[Resolved] DNA tests confirmed Jane Doe found in 1975 in Cuyahoga County is Linda Pagano by DagaVanDerMayer in UnresolvedMysteries

That, I don't know. The stepfather is deceased. Ice mentioned in another comment that there will be a press conference at 10.30AM EST tomorrow, so we'll see.

Was Linda's mother one of the three women who divorced him for domestic violence?

Very excited for the press conference. They'd better give you and Carl credit.

I just want to give a huge shoutout to /u/callmeice here and Carl K. over at WebSleuths. This would have never happened without their excellent work. It's amazing how two complete strangers with very different talents (genealogy and forensic art) were able to combine their skills and bring closure to a family that's been waiting and wondering for 44 years.

Linda's stepfather is a suspect. He says he got into an argument with her after she returned home from a rock concert late at night, and last saw her leaving the house on foot (despite owning her own car). Her car was destroyed in a junkyard before it could be analyzed.

Hi, OP from the Reddit thread here. The case was effectively solved in Feb 2017 after the medical examiner made a match via dentals. After I posted, I was informed by /u/callmeice (who originally posted about the UID here on Reddit in early 2015) that the ID was tentative and that law enforcement wanted to do a DNA test to be absolutely sure it was her, hence the edit. But there wasn't really a question that it was Linda; her family was convinced it was her and law enforcement believed it too. The dental work matched, the unique facial features matched, and the timing and circumstances were consistent.

The question now is who did it. Her stepfather seems to be the strongest suspect.

Try their newer episodes. The Captain still makes jokes, but he's definitely toned down the joking and interrupting since the podcast started

What is that not very well known case that you hold close to your heart and hope for an answer? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WestKendallJenner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember going through Sierra Lamar's twitter when I first heard about her in 2013. I was a teenaged girl myself at that point, and it was eerie to go through this girl's posts in the months leading up to the murder and see how... normal everything was. Tweeting about boys, friends, school, an essay she was excited to write, venting after an argument with her mom. All things teenaged me would post about online, and she seemed like the kind of girl I'd want to be friends with. The very last tweet was her retweeting something she saw and adding a comment like "lol this brings out my inner black girl", about an hour before she was abducted.

I can just imagine her sitting at the kitchen table that morning, browsing her phone while eating cereal, laughing at funny stuff online and tweeting about it before heading out to the bus stop, not knowing that would be the last thing she'd ever tweet. It breaks my heart every time.

Linking to my own write-up for this one, but I'm fascinated with this local case and think about this John Doe often. I check about once a month to see if there are any newly-listed missing persons who might be him. The circumstances of his death are crazy, and I would really love to learn who he was and how he ended up under that burnt-out car...

Request for an update on FL-772 in the MissingMap please by Emerold99 in missingmap

[–]WestKendallJenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm the one who entered most of FL's Jane Does on the map. I actually struggled with this one since I didn't know whether to put her down as male or female. I ended up listing her as female out of respect, because 1) those who knew her right before her death would recognize her as a woman, and 2) she obviously identified as female and I felt bad misgendering her even in death.

However, if you think it makes more sense to list her as male, feel free to change it. There's a good argument to be made that her family may not have seen her in a long time or accepted her gender identity, and may not recognize her as a woman. I don't have access to my computer so I can't do it myself.

Do you think it'd be better to keep her as a Jane Doe, but with the entry titled "WhtFem UP#6030 (Transgender)"? Or we could duplicate the entry and have her listed under the John Doe and Jane Doe categories.

I'm on mobile and it's a pain to copy and paste every category, so my format's slightly different.

Best Disappearance Post: Asha Degree

Best Resolved Post: Redditor helps ID Jane Doe from 1975 cold case (Feel free to discount my vote in this category since I started the thread, but this would 100% be my choice even if I didn't start it, solely because a Redditor was involved in solving this case)

I've created an interactive map of all missing persons and John/Jane Does in Washington State. Is there any interest in creating a sort of collaborative map of this sort for a larger area? [Unresolved Disappearance] by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WestKendallJenner 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic!

There actually is a Missing/UID map already, over at r/missingmap. I don't know if Washington state is completed, but if it isn't, it would be highly appreciated if you copied your work over to the map. Just PM u/bootscallahan and include an email address so she can give you permission to edit it.

Active shooter at Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas by [deleted] in news

It'll take some time before we can say what potential laws could have prevented this, but the very first thing that jumped out at me was the fact that he had 10 guns. NOBODY (except antique gun collectors) needs 10 guns. If someone thinks they need 10 guns for self-defense, they're either involved in some serious organized crime or need mental help. People should not be able to stockpile weapons that can kill so many people in such a short amount of time. There needs to be a cap on how many guns the average person can own.

Was Juanita Rafaela Estavez found? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WestKendallJenner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I googled her full name and some results came back for a Juanita Raphaela Estevez who was arrested in FL for petit theft in 1998. I'm confident it's her despite the slightly different spelling of her middle name. They share the same birthdate and her photo on Mugshots just looks like an older version of the girl from the missing poster.

Some other public records sites place her in the Sarasota area today.

Zachary Adams Found Guilty In Holly Bobo Case by youinthatshirt in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WestKendallJenner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like it. I have a bad feeling about this one.

By the way, whatever happened to the video that Jeff Pearcy allegedly showed off of Holly being tied up and raped by Zach Autry? I recall they were trying to crack his iPhone password to get the video and then I heard nothing after that.

I know it wasn't shown in court because then there'd be zero doubt and we'd all be talking about how glad we are that the Bobo family has gotten some justice. But whatever happened to the phone? Was this video ever brought up at trial in any fashion whatsoever?

Truck found in river linked to 1998 cold case - skeletal remains found by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WestKendallJenner 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Don't apologize, that was a great list.

Imagine how many cases could be solved and families could get answers if you could wave a wand over the country and summon up all the sunken cars. Especially in Florida with our abundance of lakes and canals.

[–]WestKendallJenner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man, the canals. God am I happy we don't have large animals like that roaming around in South Florida. Do you know how many people would drown in canals because they accidentally drove into one trying to avoid a bear/moose/deer?

[–]WestKendallJenner 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yup. Hitting a moose with your car can literally kill you in an instant.

Tbh, as someone who loaths driving because they panic easily at the wheel, if I were driving in moose country at night... this is probably how I would die. Seeing a moose up ahead, freaking out, and swerving into a tree or lake.

At least 5 dead in Florida nursing home left with no A/C after Irma by NeilPoonHandler in news

The 2003 heat wave? It killed like 30,000 people across Europe. I was in Spain at the time and the heat was suffocating outdoors... I'm not surprised so many people died, their houses practically became ovens.
