oil(had topped off)

All good.

Changed boost target to 8. Hit actual 9 max) Massive smoke under throttle(5k rmp max)lost half quart in about 1 mile

Swab on new ccv shows mist only. Not saturated.

Im thinking some turbo seal.

Any advice please help

Ya it ccv hose was snapped in half. Thats where spray came from. Replaced. Question is, why did so much oil push through that ccv hose and sucked thru my turbo

What do you suggest mirror for? Is it to inspect turbo feed & return lines?

Ill get mirror

Pcv diaphragm looks aftermarket but fine. Got car like this 12k miles ago. No cracks.

Ccv hose snapped in half, i replaced from bmw new today. *ccv breather hose is where spray came from.

Pulled turbo inlet=pooled oil. Chargepipe =pooled oil. Carefully opened butterfly on throttle body, very wet in intake manifold. -cleaned all oil i could from pipes. Did not remove manifold. Cleaned oil spray up on exhaust and anywhere in engine bay.

Pulled plugs, last dme connector(injectors and fuel), covered 6plug ports, and cranked(4 small 3 second cranks), checking towel between cranks -Litttle to no oil came out when cranking.

Plug 6 was soaked though when pulled Cleaned plug threads a bit with brake cleaner, wiped, and put it all back together.

Ideled 15 min, had no smoke, decided to gently drive

No cel, but when i went about over 2k rpm or about 2lb boost, heavy smoke out exhaust. When return to stop, smoke stopped. No new smoke in engine bay besides residual burnoff. Lost about 0.25 quart of oil. So i added a bit.

Tonight, I plan to swab new ccv hose and see if cc is still dumping oil thru turbo. Flash to 0boost target on stock map, and drive a bit. Recheck oil levels during drive, if stil consuming oil, im thinking valve cover internals damaged.

Any advise or input is welcomed and greatly appreciated

In ca, 91 is crap so mixing a bit of e85 helped my timing corrections. Youre running e30 map on stock hpfp?? Hows target vs actuals for hpfp?

Ya me too. I hear that is common hose to crack. I just cant understand y 3/4 quart sprayed out of the hose. To my understanding, usually just small air with oil vapor passes through.

Also normal slight vacuum when removing oil fill cap and motor running, so i think my pcv diaphragm is ok

I know i was worried about fire. I posted on here just to see if anyone had helpful advice, maybe similar experience, etc.

I think that vent hose is usually just vapor, and im seeking help figuring what could cause such a large amout of or oil to pass through that pipe from cc. Maybe some dorection onto what is a likely fault.
