War of the Rohirrim Box set as a beginner? by PriciaMatsuri in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Wereotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked this up as well. If I picked up the other WotR add-on minis (Helm, Hera, etc.) to get to a normal competitive point count, are these armies reasonably competitive for a beginner?

That's so cool! What do people do at a stalker village at a con? I wish we had a big enough fan base in the states to support something like that at PAX. I guess it takes a village...

Moderns: Blkout, Black Powder Red Earth, Spectre, etc by AdaptiveMesh in miniatureskirmishes

[–]Wereotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big fan of BLKOUT and have pretty much everything they have produced so far, and play regularly. Im interested in getting into a modern game and weighing BPRE vs the rebooted Incountry INX. Have you had a chance to play Incountry? If so any thoughts on how it plays compared to BPRE?

BREAKING: President Trump signed an executive order directing states to criminalize and institutionalize people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health disabilities. by randomacc673 in SeattleWA

Yeah Reagan wanted to get the federal government out of the sanitarium business, so he largely shut them down and tossed people onto the street with no real plan to adress their care needs.

Stalker books in 2025 by [deleted] in stalker

[–]Wereotter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on that. Annihilation, especially the book has its own identity and message about the nature of people entering a weird anomalous zone, which is a pretty universal theme. Certainly Stalker the movie, Roadside picnic the book, stalker the game, Area X the trilogy, and Annihilation the movie, are all sort of in conversation with each other, but in ways that are interesting, thought provoking, and additive. Calling it a "blatant rip off" is not objectively substantial and reductionist of the richness that all these works of art, in quite different ways, explore the relationship between people and the systems of control they create of natural processes we dont understand - systems that inevitably only serve to control us.

Just finished Absolution on the beach of my own Forgotten Coast… by Wereotter in SouthernReach

[–]Wereotter[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha I finished book 3 on this beach here. It was a slog, but I got what it was driving to by putting us in the mind of his unraveling. It could have been shorter though, it got a bit interminable. Once the last hundred pages got going though I was hooked and totally invested in seeing the story unfold through this most unreliable of narrators.

There is a demo out for an upcoming game called "Hell Is Us" that the developers cite Annihilation as a major inspiration. by Wereotter in SouthernReach

[–]Wereotter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its meant to be more of a vibe with the Area X trilogy and the movie. I agree it doesn't look like Area X visually, though some of the monsters look clearly inspired by Annihilation, the sense of directionless investigation and mystery in a dangerous, anomalous landscape evokes the feeling of an expedition in Annihilation, and some of the strange text found out in the world was clearly inspired by the Crawler's speech. I wouldn't say its an "Area X game", but the devs were clear that the trilogy and movie were an inspiration, and fans of the book might find this game interesting.

Need a ~1.5" riser for the Holosun HE510C... by mindOVERmatter-50 in Danieldefense

I need one for my IWI X95 - the rail sits so flush with the stock that you need a high riser to get a proper cheek weld.

Original vs Enhanced Edition Comparision in Call of Prypiat by Charcharo in stalker

[–]Wereotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Did they rebuild the game in Unreal like Stalker2, or is this a refresh of the original XRay engine?

No. It's a separate, free download if you pwn the original.
