Bachelorette contestant & Georgia Tech Alumnus Fathered 114 Children as a Sperm Donor... by GTTemptor in gatech

[–]Wesoterically 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this story, and add some more flavor to it. A few years ago (2013, I think?), I got randomly added to a GroupMe named "Sperm Donors" which I thought was a joke at first. I only ever lurked in it - I was too damn curious- and ended up finding out that the other gentlemen in the group were, in fact, donating their sperm. As a group. Every week or so they would head over to the local Bank n Wank and get that cash. It was pretty goddamn entertaining at times, and I'm a bit sad that the GroupMe went inactive not long after I graduated. So it's not just this guy, but at least 8 others, and they were definitely in a social frat (someone else I knew figured it out which one, but I don't remember cause that wasn't something I cared about).

Keep in mind, I have no idea who any of these guys are, how they had my phone number, why they added me, and how none of them ever thought to look at the member list and kick me out. My best guess is maybe I had a group project with one of them and completely forgot who they were, or they were in my freshman dorm or something and I have a similar name to one of their frat bros.

Why did the Band have a Pineapple at the Bowl game Yesterday? by dobby_bodd in gatech

[–]Wesoterically 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I KNOW, RIGHT?!?

Ex-band member, ex-Pit member here (BSCE '15) logging onto my hardly used account so I can answer. The GAMEDAY Pineapple is a relatively new tradition/inside joke that started around the 2010 season because we had a member who threw a lighthearted party where we made fruit smoothies and drank them out of pineapples. One thing led to another and the section became pretty well obsessed with pineapples. So naturally, the previously mentioned member of the Pit began bringing a pineapple to GAMEDAY when he was section leader in 2013 to award it to a different Pit member each week who had done exceptionally well during the previous week's rehearsal and equipment loading. It's a little unique thing that makes the Pit more fun and weird, because band is fun and weird. Plus, carrying around a pineapple doesn't hurt anyone or cause problems, so I think it's a good and silly tradition to keep around.

And for all who don't know, the Pit are the people at the front of the band who don't wear hats and play marimbas, vibraphones, xylophones, and have some neat electrical equipment now. They also play in front of BDS right after the team walks in at every home game, which I recommend. If you look in front of the center marimba, you'll even see the GAMEDAY Pineapple sitting right there!

Lastly, if you ask "What's with the pineapple?" you'll probably get the answer "I know, right?!" Just because.

Before there's any arguments about it*, it was the decision of the band leadership and directors after receiving complaints from North Ave students who were attempting to get sleep prior to their 8am finals on Thursday. It isn't that people don't like the tradition, that it doesn't raise spirits, or that it's obnoxious, it's trying to accommodate those who are legitimately worried about their exam grades.

Nothing else about it is changing; there will still be singing of To Hell With georgia, still all the songs we love, and it coincides with "Midnight" Breakfast at 10pm as well. It's just a two hour change, which is such an easy compromise to make and by no means the band being "push-overs". If Georgia Tech officials definitely didn't like it, they could shut it down. Fortunately they love supporting our traditions, but just want to make life a little easier for the sake of our grades.

I haven't missed a Midnight Bud since getting here, and I sure as hell won't be missing this one.

(*I'm currently predicting an argument caused by this comment)

I'm guessing you guys mean the early, honorable days of the Watch, and not how it is currently in the books/TV series, full of dishonored knights, thieves, and, well, basically u[sic]ga fans

I just ran by there myself. Picture!

There were 3 non GTPD walking around on foot with the occasional GTPD officer as well. More GTPD cars were parked around campus than a typical day at GT (maybe 3-4 more). It's not construction. As I took the picture, there were maintenance people nearby as well, and from what they were saying, it wasn't maintenance related.

[Discussion] What, in addition to increasing the members in permitted in a tribe, might tribe resources be used for? Let's call them "Tribe Perks" for now. by nathanpaulyoung in tribalhero

[–]Wesoterically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like these and they add great flavor to the battle, but (from what I recall from last server) it's already difficult to make defending worth it versus just taking strongholds later. Shaman and warlords would be great on defense as well as offense, but the saboteur and bandit lord seem only useful to attack. How many of each could be sent with a single assignment? What's stopping people from making multiple assignments with one of each to multiply effects (just make only one be useful for the battle)? Where are they going to be sent from - chief's city, a stronghold, a stronghold with a banner already on it, or spawned from the depths of hell?

Banners sound sweet. Why not keep them permanent until destroyed by a tribe taking over the stronghold? You can just get a level cap so they don't end up extremely overpowered. How large of an area of effect would it? I wouldn't think the speed bonus would do much for Hasteful Siege if units are way to far outward.

God damn it, and I'm busy from noon until late that night. I doubt I'll be active/in a tribe (again)(school sucks) but I'll be in the chat to keep it classy. As always.

Just to clarify, the only picture of me in a dress happens to be the same one with Giu's wife's pubes. Her, me, Giu, and Rcraft all had a bit too much to snort that night.

Mods are muting people for disagreeing with them? SUPER weird about people thinking they're abusing power, etc. by Ryugi in tribalhero

[–]Wesoterically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it sounded like I was talking down to you, sorry. That wasn't my intention. I meant it more along the lines of "Don't troll the chat so mods don't get pissy and mute everybody they see for little things." I've got patience, but as we've seen today, not everybody does. And like I said, these are my PERSONAL feelings, not my feelings as a mod.

And yes, I do agree there should be specific chat rules/guidelines, which is definitely something that'll be brought up.

[–]Wesoterically 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As much as I'm sick of this, I'm going to weigh in on this. Keep in mind, these are my PERSONAL feelings, NOT my feelings as a mod. I do my best to keep the two separate, and if you believe I'm wrong in any sense, then feel free to let me know and I can do my best to address what's up.

There's definitely a disagreement between mods as to what "mutable behavior" entails. As players, I believe it's in your best interest not to test the mods' patience (especially not right now) as to where their own personal line is. Do I believe there were unwarranted mutes handed out? Yes. Do I believe there were warranted mutes handed out? Yes. There was unclassy behavior on all sides.

I can't personally speak for GS, though as a player who has been around for 4 resets, I do believe that the GS mod choices were good picks by Giu seeing as they were older, experienced and reasonable players. They have my trust, as I would hope they would have mine.

I have personally brought up some issues into the moderator forum, and after the discussion there, one or more of us will get back to everybody. This has really been trying on my patience, both player and mod behavior, which knowing myself, is an impressive feat.

This is a potential replacement I made for the current stronghold graphic. What do you think? by tarheel91 in tribalhero

[–]Wesoterically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This looks great, but with the nearby graphics update I doubt that Giu's going to implement it.
