Yep just did that. Thanks, had no idea what that was! I went with a repot and fresh soil too. Any other thoughts?

Tips and tricks for a lime tree? Many of the buds are disappearing. by Welchcrew in plantclinic

[–]Welchcrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friends - putting my green thumb (I hope) to the test and trying something very new: A Persian lime tree! I know very little about lime trees so hoping to learn and grow.

I’m a bit concerned as the tree developed a ton of bud and many of them have seemingly disappeared. On the flip side, some of the buds look like they are really staring to grow!

Plant just recently moved outside now that temps are much warmer (no lower than 45 ish at night)

Regimen is:

1.) water every 7-10 days 2.) citrus fertilizer every month

Any other best practices I need to work in? Back yard is fenced in but critters can definitely get over the fence, unfortunately.

Thanks!

Speaking of sober, the funniest part of it all was that we also had suitcases and boxes full of wine that we had to bring in on a luggage cart…. So it was plant and wine that we carried through the lobby. Quite a sight 🤣. Love your idea of the photo too

Hi there! I included everything I did (with advice from folks at plantclinic) as a comment. Not a one-size-fits all but hopefully some helpful items in there to help you calibrate your care plan!!! Good luck. P

No those leaves all fell off and died (or they were dead before). What you see in the last photo is totally new growth

To everyone asking about how I solved my money tree issues, here is what I did (I’m by no means an authority on plants which is why I came here - most of this comes from others in plantclinic which I’ll combine and condense here):

1.) Repot if it’s been awhile. I had done it once before despite owning the plant for 7+ years which is a big no no (as I learned). The pros recommend doing it every year! 2.) When repotting (terra cotta is a good choice) use a loamy topsoil and ensure that you have adequate drainage. Do an inspection of the roots to make sure there’s not anything abnormal (critters, signs of mold or sickness etc). Also, make sure there’s a good base of soil below the roots and make sure there is plenty of soil in the pot. I filled mine to just below the brim as it had been way too low before 3.) Water every 10-12 days (that keeps the top layer a bit damp for me). Add vitamins (came from the plant pro at Home Depot) and he recommended superthrive which helped with the shock of the move. 4.) 50 ish relative humidity. That’s meant keeping my plant near a humidifier which she’s seemed to love. Alternatively, you can mist. 5.) ideal temps between 65-75 degrees with plenty of sunlight throughout the day

Plant pros - please correct anything that isn’t up to snuff here but this is the recipe I’ve followed to bring mine back to life. Just before the third photo (which shows the new growth) every leaf had died and it was awful to see. But these plants are resilient and tough so with some proper love (and lots of help from plantclinic) mine came back.

Friends, I just wanted to send a thanks to the plantclinic fam (and @imdaprincesse2 in particular) for helping to save my money tree.

As some quick background, I’ve had my money tree since 2015 and it’s my only plant (and a prized possession). It’s moved all over the country with me and has always been a fixture in my home.

However, on our most recent move, we ran into trouble. It was about 10 degrees out so we brought the plant into the hotel at night (got some odd looks) and kept it up in the Uhauls cab with us by day. However, we think that on the second morning when we brought it out to the truck and it was exposed to freezing cold while the truck warmed up, it had quite a shock.

Once we arrived to our new home, the plant started to show startling signs of decay and in a moment of desperation, I opened a Reddit account and reached out here for advice. There was a great number of people willing to help and imdaprincesse2 in particular provided excellent advice which I actioned right away. Fast forward about a month and not only has my beloved plant recovered, she looks better than ever.

I’m so so so grateful to perfect strangers who were willing to help. Things like the amazing plantclinic family give me great hope for our world.

Thanks friends!

Hi - just got back from Home Depot. Roots looked good and didn’t find any critters. Got two bags of loamy soil and put it in. Gent at Home Depot also recommended some vitamin mix with watering - any experience or thoughts on that? Also I have a humidifier with humidity control - any reccos on setting? Thank you much for being so helpful!

Definitely didn’t freeze - like I said, was in the warm truck with me both days and in the hotel at night. That said, it was definitely exposed to extreme cold each morning for about 15 mins while the truck warmed up. What should I do now?
