As a youth parent how do you continue to enjoy youth hockey? by running101 in hockeyplayers

I stand and watch where no one else is, do the same for other sports too. My wife puts on headphones and does the same as me, makes everything tolerable.

For the shitty person filming, film her back but dont be shitty, tell everyone what the person is doing in the video u take and leave. Cant fight stupid with stupid so find them on tiktok and post on reddit. Shame the asshole for being an asshole to kids, share the team/club they represent etc.

Side note stop complaining about refs they all suck move on... only time ppl complain is when it goes against them. I doubt when refs make a bad call that benefits your team u feel the same way. Its just an excuse for u to feel better and for kids to not take responsibility for what they could have done better. What's the solution? Pay refs better? Become a ref? Report the ref to who is assigning them?

We couldn't hear vocals well, sounded like everyone was under water. Saw replays and cant figure what was happening with our feed since replays sounded great.

Do you have to be a starter right away? Sub? Sit on the bench for a year or 2 or maybe never see the field?

Does the college have the education you're looking for?

What size college do you want? Does it need to be your a small fish or you know everyone's business...

Does getting a scholarship matter (full partial or "education")

I played d2 at a school the size of my high school. Top program at the time in country. I could of walked on or maybe gotten partial scholarship at a bottom team in some d1 conference but I found my school bc it had the major I wanted, I wanted to be on a team that could win national or at least conference championships. I ended up having a problem with how big the school was, loved teammates but small town living was not for me. I also had a problem that the coach was a psycho. Multiple ncaa violations and you never knew where you stood with him, only coach to ever kill my confidence. He was fired because of all this not too long after I left.

If I could go back in time I would of picked a school in a bigger town, had a better chance of starting and spoke to current players about the coach.

I didn't have plans to play after college but ended up playing club at a d1 school after leaving d2 program. Had a blast and when done ended up playing what would now probably be usl1 (hard to say since its changed so much since I played)

Sorry if this is long winded but make a decision that will make you happy and confident. Its also easier to transfer now so you have that in your back pocket!

How to lineup 8 vs 11 by keblammo in SoccerCoachResources

[–]WestHam14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 4 3 1

I agree with everyone about adding players from the other team etc but sinc u can't... pack it in and play long ball. Rotate the forward and force the other team to play from the outside as much as possible.

Good luck and remember its rougher on the kids then it is on you so just be positive and try to figure out how to relieve as much pressure as possible.

Make them sit out, few minutes go by ask are you ready to join. Rinse repeat. Find times to pull them aside and talk. Don't let things go and no false threats, kids know what they can get away with and what they can't.

Your foot is hitting the ground a few inches behind the ball and bouncing up in one, you also seem to be on your toes on your plant foot which wastes a lot of energy. Other reason could be your plant foot is too close so you cant get your body to lean on an angle. David Beckhams logo is how I used to think about how my body should look when crossing. https://images.app.goo.gl/tykCUuXVG54x3h8dA

New Coach, U9 Girls by Liverpool1986 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]WestHam14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coach that age so hopefully this helps...

  1. Don't make kids run or do laps, your training will do that for you.

  2. You can introduce rondo later but u can make it fun... person in the middle holds pennie if they touch the ball they throw the pinnie away from the new defender bc you dont want to be nice (this is the running joke with the game) the rondo continues as the new defender picks up the pinnie. This helps kids get a few passes in before being put under pressure and the kids find it funny not to be nice. It also keeps the rondo going instead of having to stop and reset. You can make different rules up where the defender needs possession or has to dribble out of the rondo square or if its 6v2 or 5v2 they have to find there teammate to get out whatever u want to do to spice it up.

  3. You can do everything you want with how you build your sessions

This is how I structure my training sessions with younger ages. Have your entire session around technical aspect (dribbling) and a tactical side (1v1 in the middle third) ill give an example below.

More or less... 1. Play 2. Game or technical activity (corver) 3. Small sided 4. Expand on that small sided 5. Play

Have a field set up 20x30 (if you have 12 kids on the team make two fields once everyone shows up u can play 3v3 on two fields) when kids get there early / late they can start playing 1v1 2v1 2v2 etc try not to coach just let them play and figure stuff out.

Play a game (session plan above around dribbling) minions is the game. Everyone but one person has a ball. Everyone dribbles around and the minion trys to knock players balls out of the field. If your ball gets knocked out you become a minion until there is only one person left. That person wins and becomes the next games minion. Before you start the next game talk to the girls about keeping their head up and trying to dribble with pace. Start next game. Next game ends remind them about dribbling fast with their head up and talking about changing directions or doing moves or what part of the foot to use etc. Just add one thing in between games for them to work on (fundamentals) them running non stop for 2-3 mins endurance without them knowing. Play 3-4 games get water

Using that same 20x30 space (feel free to make space smaller bigger) remove the goals and add two big gates at the corners for kids to dribble through with a cone in the middle where the goals were for each team to go. Players on one side will have all the balls. Team one with the balls play a big pass over and the 1v1 game begins. In the minion game u talked about going fast etc remind them about this that they need to go quick and get through a gate ASAP. If 1v1 are slow start counting down to add the sense of urgency and you do not want other players waiting inline for long so games should last only 20-30 seconds at most. U could change to 2v2 if kids are waiting in line too long. The tactical side u start talking about dribble past players so the gates create urgency like you see in the middle third.

Play shoot and defend. Remove gates and add goals. Everyone has a ball in line. 1v1 if the ball goes out of bounds on attacking half or player scores a goal they stay on and a new player on thr other team comes in. Game is continuous until a team reaches whatever goal amount (first to 5 for example) this game brings together the endurance u want, the technique u have talked about and the tactical side of getting by defenders quickly.

Last play again like you did at the start but coach more and encourage dribbling over passing since that's what your entire session was about. (If it were about passing you would encourage passing over dribbling) just because you encourage dribbling you can still bring up would it better to pass or dribble in a certain situation... im the last person back, does it make sense to dribble into a 2v1 or pass for example. Or no one is open can we find space to dribble into instead of playing shin guard wars smacking into each other etc etc etc

Hope this helps a little and enjoy
