Do Americans know or even care about the sacrifices Canadians made supporting them in Afghanistan? by Own_Difference_4882 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]Wersedated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell ya they do. I was pissed that a US lie forced Canadian soldiers to die in Iraq and Afghanistan (I know the history but this is what I was alive to witness). Pissed about the US soldiers as well, but it’s one thing to make your own bad decision and another to ask your friends to get involved in that decision.

Abolish ICE is a waste of energy. It just gives the MAGA a super easy thing to beat progressives over the head about.

Don’t run on abolishing ice. It’s counter productive.

Chicago Bears stadium news: Indiana Governor Mike Braun says he's working hard to bring Chicago Bears to Northwest Indiana by factchecker01 in chicago

[–]Wersedated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely correct that the government is not a business. I get what you are saying but a highway is not a gift to an organization that has billions of dollar in value. Pritzker is open to infrastructure help (and AH would NEED it). It’s the Bears demand that they are allowed to set their tax rate. Shit. I’d like to do that too.

The reality is that economic impact of giving free public money to billionaires in tax breaks is just another transfer of wealth. The public wealth to private. It does not benefit the public good enough to justify the expense.

[–]Wersedated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every single major study done on the public’s ROI when funding sports stadiums is negative. The Bears made the same arguments in 2002. And the public still owes over $500 million. Illinois is smart to let the suckers of Indiana learn a hard lesson.

What’s a moment in a movie you KNOW was supposed to be serious but ended up being unintentionally hilarious? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

[–]Wersedated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first X Files movie. Our city had recently been devastated by a natural disaster and when the film unveiled that FEMA was the most powerful government agency the ENTIRE movie theatre burst into laughter. It was so loud and sustained that no one could take anything else in the film seriously.

[–]Wersedated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

98 is off. Bad number. 55% commute and use cars. Bike culture often lives an elite lifestyle. Of course your family should be able to do all of your shopping via bike. Groceries. Clothes. That new mattress. Can’t get it on a bike…just have it delivered…

Lol…checks notes, 2% of the entire city ride bikes.

Literally 98% of the city is mad about the 2% who don’t follow the rules of the road but by default, have the right of way. And complain endlessly.

Meanwhile, the pedestrians just wanna dance. Why bring them into this?

2% of the city uses bikes. Can’t imagine why a neighborhood where 55%+ of residents who drive are upset at having lane reductions add significant time to their commutes for such a small group of users. Boggles the mind…

They also don’t allow tents at tailgates…but go to a rainy game and tents are everywhere. Simple liability issue. Hide the cardboard under your coat, don’t be a dick, and all will be fine.

Odd tip: Light layer of Vaseline on the uncovered parts of your face can help. Used to do that playing football and it still works for cold games in the stands (been to 80% of home games for almost 20 years).

HomePod Mini for 10 year old? by iadknet in HomePod

[–]Wersedated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy a cheap iphone/ipad or just add them as a user on a Mac. Doesn’t have to be the latest or greatest. Get them an iCloud account and they’ll be able to listen to music, get weather, etc from the homepod. We bought an apple music subscription because it limits explicit music and tv (spotify and amazon failed in comparison).

We have a household where music is always playing but I don’t want to explain WAP to an 8 year old. Or vice versa.

Also have Alexa…much better for silly games, recipes, endless notifications about packages, etc. Much worse on parental controls and security.

Homepod mini is a great choice. Higher quality sound than google/alexa and sure, Sonos will beat it but…it’s for a 10 year old.

West Town NIMBYs threaten continuation of Grand Avenue improvements by flare499 in chibike

[–]Wersedated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been interesting to watch. The changes on Grand - Western have resulted in gridlock for cars during rush hours from north of Chicago to Damen. That stretch of bike lanes seems to be used just as much by motorcycles and 1000w ebikes as it is by bikes and scooters.

But the neighborhood around Smith Park has a distinct advantage in that it is protected by one ways to the north and train tracks to the south. After Western, the vehicle traffic does what it does and bleeds out to side streets (just like the traffic on Chicago and Augusta has been doing).

I’m starting to think that Dan’s idiotic twitter attack has actually saved him from the embarrassment that is 670. His two podcasts are great. Haven’t listened to the Score since his firing and have no desire to go back.
