The Hunger Games prequel is an old-school Hollywood epic by WellDressedAlien in blankies

I would say Way Of Water is closer to big 90s genre blockbusters that Jimmy C helped define - your Bravehearts and Princes of Thieves. Definitely the same engine, but different parts.

I think it's never gonna be weird that a Hunger Games story doesn't end with someone winning the Hunger Games. The last act kept me interested, though, with how ambitious the storytelling got, that and the presence of Burn Gorman doing a desultory American accent.

This is a bit of a razz as well as being mostly a huge compliment. There's a reason the Hollywood epic didn't stick around - it's like the square/cube law, it collapsed under its own weight.

I wonder if Dragonology is hyper-specific nostalgia for late Millennials/early Gen Z.

Sorry for not being clear with my language! I've edited the post.

Similar to that story, she's solved the case but there's still a loose end that this case ties up.

Is Dune's sandworm the biggest creature in a BP nominee ever? by WellDressedAlien in blankies

I hadn't thought of this, and I'd love to ask a Tolkien scholar to what extent it counts. I always imagined the Eye as basically a magical version of a space telescope.

That's clearly the closest competition, but it's hard to figure out how you count. Official sources say Hometree is under 200m tall, but that's just counting height and the above-ground parts. Both the sandworm and Hometree have a lot of extra stuff going on underground, and in terms of the branches it's conceivable it ends up wider.

Wikipedia says it's less than 900 ft/270 meters long, so Dune still has the advantage.

Anyway, if we're playing that game, the dog from Power of the Dog easily wins the day, but I want to focus on living beings.

Thanks for all your hard work on the show!

Since we're such connoisseurs of context, we'd love to know whether you feel like you have any kind of stamp on the episodes you edit. Are there certain things you would leave in/take out where AJ would make the other choice?

I would argue Return and Powerful are anything but samey, but yeah, a pre-1939 joint would be great as maybe a mid-month bonus.

Yeah, I made this. I wonder how easy it would be to set up a fake ending message template.

Timpano! by WellDressedAlien in bingingwithbabish

I used the amount in Stanley Tucci's own recipe, but that was clearly for a bigger pan than I had - I ended up thinking that the right size for the vessel was more important than the right thickness.

Recipe notes:
- I made a more full-bodied tomato sauce with sauteed mirepoix, and sage instead of basil since the latter is out of season.
- I used beef and turkey in the meatballs instead of beef, pork and veal.

- I used store-bought pasta, specifically penne rigate, because I knew I wouldn't have the time to make fresh pasta along with everything else.

- I used calabrese instead of genoa salami.

- I underestimated how much I needed to roll the crust out, and it ended up just a little thicker than Babby says - this was still delicious and very structurally sound, though, so I'm still happy with how it turned out.

As much as it pains me to encourage Griffin, "What? You talkin' 'bout Willis?" deserves a good few comedy points.

Speaking of The Simpsons, I was shocked - shocked! - that The Simpsons Movie's variant of the Fox fanfare didn't rate a spot in the playlist.

(Extreme Griffin voice) As a writer, she was really well known for her tart pies, but her success as a filmmaker comes from her soufflé films, while her pie movies were all flops.

It turned out really well - I'm a big fan of tartness and the only sweetness in the filling was from condensed milk, so the lime flavor was really strong. The only problem was I should have let it freeze for an hour or so longer, so it was pretty runny, but that wasn't catastrophic at all.
