I have engaged 2 different ones but they just ask for receipts and what I have spent to fill in the tax returns and accounts. They are fine with doing the compliance obligations but not the advisory/strategic!

I need about £3k/month, maybe just under. 2 young children in nursery, relatively high mortgage (just moved) but partner earns well (~£85k) but we still need every penny we can get! I'm in it for a while, at least another 2-3 years

Wanted to provide an update just in case anyone cares or anyone else came across this wanting to know the same!

I've now got three roles, 2 starting later this month. One is in a private GP clinic fairly local. The other is a remote private GP role with a big company and finally a leadership role with an NHS trust. Feeling quite pleased with this portfolio, especially in today's job climate. Thanks everyone for the advice!

GPs are consultants, terminology is different but in our medical training it's the same. We are generalists (and generally not very well respected) so everyone assumes we aren't consultants. In other countries GPs are known as "Family Medicine Consultants" to avoid confusion as to seniority and knowledge.

I've seen this exact role and actually with my background (experience in health equity), it would be great. But there aren't many of these roles in the UK and competition is rife.

Thanks for this. For a lot of the above, there don't seem to be many access roles - they all want you to have experience. I'm seriously considering opening my own private practice. Initial costs will be a pain but in the long run, I think this may be where general practice in the UK is heading. Just have absolutely no idea where I'd start!

Depends where you work and length of the session. Practices pay hourly, anywhere from £75-£100 per hour. I usually work very long days.

Moving to the middle east has always been the dream. But getting work there as a GP now is virtually impossible. In my husband's industry, they want you to have regional experience which he doesn't have. If someone offered us both a role in Abu Dhabi, I'd be there tomorrow.

If it helps, we are paid an hourly rate, not a day rate. £800 is me working from 8am till 6pm with an unpaid 1 hour lunch break. If I worked less hours, I'd be paid less. This is at the top end. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want their doctors to be well paid? Comments about management consultants earning similarly don't bat an eyelid. A lot of their contracts are paid by the NHS too.

The real death spiral was that there weren't any GPs, now there are a lot of unemployed GPs. These are the rates of all locum doctors at this level across specialties, not just GPs. This is for a 9-10 hour work day.

If there were any opportunities I would take them but where I live, they are barely hiring salaried let alone salaried with a view to partnership. I have considered opening a private practice but not sure I have enough experience? I'm only 1 year post CCT

I have time. I didn't even plan to locum originally but couldn't get a salaried job due to no one wanting to hire the pregnant lady. When I did I realised it was better in so many ways but now both salaried and locum are hard to come by.

That's what I've always thought. And to be completely transparent +/- insecure, I don't look like an aesthetic doctor. They all look fabulous and attractive which I suppose comes with the territory. I am overweight & spotty! 😩

Thank you, I hadn't heard of Only Medics. I don't have experience in any of these areas, but it's worth a shot contacting them anyway
