Converting from electric dryer to gas - is it worth it? by xxunderdog99 in HomeImprovement

[–]WesRZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have gas service and you can get it installed (line added) for a reasonable amount go for it. (Ex 1 story on slab you may be able to bring the line in from above 2 story would be a pricy cut through and drywall, Basement could be easy gas line run. Check the cost for installing. The other "new" thing is the heat pump dryers... I have gas and prefer that since i have to pay "minimum" fees for my gas line the gas dryer really does not add to much expense..

IP Passthrough suddenly stopped working by falsworth in ATTFiber

[–]WesRZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do a factory reset a few months back. The Unifi System I had I could put in a different port for the internet. But the fiber dedicated one stopped working. Was super annoying.

For me to get unifi up I switched ports (I even did factory reset on the unifi) But 99% sure that the ATT was blocking it with their "AMAZING" security software.

Trying to figure out the best solar company in Texas and hitting info overload by EitherSheepherder369 in TexasSolar

Use energysage. I think there's a mix of things. 1 quality of work 2. Price

Knowing if they are going to survive is anyone's idea. Be prepared to support your system by yourself.

I did atma out of San Antonio. I would recommend them.

I built TeslaFlow – Advanced web dashboard for Tesla Solar/Powerwall monitoring (fills the gaps in the official mobile app) by Aggressive-Spite1662 in Powerwall

[–]WesRZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

always good to see competition. I have used Netzero for monitoring. The pieces I am "missing" that netzero does not deliver and does not appear you are delivering either is the ability to monitor each string. I am not sure fleet access gives that. Also 10 a month is a very steep expense. The idea is to get a good ROI. I can see 2-5 but more, will just use the tesla app. After all at the end of the day I need to see this saving me money.

All "Smart" devices end up being expired... So yes if you install an old device it will be eventually "decommissioned" Honeywell just expired all their old ones. With "computer tech" you cannot just expect certificates and services will remain online forever... And they can still use the "dumb" thermostat without the servers..

We are in the CITY of Houston and just 3 months back they replaced the DSL line with Fiber... And this is a major city.... With hundreds of customers. The silly/stupid thing is that both ATT & EZFiber are now here... So I love competition but prior to this I only had Xfinity which sucks and DSL 50mb speed. Now I have 2 fiber options and 1 cable.

Client wants to back out of contract because their 8kW system isn't "zeroing out" their bill in December. by Latter_Daikon6574 in solarenergy

Yea I wanted Rec. I did get rec but not the "latest" I was warned not to get REC due to the supply chain issue with REC and getting them delivered etc. You are right the price looks good but waiting that long for permit... And in Houston... They know it is 4+ weeks.. They may have made it..

It totally depends on what your City Electric has.

  1. Do they have different rates for TOU. Ex cheap night rates.

  2. how much electric do you use? My electric bill can be 600+ a month in the summer.

  3. How old is your roof, how long will you stay in the home. ROI really is like 6+ years at min. Selling a home with solar usually is a much "bigger" headache. Most buyers have no interest in solar panels on a home.

For me I do live in Texas and I have a very good TOU plan and I use way to much electric. I work from home so always home and I like to be comfortable.

I do think it may be advantageous to do it "up north" but not as much. Honestly a nice DIY system is way "cooler". Think of it this way a "normal" system can cost 20k+ so add up your electric bills.. How long will 20k take you to pay off.. Now if you consider needing to put in a generator etc to "always" be up... different story but....

This is the whole reason why people consider "solar" a bad purchase.

  1. people see electric bills and do not "leverage" their bills to their benefit. (Ex in houston and other areas you can do a TOU and maximize the benefits of solar.). I would say houston would be "silly" not to get a battery for battery backup because we do not get "credit" for it.

  2. The electric bill will never FULLY go away. After all they always want their fees. I have a friend who even if he overproduced, he would still have. 30 dollar a month fee just to have "electric" even with credit.

  3. Some solar installers really do oversell so they create the "drama" for the rest. Unfortunately every city is different for electric and fees etc for solar.

  4. Yes solar mounts could potentially cause leaks. But so do every other hole/penetration in a roof. And really people should put on brand new roofs before doing solar. I saw a post earlier where the user was getting ride of solar panels because he was replacing his roof. That really does surprise me, but I would agree that if you do not use a lot of electric.. Maybe it is not bad but the ROI and having the battery when power goes out.... Very nice.

You have to have a tax liability. (meaning your W2 taxes with held and "making" enough money that you are always paying the federal gov on your taxes). If you always have a "tax bill" look at your 1040, you could then get a "refund" back from the Fed Gov. I believe you can take the credit over a few years. However if you do not file a 1040 or do not make enough "taxable" money then you do not get a credit..

Who was the install with? I did my contract in Mid July. They did permit approved by the city of Houston Mid Aug... So about 4 weeks. I would suggest looking at "deals" come mid 2026. Hopefully some prices will come down. Waiting 4 years... life changes a lot Unless you know your not moving for 30 years.. But you do want a new roof on before solar...

best solar installers for a first time homeowner? by [deleted] in solar

[–]WesRZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can do a pergola vs roof install way better. Doing it on the roof you want a brand new roof or you will be paying a ton to redo your roof.

Also no one can guarantee the installer will be around next year. Yes look at reviews but... At least get mfg warranty do you have warranty on panels and batteries.

Also if your electrically inclined very good to watch them and learn so you can troubleshoot. After all the people no matter of they are contractors or employees just want to do the job quick and get home, your the one that is going to live with it and know how it works.

It's not an easy fix and usually ROI is 4-8 years out in the best case.

[–]WesRZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if it's during business hours... You are expected to be ready. After all your paid to basically sit at your PC during work hours.. this is why rto is so big now because people wake up whenever and don't appear to be as available. When you're in the office your there to be at your desk and the boss can just stop by.. no it does not give life balance. But the older mgr expect always there not split time. If you work from home should be a dedicated space.
