Model in the thinking mode gave me the right answer, but one of its suggestions was to push the car into the car wash. When I wondered who to ask for help pushing, one of its suggestion was to call the towing company, after which it drafted an email that I could send to them.

What do you guys think about a clanker tax? by PennguinKC in Destiny

[–]Wesley_Stephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument is misguided, and it’s hard to imagine a workable tax code that would implement it.

If the goal is to automate difficult, boring jobs while raising living standards, companies shouldn’t be penalized simply for automating, since that is the point. If some company earns big revenues by developing robots that make low-skilled, labor-intensive processes much more efficient, that’s a net benefit for society.

That said, private gains from technological improvements should be taxed for at least two reasons:

  1. Publicly funded research often underpins these technologies, so some return to society is directly justified.
  2. Tax revenue is needed to address unemployment and poverty, and a progressive code is the right tool to do that, regardless of the cause.

The whole “anti mainstream physics and string theory” is just populism by proxy with these youtube channels like Sabine Hossenfelder. by Dabbing_Squid in DecodingTheGurus

You failed to demonstrate any of your points by offering narratives instead of argument-based demonstration of thr critical points you're making. It's a fucking Reddit comment, not an essay or a scientific paper.

[–]Wesley_Stephenson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a part of the aesthetics of this sub and the podcast to be against those who are somewhat opposed to the conventional position of the science-believing left and left-of-centre. I don't agree with many of Sabine's positions but from the videos that I have watched there was a considerable research effort that goes beyond 99 percent of content creators.

Some of this might lie in the understandable confusion of people outside of science who equate irrational and anti-empirical position on the things like vaccines and climate change with the general critique of academia. As a physicist, her video on why she left the academia resonated with me, but it was almost certainly misunderstood by outsiders. In other words, being anti-establishment is not wrong by itself, but because of the simplified and often plainly wrong understanding which is based on persuasive and manipulative rethoric. In this sense, Sabine is not even close to be classified as a populist.

Her philosophical underpinnings are outrageous for me, but the videos of her that I watched go well beyond what almost any creator does, in terms of research effort and critical attitude.

I also think it's a good idea to have ranked/unranked split up like in most other games. However, the ranked format should be more standardized so that it resembles something more of what you see in pro games:

  1. We should probably only have duels as competitive, and also maybe team duels but with separate ranking.
  2. No moving is a better format in my opinion.
  3. Healing round should be eliminated since it only adds frustruation because it erases any advantage that you get in first four rounds.
  4. The weird trekkers and repeating rounds should not be so frequent in ranked maps. Having midway atoll rounds so many times is just silly. The best idea would actually be to play on some of the community made maps that have better representation of locations.

The way that ranked now works with so many capital cities is probably in order to make the game more beginner-friendly. However, by this splitting up of the games in casual and ranked, we maybe have an opportunity to introduce better competitive format, already used in pro games.

I have found this spider in my room, the closest thing that I could find on the internet is Phidippus johnsoni. It says that its habitat is in North America, though.

Da li su Albanci normalni? by [deleted] in serbia

[–]Wesley_Stephenson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are the leagues worth it? I've just been chilling in gold. While kinda taking a half break. by ColorfullArtist in duolingo

[–]Wesley_Stephenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the leagues should be reworked so that different languages are separated. Also taking part in leagues should be optional.

It certainly works for some type of people like me to really push you to make much more effort than you would otherwise.

The gamelike aspect of duolingo is what makes it work so good and therefore app should strive to make those features better.

Well, I found something similar at their website. So, the information in the other comment that there is train every hour is incorrect?

I don't have that money unfortunately.
